Posting your query in the laundry forum might be helpful too, but here are a few ideas for you.

Wash your shirts in the hottest water the fabric will stand. No cold water washes -- no matter what the tag on the shirt says. Be sure to wash your white shirts only with other white and light-colored items -- sometimes dyes will transfer from dark laundry onto lighter items. Don't overload the washer -- a crammed load doesn't get very clean. Try hot water.

For white whites, I would use a detergent with bleach alternative (the additive is Oxyclean, not Clorox) or I would add some Oxyclean to the load with my regular detergent. Many people find that name brand detergent, like Tide, cleans better than lesser-priced detergents -- but your mileage may vary.

Don't use more than the recommended amount of detergent -- too much can lead to a build-up of detergent on clothes, leaving them a little dingy.

Finally, people with really hard water -- or who have iron in their water -- often find that their light-colored clothes get dingy or even rusty colored. There's not much besides getting a water softener to deal with this challenge.

What have you tried so far??

Are you just tossing them in the washer with soap and hoping for the best? Or are you pretreating stains? Using bleach? Using OXY products? What have you tried so far that is not working for you?

Then also, I ask, are you using fabric softner? That can coat fabrics over time and make them waxy and dingy.

What kind of water do you have? Well water can have iron or orther minerals in it that can make clothes look dingy over time.

Maybe adding another rinse to you load of wash will remove detergent residue? Have you tried that already?

What brand of detergent do you use? I have found that certain national brands DO work better than others.

Have you moved recently? Phosphate detergent is banned some areas. You may have become use to the optical brightners used in detergents, and are living in an area now where they cannot be sold.

Lastly, if you are looking for that clean, crisp, white shirt look you may have to start buying better shirts. Buy 100% cotton, not cot/poly blend.

Soak in a small tub of hot water and two scoops of Oxy clean to get them bright again.

Moving forward, be sure to wash in hot water, and always add Oxy Clean to your whites. This will keep them looking new and fresh.

I never heat dry my nice white blouses. Heat will set any stains. It's safer to let them air dry, and then throw in the dryer for 10 minutes to get the wrinkles out.
