Kaseki - my post did get truncated it was complete when I submitted it on Gardenweb. To briefly finish the story, the entire problem was the heater pressure switch - it caused the F14 error as well as a significant leak. I also replaced the heater relay (indicated by the F24 code) but I took the 'bad' one apart and it appears fine, so I think the second code was also somehow caused by the wet heater pressure switch. The black diaphragm inside the heater pressure switch was clearly deteriorated with little granules of rubber coming off. Too bad Miele doesn't make just the diaphragm a serviceable part - or better yet use a better elastomer. The other piece of info that got cut off - the service guy who came out and told me I needed a new pump that would cost $1100 - when I checked with Miele their price on the pump was $550! I posted here because i did a lot of searching and never saw anyone documenting significant leaks due to a failed heater pressure switch and the service guy acted like leak == failed pump, so trying to give back to all the helpful stuff I've looked up over the years. Also, for the record, we still like our Miele dishwasher. Its built like a tank and actually quite serviceable. We're building a new house and we will probably buy another Miele dishwasher.

My parents have a G2142 and I have on older G2170 so not a direct comparison, but here's my insight on Miele dishwashers in Canada. Both of our dishwashers perform equally. Both are very quiet and do a good job of getting dishes clean. Detergent choice is key. Your detergent must be matched to your water quality, trial and error works best here. The racking system in a Miele takes a different mindset. Our dishwasher holds at least 50% more than our old GE. We see significant energy and water savings from that feature alone. My experience with Miele service in Canada has been consistently terrible. Our washer and dryer has been a 9-month nightmare. Our dishwasher has not needed service, and if it ever does, I will do everything possible to avoid Miele service. This includes throwing the dishwasher out and buying another one. If you ever do need service from Miele, be prepared for them to tell you nothing is wrong with your dishwasher. Miele seems to be quite proud of it's low warranty claim history. They achieve that low claim frequency by simply denying that there is anything wrong with the machine. When our brand new dryer put out it's first load of still wet laundry, after a 20 minute wait on hold Miele's non-english speaking call-center employee simply told us that their machines are "excellent" and that nothing was wrong. Consider Miele's warranty to be non-existent. I cannot stress enough how poor Miele's service has been for us. As for professional installation, unless you're a fairly advanced DIYer, I would seriously consider it. Our installations (both mine and my parents) required significant plumbing and electrical re-works.

theresse, I've just been told via eMail that no Miele dishwasher other than the LaPerla and Excella has the Sensor Wash! I cannot believe this! Practically every modern Miele dishwasher in Europe has at least one Sensor cycle - middle- to top-of-the-line models even two. Very strange decision on Miele's part to take them off on most of their US machines. Mindstorm, the dishwasher takes in ambient air via the fan located at the bottom of the unit. This air is channeled upwards and around the heat exchanger where it cools the condenser. In turn, the air absorbs heat - heat is exchanged. The warm air is vented through slits in between the control panel and the counter and thereby warming it. When the door opens, the counter is a) warmed, so condensation won't form and b) the fan continues to blow air through the slits and thereby forcing the humid air that's expelled from the tub away from the counter. Fauguy, every model with CleanAir drying has the two vents on the right side of the tub. The diamante has CleanAir drying, according to the web site. Agree with Stan Z's comments, if you have Miele's Concierge group do the install they will do a pre-install visit to measure things, cabinet clearances, power receptacles, water and drain access, etc. I personally have had mixed results with the Concierge installers, however they are supposed to be a cut above any appliance dealer's installers. That point seems to trump any negatives involved. I'll expand on the 'read the install manual carefully' comment, to point out there are multiple documents with install checklists and cut outs (cabinet dimensions) on Miele's US website for their dishwashers. In looking at mieleusa.com, I see that is still the case, there is the 'operating instructions' manual, which will have an install section, and there is an 'assembly plan' document.' If you go to the specification library (start at Architects & Designers), you will find a spec sheet, which may be a third document with dimensions. In my experience there may be a fine point in one manual that is not clearly pointed out in another manual (this is not only for DWs), for example placement limits or clearances on an electrical receptacle (is recessed wall clock needed?), a drain hose length, or back of the appliance clearances to a rear cabinet wall. If you will have a plumber or electrician do some or the rough in work, give them copies of the relevant sections in the manuals, these guys work from specifications and drawings.
