Bathroom- tiling floor and walkin shower..use same tile or not

I am building new and trying to figure out what to do with the tiling. We will have a 60 x 36 walkin corner shower. The vanity is espresso with a granite top, see image. Im trying to figure out what color to go with for my tiles and whether or not to go with the same throughout or change it up. We are going with the larger rectangular tile,12x24. What do you think? Feeling overwhelmed...:(

12x24 slate-look (charcoal gray) porcelain tile would look nice. Running Bond pattern.

I would use a much smaller-format version for the shower floor, though--more grout lines=less slippery.

Yes please post pictures. We are doing ours, white subway tile (running bond) on the shower/tub with a wains cotting of same all around the room. We will do a herringbone pattern through the middle of the three shower walls for accent. That is a lot of WHITE. The question becomes what to do for flooring? Tile is too cold for a bathroom IMHO, so we have eliminated that. Not to mention I do not understand the attachment to super hard surfaces in flooring, too dangerous, hard on feet and backs. We are eliminating the 1970's green & tub/toilet. I want to stay away from being stuck with a permanent color scheme!! Future color flexibility is a must in my mind to keep a room from getting dated.

Patricia Colwell Consulting, You are so right about everything. I do not have an installer yet--not easy to find in my area. No one is in a wheelchair but just looking to the future since this will be the last house we build. I was curious why some of the houzz photos were different. I guess I thought it was just an updated shower look. I saw some flat stone looking tile for the shower floor but I cannot find the photo now. Is something like something that would be good to use? Skippack mentioned that my old mosiac tiles were unglazed--how do I know if I have the right kind of tiles? There used to be a great tile person in the next town over but he has retired. I am still going to try to call him to see if he would recommend anyone. Thanks for your information. What is your thought of doing Porcelain tile throughout the entire house?

Then I really wouldn't do an inset. It's not for that application. You can use the herringbone or mini brick for a niche or two, or use it on the floor outside the tub. I personally think polished marble is easier to clean, and with a small pattern and all the grout, slipping is a non issue.

Support your local independent tile store! They usually carry a wide selection for all budgets. Look on Houzz and you will find plenty of photos of bathrooms using the same model tile for all surfaces, but in different sizes and finishes ... matte for floors and polished for walls.

Instead of matching your shower floor tile to your other tile maybe you should consider matching your shower floor to your granite. We used the same granite as our countertop for our shower base. It's an option that may be a little pricier but it has definite advantages. There are no grout lines, no mold or mildew, it is guaranteed (at least ours is) not to leak, it has a low threshold, and installation is faster. Ask your fabricator if he does stone shower pans/basins.

No we have the acrylic base for our shower, no tiles there. Just the wall in the shower.

What are the dimensions of your bathroom? If you have a fairly or small large bathroom, keep the scale in mind. You might want to use a straight lay on the floor in a medium tone color, then use the tile in a vertical running bond in the shower. You could add an accent band of small tiles in the colors of your granite running horizontally near the top (gray, cream and black would look nice or use espresso in there somewhere). Too much off-set (i.e., running bond) visually confuses or overwhelms the eye I think, especially in a small space.
