Your comments are easing the pain of this long drawn out reno we've been living in. I started the demo in Jan and have been working every day, night and weekend as I've done all the work myself. I've already used up all my vacation time for the year. I can't comment to much on the "actual" cooking experience as DW is the only cook in our house, I just reap the benefits. This kitchen is for her for because she deserves it and has always wanted an AGA and a beautiful kitchen. Our first meal was pancakes of course! The kids love pancakes. quiltgirl Regarding our counters, we have about 36" to the right and about 60" to the left. There is a large island directly across from the AGA. The granite was templated a week ago and should be ready for install in a week or so.

I want them to come and measure for me and come back and install them AND wash the windows! They could run the vacuum, too, as long as they're here. moccasinlanding, I come and read here from time to time, depending on my level of boredom with the rest of my life. I got stymied with the living room redo and abandoned it for now. I had a sudden financial drain and will have to wait a bit to do anything, even the windows.

sombreuill (so nice to see you pop in on my thread), that's the way we're going to go. After much discussion and research, we're keeping the existing kitchen door and addressing the jam rot only. I talked to a supplier about purchasing a custom made new rot resistant jam for the TT door (their old doors were an inch taller than all other brands). And then I talked to the owner of the window contracting company who suggested that since the rot was minimal, another option was to remove the affected wood, fill with epoxy and sand it smooth. Once painted, we'll never know that it was damaged and there would be no reason for further damage to occur (the leak that caused the rot happened years ago and has since been addressed). This is a cost effective solution that won't delay the exterior or interior work so we're quite happy about it. This company has an excellent rep (BBB, contractor's board, Angie's List, Yelp, etc, plus two suppliers told us that, hands down, this is *the* company to work with. Their work is excellent). They are conscientious about making sure that all installs are to code and won't cause water issues down the road. The amount of flashing, wrapping, etc that they are adding to our windows and doors is more than twice what our initial install had 21 yrs ago. You should have heard them mumbling about how poorly the house was flashed and how amazed they are that they haven't uncovered any dry rot (so thankful for that but it could have been a different story if we hadn't replaced the failed LP siding when we did.). When I searched for affordable tri ply all clad (not the All Clad brand which was too expensive) induction cookware a couple years ago I read about the Tramontina from Walmart too. Unfortunately I also found that Canadian Walmarts do not carry it and I couldn't order it in from an American Walmart. I could have gone to the U.S. and shopped there but it wasn't practical. So if lisa_a happens to be from Canada it would be why she can't find it in Walmart. In doing research on it, it seemed the Walmart line is made in China whereas other Tramontina sets are made elsewhere (can't remember where). Some people don't trust materials etc. on stuff coming from China. I ended up shopping Amazon.ca and getting a set of Quisinart French cookware for a very decent price. It is made in France (I don't think all of Quisinart is). It is triply and all clad as well so not just the bottom heats up. I have been happy with my cookware and feel I got something similar to the Tramontina I wanted. It has a lifetime warranty. There are other very similar sets of Quisinart available so you need to really watch to get the triply all clad ones.
