Comments (2)Try the vinegar again but this time put 2 Tablespoon of vinegar, one cup of warm water and 1 or 2 drops of dish soap in a small microwave safe bowl. Heat in the microwave on high for 3-4 minutes and let stand for 15 minutes. Then wipe the microwave out with a damp sponge....See MoreHow to remove burned smell in Microwave?
Comments (3)We have had good luck with USED coffee grounds. Just dump your used coffee grounds from your morning coffee pot into a bowl or dump them on a plate. Leave them in a closed microwave for several hours ... overnight is easy to do. Your odor seems particularly persistent; you may need to do this for several days in a row; each day replenishing with another batch of coffee grounds. Used coffee grounds in a bowl can be used to keep fridge odors at a minimum, too. We dump the old ones every couple of days and put in a new batch. Seems to work for us as well as a box of baking soda. Good luck....See MoreMicrowave & burnt popcorn--- :(
Comments (6)joe blowe and evaperconti, Thanks both of you for your suggestions. Joe I tried the water and it helped but didn't take it away. Then I tried baking powder in the hot water and let it "cook" for about 10 minutes. Again it helped. At least it doesn't smell all the time but when I cook anything I can still smell the odor. Evaperconti, I don't have any lemon but will try that tomorrow when I can get to a store. I know lemon helps with drains, hopefully it will work on this too. My microwave is only 8 months old. I'd hate to have to replace it because of this!!!!!...See MoreBurn macaroni in the microwave....terrible smell
Comments (13)Oh geez...I feel for you. A year ago, my elderly mom put one of those rice filled neck bags in the microwave to warm it up. She accidentally set the timer for 20 minutes instead of two! My then spouse went to mom's house (I was buying a new car that night) and threw the microwave oven out in the snow- it was scorched inside. The next day, I got to mom's house and I could smell the putrid aroma from the microwave oven as I walked up the driveway. My mom has COPD and really suffered through the night, as the smell was as bad as what you described- like burned popcorn x 200! I washed down the ceilings and walls in the kitchen, the cupboards, table, chairs, etc. Basically washed down everything in sight. Mom went to a hair appt., so I opened all the doors and got a fan going. I rubbed a cloth with "Resolve" rug cleaner on all of her furniture in the living room that was fabric. I washed all the walls in the house, etc. Fortunately, she closed the doors to the bedrooms, so they were spared. I switched out the furnace filter, as well. I ran to Sears and bought a cheapie microwave oven. By the time I got back to her place, the house smelled 75% better. I put the microwave in it's place. Two days later, the place was back to normal. Sigh. I have heard about boiling vinegar and water in the microwave, but mom's was so scorched and awful and smelly- with her breathing issues, I just wanted it out of there. Good luck!...See Morelizql
