Rust removal from carpet?

Does anyone know what to use to remove a rust stain on new carpet?

A two-drawer metal file cabinet was put on new berber(sp?)carpet. Somehow moisture must have gotten underneath, because when we moved the cabinet, there is a rectangle stain of rust. The bottom of the cabinet is rusty. This took place in a new rental house my daughter has. We don't know the details as to how this happened. The renters have moved. The cabinet had been sitting in that spot for about a year. We're going to the house this weekend to try to fix it. Never tried to remove rust before. Has anyone else?

a good super market should carry a 'rust out' solution (one brand markets specific cleaners for that, pen ink, etc. by numbers- I think rust is #7)

otherwise, a tailor or cobbler should have it (yes, we still have such places in my neck of the woods)

if it's a synthetic carpet (most rentals aren't going to spring for wool) you can try CLR (calcium, lime, rust remover) applied with an eye dropper...but that's a last resort.

If you use bleach on a porclin tub it will cause a rust stain. To remove the brown spots soak it with regular household peroxide. Try never to allow bleach products such as tilex, or other mold cleaners near the tub. Clr is ok as is clorox2 to clean your tub. Good luck!

We have rust from well water here so I use The Works. Cost is about a $1.00 at Dollar General more in the grocery store or Walmart. You might have to do two applications (just let it dry) then wipe it down with clear water. If you can still see some red then apply some bleach diluted with a little water (water helps it to not evaporate so quickly). Good luck on selling your house!! We should be listing ours shortly too! I had one that received shipping damage to the finish, bought it for fraction of original cost. At beauty supply, found nail polish that matched well and touched up the damaged finish. Not noticeable at all, installed in my house.

im not quite sure, tho they weren't scratched at all, their surface was ok. all the pins i have rust pretty frequently and there seems to be 2 main kinds of material depending on the pin so i cant say for sure (first pic is the one that dulled, evidently and the second is another one i tried it on, where the rust left but the spot remained. they appear to be different materials though)
