Different wall over/microwave brand, is this a bad idea?

Hi Everyone...

I'm trying to make a decision on which wall oven and microwave to buy...

This will be a 27 inch oven....

From what I have seen, the Bosch would be a good choice, however, I've read enough bad reviews on their microwave to really give my pause in purchasing...

Since the microwave will be stacked on top of the oven, would it look bad to have different brands? If so, just go for the Bosch microwave and hope for the best?

Any opinion greatly appreciated, and if you mixed brands I would love to hear how it turned out

I personally wouldn't be concerned about mismatched appearance. I'd get the respective units that best fit my usage needs.

normally I wouldn't worry much about a microwave, I don't use them for cooking, just heating things, popcorn, etc so it's not high on the list of appliances to concern myself with, but anytime i see a bad review ...i think twice

...I'm getting a 'collection' of mismatched appliances in small kitchen...Samsung FD refrigerator...Viking cooktop....Ventahood ....everything is SS...which in and of itself can present coordination issues....(different shades/finish of SS)

Don't really think you have given the clematis time to get going Pat. The clematis you got from Debbie was one that was growing in a pot and was probably setting in mostly full sun. It was fine all last summer and was planted in the ground last fall. The plant then had to get acclimated to its surroundings, its new home, and growing in indirect light. It is probably just getting its root system going. I have several that I planted last fall that are up but still not going great guns. I have Duchess of Albany planted on the north side of my house and it has not fazed it one bit. The plant will get bright indirect light in the early spring and as the sun gets higher in the sun should get some direct sun later in the season. I realize that you are further north than I am so that means that the sun may not get as high in the sky as it does for me so you know better than I how much sun it is actually going to get in the position it is in now. I agree that transplanting it now shouldn't be an issue for you in your zone. Then again you could see how it does over the course of this season and then move it this fall if it fails to perform as well as you expected. Alina, hadn't ever heard that about red clematis. Can you remember where you heard about them needing some direct sun? My garden is mostly sunny so I have not really had to worry about my reds getting enough sun. Normally I am having to look for some respite from the summer sun! LOL

24" sink cabinet - Good idea? Bad idea?

Lots of useful points here, thanks. After doing some measuring, we would up tentatively deciding that we'll put in a 36" sink cabinet. We'd have so little room in a 24" cab around a garbage disposal (assuming same model we have now, and assuming the drain is in the center) that we'd be hard pressed to store trash under the sink. So with a 24" cabinet, we'd probably wind up losing 15" somewhere else to making a dedicated trash pull out. Thus it's actually efficient to just go to the 36" sink base. (The 30" doesn't work as well as 24 and 36 sizes, for various reasons involving window placement and ikea sizing.) If we stay with this decision, it seems we'll have a lot of latitude in selecting a sink size / configuration. I'll almost certainly go ahead and move to a larger sink - the question will be whether to maximize the potential of the large cabinet or keep the sink scaled to down a bit since the kitchen is smallish and the window in front of which the sink will be set is just 30". With the current cabinet choices open to me, my main work areas in the kitchen will be 33" to the right of the sink cabinet base, and 54-61" on the left of it. Plus however much smaller the sink opening is than the 36" span of the base cabinet. A little more prep space is always a good thing, but so is making dirty mixing bowls disappear.

This project shows the difference between working with an installer vs a designer/installer. There's a pretty big disconnect between the two spaces. The plantings don't help - the looser textures and informality of the plants at the lower wall have nothing to do with the symmetrical plantings above. That said, I think you're left with an opportunity to do something kind of cool. I think if you add to the natural look of the lower wall plantings, and continue that idea around the perimeter of the lawn, and then increase the formality of the upper garden wall area a bit more, you create enough contrast that it looks intentional. Almost like coming out of the woods, or a meadow, and discovering a formal garden. If I were to do a path to connect the spaces I wouldn't do anything super formal or overworked, I'd do fieldstone slabs set level with the sod. I've seen projects on houzz where the only answer is nuke it from orbit and start over. Yours is not one of those. I think the right plant choices, thoughtful layout of a walkway, and some other minor tweaks will have you loving your backyard.

Search on this forum about the blue interior enamel chipping. It has been a problem for 10 years on all Wolf ovens with a blue interior. There are several lawsuits going on. There are like three makers who make almost all of the microwaves for everyone. Bosch isn't one of them (Sharp and Panasonic are). Just choose something that looks okay with the oven and don't give it another thought.

Most people who choose their own appliances don't buy them as a suite from one manufacturer unless they're given a incentive offer they can't refuse. Some makers do one thing better than another, while a different maker does the other thing better than the first. Or if not better, at least in a way that you prefer. If you put a little bit of trim in between the oven and MW it won't matter if the finish doesn't match exactly either.

I'm in the same boat. All different manufacturers of all my new appliances. I've unpacked the trim kit for my Sharp microwave and held it up to my Bosch wall oven... Looks just fine to me. Those are the only two appliances that will be right next to each other so the only ones I was the slightest bit concerned about. Like Dadoes said, I wouldn't be too concerned about it. My take was that I should be more attentive to getting the appliances that gave me the features I wanted and were rated best.

I have a Maytag w/trim kit in my kitchen above my Kitchen Aid wall oven and in my boyfriend's kitchen above the pantry. It is 2.0 cu feet and goes very nice with both - it doesn't have any brand markings. His is over 2 years old and mine over 1 year old and so far so good. Here is the link.

Thanks to all for the responses....

Vickkig...the Maytag looks good....the brand marking was the issue, some are very dominant...I didn't realize there was a brand without them...so I think Maytag it will be....I decided to go with the Bosch Wall oven instead of the KA...and use the KA dishwasher....these 3 appliances will be clustered next to each other, so the Bosch wall oven will be the only one with a noticeable brand marking

I will mention one thing - this doesn't bother me, just depends on how picky you are. The shade of blue on the clocks is different. Seems like a long time ago I saw someone bring this up?? I don't know what color the Bosch is, it may match, or you'll be like me and not care. LOL!
I have KA dishwashers in both homes and like those too!

I know this is a really old thread but I had the exact same question come up today for the same reason. I am wondering what you went with for microwave and if you were happy and if anyone has pics of a Bosch 500 wall oven with a different brand microwave above it? THANKS

These are stacked and the trim kit makes them look matched.
I do turn off the Advantium clock so color match is not an issue.

I also have an elux fridge, Miele DW and wolf induction. OCD DH is fine with the mixed appliances.
