I would stay away from the Electrolux. Although it is extremely quiet, it does not clean well at all. We experimented with different settings, pre-rinsed dishes and made sure our water temp was set correctly and it still left numerous dirty dishes. I also did not care for the silverware caddy, as my "normal" size silverware did not fit in a lot of the slots in the caddy. The final straw was when our dishes would get mold on them after sitting dirty in the dishwasher for 24-48 hours. Electrolux told me to use the rinse function daily in between full wash cycles - seemed like a waste to me.

I ended up doing a ton of research and was going to go with a Bosch, but then read a lot about some problems with smell. We went with the Kenmore Pro dishwasher and absolutely love it. The Kenmore Pro line in general does not get very good ratings EXCEPT for the dishwasher which is highly rated.

i think to get the quietest you have to go with the European type of cleaning which takes time and uses no drying heat, just hot water. Bosch and Miele are like that.

f.y.i. Blomberg - Arcelik is another European line similar to the Bosch, and visibly well insulated for sound with three layers of insulation on the outside.

Fagor and Sunbeam are the same internally. For the other US type dishwashers (that seem to all have heaters) I don't know who makes who but you can find out from applianceadvisor.com. This spring IKEA has a new Renlig with concealed controls and it's panel-ready too. Made by Whirlpool, can either work with or without the heater, but no info on noise.

I can't speak to the topic in general, but yesterday I stopped at the primary local appliance store (family owned)
and learned they have stopped carrying all Bosch products.

They did not stop due to problems, although they had definitely increased, but, I was told, many companies might go through a period with issues, they work with that if the company is efficient in responding to the problems and takes steps to correct them.
They dropped Bosch because Bosch stopped dealing well with any of the issues....parts, orders, replacements, warranties, nothing was being handled in an even faintly timely and efficient manner.

That said, I haven't researched this beyond their comments, but they were long time Bosch dealers here, dealers that loved the product.

Miele has a couple of options in the 1200 dollar and under catagory.

Bosch products are fine, their mgmt. is struggling lately (especially in service) because I think they are overwhelmed with the sheer size of the Bosch / Thermador / Gaggenau operations in the USA. They can't quite seem to figure out their brand identity either. Just another reason that like for like Miele will always cost a few buck more. Quality does come at a price - it's not just profit.

The interesting thing is that Kenmore Pro appliances are made by Electrolux. What model of Electrolux were you dissatisfied with?

I have a Bosch DW - some sort of 500 series that is now 4 years old. It is brilliant. I like it very much. It cleans spotlessly despite that it has to clean things that have been put into it 3-4 days prior, it dries excellently; the only "smell" I've ever had out of it was when we had a blocked discharge line that produced the DW smell and then - most noticeably - backed into the kitchen sink (upon clearing that blockage, no more DW smell either); it is quiet, water consumption low, looks good, has been very reliable and truly handles *everything*.

So, my experience has been manifestly excellent. But I've always wondered about the complaints I've read here - some misplaced but surely not all! So I've been gravitating to just about the same conclusion that Antss espoused here that while they make good stuff (my DW experience couldn't have been *such* a fluke! I'm never that lucky), the high noise/complaint level does indicate that they can't quite take care of their clientele, selling through every tom-dick-and-harry (HD, Lowes, Best Buy etc) generates volumes of sales but before going down that route, it is imperative that the process for generating that volume of sales AND the after-market support must also be present. The squawk sheet to me would indicate that perhaps it isn't locked down quite so well.

Antss has inside or at least more direct knowledge; my observations are anecdotal. Still, I believe his assessment because my speculations were leading me entirely that way.

I continue to be delightedly happy with my DW. It truly handles everything - and usually 3-4 day old eveything, to boot. However, I'm getting increasingly anxious should the day arrive when it needs some tending to. Parts do fail - it happens. But you want the company to be responsive & provide the support for when that does happen. I'm going to cross my fingers, but the security that at least thus far you can expect from Miele is manifestly more reassuring than having to rely upon crossed fingers & toes!

Thanks for everyone's comments. We too are looking at the Bosch (SHE55M05) and the Electrolux (EIDW6105) and are in a quandary. I have read mainly good reports on the Bosch brand of dishwashers and expected to find equally positive comments about Electrolux. However, I keep seeing posting claiming that the Electrolux does not clean the dishes (if it does not do that...what's the point). Does anyone have a thought for why the Electrolux does not clean as well as the Bosch?

Just curious - why would anyone choose the Electrolux? They are new to the USA. This is their first DW. They have a questionable reliability and performance record (already) AND their unit is not any cheaper that the two best brands on the market- bosch and miele. They both have well established networks and a proven track record.

Oh, and please don't tell me that Electrolux is an old co. that's been making DW's for centuries. The co. in Scandinavia is only the parent. They DW you get at Lowes or Best Buys has nothing to do with an Electrolux you'd buy in Sweden or Germany.

I have had absolutely no problems with it...so quiet, cleans great and looks good too.I have never found as much as a waterspot on anything, well water sometimes remains on plastic items but it does with all DW's. They don't clean??? Not a problem here. Have noticed no increase in water usage.
We had been looking at the Bosch also but choose the Electrolux as the interior space was so much better. good thing as the installers said that if we had picked the Bosch we would have had problems with draining as our drain was too high for the Bosch pump to handle...hey, that is what he said. I don't understand the above complaint about the silverware caddy on the Electrolux...everything and more fits in there.
We love the Electrolux and if we ever need service it will be handled by the same guy that services our Wolf range and Subzero refrigerator....no problems.

Stay away from the F&P drawers. THey are terrible. We chose them to replace a dishwasher in a previous kitchen with a space issues. I have not met one person who has them who likes them. You have to load the thing perfectly or things don't get clean - that pretty much meant I was the only person who could ever load the DW - not good! I never found a great way to load things that felt efficient either.

Have an ASKO in my rental while our remodel is being finished and have really enjoyed the traditional loading - and everyone - even my dishwasher challenged dh can load it and things get clean.

We did decide on the Miele for the new kitchen. I wanted a fully integrated model and really love the utensil tray as well- we got the most basic model that had both those features. Not sure the model because DH noticed right before we scheduled delivery that the DW had been discontinued and asked for the new model instead - I guess the space is a bit bigger and it now comes with a crystal setting that I really didn't care about.

gldnfan - if you want to take advantage of the china/crystal setting on the miele you should hook it up to cold water.

Here's one person who loves her Fisher & Paykel dish drawers! They're among the favorite features of my new kitchen. There is a learning curve to figuring out the best way to load the dishes but looking at the pictures in the manual a few times helped. They clean and dry my dishes beautifully, even the really baked on food, much better than the Bosch I used to have. It's so nice to have that second drawer to put dirty dishes in if the other hasn't been unloaded yet. And I really like the smaller loads and not having to wait for a big dishwasher to fill up before running it ... especially in the summer my dishes used to get stinky.

The filter is sooo much easier to access, clean and replace than my old Bosch. The touchpad controls are simple and straightforward, much nicer than the buttons on my Bosch (one of which broke during the first year). I even like the musical tones that sound every time I open the dishwasher.

F&P DishDrawers are *not* "terrible" by any means. They're frugal with electricity and can work with a cold water connection. My DD603 is 5.5 years old, no repairs or trouble with it. It cleans very well when a proper enzyme detergent is used, loading is not overstuffed, and a proper cycle is used. Loading can be tricky for certain kinds of items. The new Tall model with foldable rack tines and height-adjustable side shelves should help with that.

I love my FP dishdrawers! Actually, there are many, many people here who love their DD's. I like that the cycle is shorter than my mom's bosch, but have to admit that her bosch is quieter than my two bottom drawers, but about the same as my two upper drawers.

About the same time my mom got her Bosch last year, my aunt got an LG that she chose because she wanted the quietest DW available in her budget. And it's near silent, even standing right next to it! However, it's regular cycle is almost 2hrs long...something that she finds anoying at holidays when there's more than one load that needs to be done.
