I decided I was going to do a Valentine's day table for the grandbabies since they're the most precious things in my world. Their moms nearly had heart attacks when they saw the table ..lol ! The first words out of their mouths were OMG..mom they're going to break something !! I told them there isn't one thing on this table that can't be replaced,but the looks on the kiddies faces when they saw their "grown-up" table couldn't ever be replaced.

Oh, that is so sweet! I'm sure they were thrilled to have such a wonderful table. So many nice accents. I love the color in those blue glasses!

Jeri, I still don't want to bother to test for ph, don't know how, and afraid to send in soil samples and the work of that. Maybe I'll be forced to do it. I'm lazy about some of it. There are little buds on what's left of my RDV's. Guess I'll have a couple mini RDV's this spring. If they put out new growth this season, I'll try to force myself to protect them for the winter. I don't have to do it for all. They weren't in the best of shape when I got them anyway; they offered to replace one, but I didn't want to bother with it. That one isn't patented, I doubt, so I got two for insurance anyway. I can root some new ones from cuttings if I want unlike some of my others. First blooms on Harison today; they're not going to be very double this year like last. Probably the winter, but absolutely no tip dieback. Every single other rose had a little or a lot of it.

Great colours florantha, that quartzite square tile backsplash is pretty cool. The scarf painting is fab. LWO and florantha - ugh, that kitchen again. The only element you could possibly keep is the stove I think. marcolo - that is exactly right re: bringing the salon into the kitchen. You need a special place to pull it off, agreed. Vlad's apartment could pull it off - crazy high ceilings, great floors, just dress it up. Here are some real photos of the interior of the pink building I posted earlier. Tsarist Russia REALLY embraced pink in all its forms. I should try to do a more budget sensitive new world Russian emigre take on an Imperialist Russian salon/kitchen. But if budget is an issue I'd probably run into problems finding the photos.

I discovered my husband's vintage rifle does not work for this purpose. Here we are with the pink carpet. Much too busy for me although color-wise it does work better. I do feel this rug is also too small for this space. We constantly walk across this space since it leads from the TV room (where we hang out most of the time) and my office to the kitchen and the rest of the house. If the table were much bigger it would feel like an obstruction that had to be negotiated. Fifteen of you did not like the table with the blue rug and two, my husband and I, like the larger, darker rug much better and are fine with the table. Guess who wins? It shows very little in the picture, but this table was described as "distressed" and indeed it is, although I'll try to increase that effect. Ladies, you'll forget about all this shortly but we have to live with it, so I plead your indulgence as I ignore your advice. At the same time, thank you kindly for the many responses which I really appreciate.

Thank you, Julia. Actually, Mean Green and most anything with orange does not showup well with the phone and houzz may allow one camera photo in the comments but that is it. I love it and it has done so well here, thank you. And Hot Tamales and REd Hots has bloomed really well this year too. Thank.k you again. I was able to buy quite a few more from Angela Ridders plants since I like Pink Tarantula so much and I have been quite happy with them. Not all of them are unusual forms, but most of them are. kay

You are really on a roll. What lucky grandchildren to be made to feel so special with this table. The blue is just lovely and unexpected. WOW.
I hope you took photos of them at their table!

I love that you set a grown-up table for your grandchildren. I've used my good dishes a few times with my little grandchildren, but I've never had enough nerve to use the stemware.
You know, I find that my grandchildren will actually take on a more mature posture when seated at an elegant table. Of course, it only lasts so long, so they're usually excused to eat the dessert elsewhere. I bet they thought they were VERY IMPORTANT. Did your stemware emerge unscathed?

Cindy and Milosmom .. the blue stemware actually came from the Dollar Tree believe it or not. Between Christmas and New Years, they had the champagne flutes and the water glasses. I had never seen the blue there before,so my friend and I scooped up 8 of each !
Yep Karen.. 3 tables !! I must have been off my meds.. just kidding.. I was having so much fun I just didn't want to quit !
OA.. you're right. They did act like little adults through out their whole meal. I was shocked ! Especially since the 3 of them are under 6 years old ! And the stemware survived without a mark. They just picked it up by the bowls with both hands. It wouldn't have mattered it they broke it. Watching them have so much fun was worth the price.
Jane.. I'm trying to convince them I'm their favorite Nana..lol !

Oreo...you are the best! What a precious table for your GBs' ...love the lollipop-type decor you tucked in the napkin ring.

Had to LOL about dishes for GK's...been cleaning out cupboards & gave my oldest GS (25) & GD (27)...their old plastic "Ninja Turtles" drinking cups with straws...pink & purple plastic! DGS sent a pic of his on his workbench! LOL ...and not as brave as you, I have a plate stack of Melmac kids' dishes...you know, Barney, Mickey, etc. etc. for those little ones!

Susan, what a sweet table for the GK. I agree they will probably always remember this. You have been one busy lady and I'm loving it! Seeing your table reminds me I forgot to add napkins to my last table.lol

Jeanne, I'll bet DGS is prouder of his cup than you will ever know. He didn't put it on the work bench for nothing. So sweet.

How wonderful! I'm sure this table really made them feel grownup--and special! (And of course, those lollipops would have produced big smiles!) That was really sweet of you to do this for them. I'm sure you already are the "favorite" Nana! ;o)

My granddaughter loves to play in the living/dining room where most of my favorite pieces are. She once picked up a pretty cup and saucer and I said "Oh, we can't use that honey, it might get broken". She got a sad look on her face and said "You just don't trust me". Now she was only four at the time--but I suddenly realized that this was the time where I should explain about carefully handling pretty "treasures" and then use it for a tea party with her. She now loves using the "grown up" cups and is careful with them. And you know what? If one did happen to get broken,--it's not nearly as important as she is.

Susan, that is one very pretty table! Without a doubt you are a fav Nana, and for good reason as you value your DGC more than "things" and share your enjoyment of lovely things with them. I know children really like pretending to be grown-up. One of my GD's has liked having real tea (weak) with me since she was very young altho she likes to choose her own adult size mug (since I usually use a mug). I'm inspired to use china teacups next time.

That is beautiful and I KNOW they will remember it always!! I always use the "good stuff" when the grand girls are around... They always act like such little ladies.

What a fun, pretty table, Susan! You grandbabies are blessed to have you. And, good for you to realize that their memories are worth much more that a glass . . . which are lovely BTW! Am I the only one here with no grandkids yet? With a 25 y/o son, I'm hoping that he'll make me one someday soon. In the meantime, I'm getting lots of ideas from you all. How lucky for all of you whose grandkids live close by. I love hearing all your stories of them :~)
