white enamel stovetop

I'm having a hard time getting my white enamel stove top CLEAN. I've tried all my usual things, including Magic Eraser. Even just making a pot of stock leaves broth stains that I can't get off. Any suggestions for cleaners?

Have you tried Soft Scrub or anything similar? I have a product by Watkins called Creme Cleanser and I love it, but I'm pretty sure it's basically a soft scrub-type cleaner that smells like mint. You could also try a paste of baking soda and water.

Are these stains brown? Is this a stove with electronic lighters or standing P. lights? If they are electronic just spray them with Easy Off. If they are standing P's be carefull as you will get a flash back due to the propellant. My parents had a Magic Chef range and puchased it 2 years bfore I was born so it would be 56 if my mom still had it. Every Sat. she would paint Easy Off on it as there was no spray back in the time. This was between the front and back burners where the standing P. was. No scrubbing or scratching of the enamel. I remember that she was able to remove the plate where the grates sat and just take them to the sink. It looked brand new as she never used anything abrasive.

Talley Sue, I feel your pain. After remodeling our kitchen I chose a middle-end self-cleaning electric stove. I can't believe how hot to the touch the top gets. So much harder to clean too. I will have to try some of the above suggestions. I HATE to cook on the darn thing because it's so hard to clean up. Next kitchen remodle will consist of a microwave and vending machines only ;) To think I gave up my almond-colored 18 yr old, still working, stove. Now I know how my Mom felt two years ago when she had to give up her 1949 Tappan. Still working perfectly and in beautiful like-new condition! They sure don't make stuff like they did in the "old days" LOL

The white color has been discontinued replaced with Dune. The lighter enamel interior is actually a sand color. The black enamel is better for high temp cooking so it's used on their frypans, grill pans and woks. It's better for that purpose. It's definitely not inferior, just better suited for the job. The only line that has the black enamel on all the pieces in the black matte or satin black. The advantage is the black will season with use, and doesn't show staining as the sand enamel will over time.

If the black is chippy or cracked, can you get your hands on a pressure washer? (Very difficult to sand wicker.) You have to be very careful with PW. Best done in hot weather, so depends on where you live. I had a wicker table with chippy paint. Pressure washer (gently used) got nearly all of it off. Get too close and you will have split fibers. I let it dry in the sun well for several days. Primed with rustoleum spray primer, then sprayed with rustoleum finish coat. Has held up pretty well for nearly 4 years now, no chipping/flaking yet. (It's outside on my deck, covered for winter, and covered in summer when storms or rain is imminent. If the black enamel is intact, no chips, then wipe it down with Dirtex or another good pre-paint cleaning solution. (If in doubt, ask in the paint forum here.) Use a good oil-based primer. (I like Zinsser products, or Kilz might be a good option to hide that black). Then pain with your white enamel.

Eteienne, I remember my Mom painting Easy off on her oven with a brush. She wore heavy rubber gloves and the smell was awful. Thanks for bringing back a memory!
