Dgdau's bday was celebrated Sunday..She wanted a Princess Barbie Cake. No Princess available, so I got Easter Barbie and I created a satin ribbon top for the gown. I used a pandoro pan and a small bowl to create the gown...had to do her hair, Easter barbie's looked like she was in a wind tunnel...so I pinned it up and wrapped it with pearls and a flower....after I took the pic, I added a thin sheer ribblon on the waist flowing down..

She loved it...Do you think it is easy to get a whole doll into a cake??

I know they have those half dolls, but they are not Barbie, and it had to be Barbie!!lol

And then the rest of the Easter goodies for the kids..

Barbie came out great, I know what you mean by "it had to be Barbie" alot of kids feel that way, they don't want the imitation. Everything else looks yummy too. I know you went to alot of work for it, but she is worth it.

And thank you for not tempting me, LOL. Seriously, you didn't this time. I'm not into that many sweets, and not a big chocolate fan either (unless it has nuts it, I do love the cake type brownies with nuts).

I remember one time in a parking lot I spied a bumper sticker on a woman's car, and it just cracked me up, and actually it probably holds a lot of truth!

Climbers may not come into their own until the third or fourth year, and their repeat bloom is normally much lighter than their spring flush. Was the rose you remember in the same geographical area? There are some climbers better adapted to zone 5 winters than Blaze.

Did you try using the same temperature light that Home Depot uses ? They probably use some type of fluorescent in the store, right ? I know many hate fluorescent lighting but if it gives you the proper color, who cares. I loved that color and was considering those cabinets. I had the MS catalog and loved every single kitchen in it and the sea salt counter. You are correct in thinking that the taupe paint/lighting(and floor color)might be affecting it also. The taupe might be pulling them down. Check the undertones in that paint. BM can tell you. All colors are affected by what they are next to. I struggled with this while trying to learn color correction of 4/C photos for printing(books). BM has a website called myperfectcolor where you can post photos(post the cabs, floor or anything that might affect them) and get guidance for paint colors. List the paint color that you currently have in your query. They really try their best to help, but posting photos will get you a faster more detailed answer. Do you know how I know this ? I put LED in UCL and just recently put fluorescent cove lighting (T5)above cabinets. I'm not using both lights at the same time so I don't care if they are different temps. Wow, my floors look so much more colorful with the fluorescents.Also the paint that was too dark looks bright and cheery(although still not a match for my floor so I'm repainting :( Here is a link that might be useful: myperfectcolor

Disappointing(!!) wisteria year so far.....

Wisteria bloom season is always something we look forward to. Wisterias are marginally hardy here so we always have our fingers crossed as bloom can range from great to poor. This year has been very poor indeed so far. The last week of May is their usual bloom time. Last year was a disappointing year for the Chinese one as we did a very hard prune in 2016 to reduce its height in order to make pruning it easier. The hard prune prompted an early explosion of foliage growth in 2017. The foliage obscured the flowers. I was hoping for better things this year but, so far, we've only seen three flower racemes - hidden in the foliage. I wasn't sure if the problem was just with the pruning we did in 2016 our wisteria 'trees' or whether it was due to the yo-yo temperatures we had for an extended period in January and February this year when temperatures fluctuated rapidly between well above freezing to well below freezing, with high wind-chills too. So this afternoon we drove by a nearby property that has a large, rampant wisteria on the fence. There are not too many wisterias visible around here so I use this one as a comparison to check the relative performance of ours. That one appears to be in the same state as ours so we assume the yo-yo temperatures in Jan.-Feb. must have killed most of the flower buds! Now I'm hoping for a decent summer re-bloom.... I feel your pain. Disengage from the process. Let your friend do what he wants. I can imagine you see all sorts of possibilities for creating a wonderful space despite the limitations of the kitchen. Your friend is looking for expediency and simplicity and most of all doing it his way. I watched this play out between my mother and my aunt once or twice, and then my mother disengaged and just nodded along with whatever my aunt said and everybody was happy- my aunt never managed to make a project look the way she had hoped, but she was not willing to spend the time, money and effort into getting the better result.

Such talent! And those grandbabies are definately worth the trouble we go to so that they can have what they ask for.
Wish I had a granddaughter to do stuff like this with. All I get to do is play ball,climb trees, and all that other boy stuff.

What a great Gramma you are Kathleen. That is a darling cake, and you did a wonderful job on her hair too! Just beautiful. Know you loved seeing her face light up! Cute bunnies and eggs too. Boy, that chocolate looks really dark in the picture. I do love chocolate, but I'm a milk chocolate gal. Luvs

What a pretty cake Kathleen. I have 2 GD so I know what you mean. Her hair looks very nice too,by the way. Sounds like a really special day. I'm sure noone will forget it.

How sweet, and what a pretty Barbie cake!

She's all dressed up, and will be a mite surprised when half her skirt is served to company.

But Barbie's resilient. She'll get over it. :)

Thanks, Lori! It has been downhill since then. 7 of us got the virus, and then I got an infection. The meds make me feel worse...so not much cooking going on here..

oh darn, Kathleen, that is sure awful to hear. I know how bad that virus knocks people down. It went thru a lot of my friends and family. I sure hope you recover soon, can't have our Kitchen Queen down for long. Even if I have to admit I love your food photos and can't wait to see more.

Yes, Kareen, Mar 21st was gdau's bday. She was do upset it was on Good Friday!! So we celebrated on Easter. And the party with her firends is Sat..at some place where they have rock climbing walls etc. I suggested a tea party..but she didn't go for that, LOL

Kathleen, I hate that I don't like to cook. I hate that I DO like to eat. And its great fun to tease you about tempting and torturing me with your food pix, tho it IS true that's what you do. LOL. But in all honesty, I envy your beautiful presentations, and your cooking skills, and I wish badly I lived next door to beg for lessons and leftovers!
So I hope my teasing has been ok. I really didn't mean for you to think I was serious about "hating your pics".

Hope you are about thru with that antibiotic, some of them are too strong I think. I have to be careful which ones my doc gives me.
