2 Towel Rings or Double Hook for Hand Towels?

I posted on Home Dec with photos on the link below but hoping for more responses here.

I'm getting ready to gut the bathroom and trying to confirm placement of wall accessories before framing.

Can't decide between 2 towel rings on side walls next to built in double sink vanity or a double hook on the back wall, centered between the double mirrors and above the backsplash. I could use smaller fingertip towels with the hook.

There will be a sconce and towel hooks on each side wall, so I'm wondering if the towel rings will make everything look too busy.

Any ideas? Thank you!

I would go with the hooks just to keep things consistent. Pretty choices!

Stephanie's is actually a stand - I have one, can only put fingertip towels on it since it's so short. But works for DD, I'm thinking a towel ring or hook on the back wall b/t mirrors when she gets taller.

Why don't you buy an inexpensive stand and try it to see how you like it before you commit?

Hooks are easier, but rings look neater (if people bother to fold the towels before slipping them through the rings) and I think are more secure - the towels don't fall off them like they do the hooks. Hooks or rings, a position on the side wall near each sink may be more convenient, not just for kids, depending on how far apart the sinks are/how far from the walls they are. You could always place the hook for the "in-use" bath towel higher and closer to the shower and still fit a hook or ring closer to the sink and lower (just check the length of your handtowels, remember they're not doubled on a hook like they are on a ring, so hook would be higher than ring in the same location).

I don't know if you really need to frame out for hooks or rings like you do for bars - unless you think your kids would really pull on them.

I'm sort of doing both too. But our bath redo is at a stand still, so I just put these up temporarily. Please ignore the walls, which will come down when the project is restarted. First, the train rack which stores and provides a towel bar as well. It will have the blocking to support it placed behind the new walls. The towel ring as shown was the one we used before, the old one, and I might find a place to put it but who knows. And here is my favorite hook of all time, which I purchased from Lee Valley Tools. It can go behind a door and it folds up. It is also a very nautical design, since boats are always short on space. It makes a good mudroom rack where you can hang a hat on top, and then spread out the other hooks for your gloves and jackets. And then this one, on clearance at Pottery Barn and sold as a bathroom magazine rack, but it is a fantastic towel bar/rack too. Not bad on the price either, if it is still available. I'm using it now beside my sink in the bath undergoing redo.

Drawer pull instead of hand towel ring

I did this in the guest/kids bath when we remodeled a couple years ago. I have a double sink vanity in there and the drawer pulls are the traditional bar pulls. I have two 9" pull outs( similar to a bottle/spice pull out in a kitchen) that I keep shampoos lotions etc. in. Mounted at the top I put 8 3/4" bar pulls at the top. The spread between screw holes is about 6 1/2". It is perfect to put a handtowel on and works great right next to the sink. The great thing is that since it is a pull out-the towel doesn't interfere with any other drawers underneath opening and getting shut. I hope that makes sense. I would post pics, but not sure how.

I don't know where they should go but I like it that you are fixing the walls to to handle the fixtures after the walls go up. I have never had a towel ring but they look like they would be under a lot of stress & torque as one tries to pull the towel off, unless the ring swings left and right to accommodate the side pull. I like hooks and bars. If you put a bar by the tub I would put one that was actually a grab bar for safety. They have many nice looking ones. I have seen chrome plated ones in several designs. As I was as my DS's house taking a shower and drying off while standing in the beautiful claw foot tub/shower, I needed some help with balance and I put my hand on some mounted shelving, not thinking. As I eventually wobbled I put too much weight on the shelve and down it came, braking the nice decorations that DIL had up. So, in my remodel I will have only grab bar worthy fixtures near the tub for safety :)

What side is the best side to hand a towel rack or hooks?

Beautiful room!! I put the large size brushed nickel (fake, they are really plastic) Command hooks on the end of the wall like the one between your shower and tub. They hang nicely and could be reached from either shower or tub. I would hesitate to do a train rack at the end of the tub where you will be standing up. Potential head banger. The Command hooks don't leave marks on the wall, so you can try it out. I put heavy damp towels back on mine and they've never failed to hold. If you like the placement, you can get fancier ones if you want to screw them into the wall.

Thank you, shmeal and ajsmama. I want to plan ahead and frame for the hooks if possible b/c DH prefers to not just anchor accessories to drywall.

I might just have him frame for both options and then wait until the sconces and mirrors are installed to decide. A freestanding one might be even better so I can try that for awhile before deciding.
