Shower Pan Slope Problem? (Pic Included)
Comments (4)Yes, this needs to be corrected. Being that you've caught it before the tile went down, it's an easy fix, and most pros would be able to take care of that just with some "creative troweling" of the thinset when they install the tile. But what you can do, is take some thinset, and using the flat edge of your notch trowel, fill that void, laying it flat on the CORRECT part of the pitch, allowing the end of the trowel to "float" above the void just as your stick is in the picture, thereby screading off the thinset and filling the void....See Morepre-made shower pan
Comments (10)DH ordered a Tile Redi a few years ago for our total master reno and I was so stressed looking at the thing. We got it before stumbling onto this wonderful place. It was the whole thing, the material, the preparation, the flange, the screw... just made me cringe. After much debate, I begged and pleaded for us to just chalk it up to a loss and go with the kerdi pan (which I thought when I had initially looked at it a few years back only came in set sizes which is why we didn't get it, but then upon further research the following year, found it to be customizable!) Our tile redi pan was only partially coated with redguard which was a big red flag to me that something just wasn't right, also I couldn't see how we would easily continue the flange up the wall without a whole lot of extra shimming or recessing... just wasn't worth it. Unless you design the shower floor around the drain, like a mud pan, you will likely need to adjust the plumbing anyway. I DIY'd the Kerdi tray and it was really fine. One or two little bumps, but nothing unmanageable. Wedi also makes a system that is good, but pricey... although it is probably the easiest of them all from what I could tell from my research, but never got to see one up close and personal....See MoreQuestions about LATICRETE Shower Pan install
Comments (4)I'm not intimate with that product, but most pans can be thinset to a slab. I'll wager a paycheck that Laticrete has a technical specification and install instructions that came with the pan and on their website that say exactly how to install it and with what products to do it with....See MoreDo pre-slopes in showers really work?
Comments (1)Just to add. If the rate of water flow into the bed is greater that the flow out then the bed will eventually become saturated. It might take weeks, months or years depending on the rates. Obviously Kerdi and Hydroban type membranes make this a moot point....See Morebill_vincent
