I spent some time on Houzz and found these three pictures of shaker cabinets, with pulls, which spoke to me. However, my quandry is that a 1" protrusion is in line with the door trim on the right - I don't want a handle which sticks out farther than this. You said it very nicely - I want something that enhances the geometry of the cabinet. What do you think of the edge mount pulls posted above? Love how these pulls are positioned. I have no idea what I'll store in the top part but my purpose in building this, was to create drawers for the afghans and light comforters we keep out in the family room. I'm not worried about anything catching on pulls or even handles with 2" protrusion (cabinet is out of the normal walk path). leave 1.5 feet at ground-a tote or basket will be pulled OUT to you when you want item so you don't need full 2 feet...medium sized totes are nicer than huge oversized ones from my experience. I'd plan between shelf spacing at 15-18 inches as you will reach IN and organize,place and pull out,etc....need "hand room"- maybe 21 inches at one spot. At the top shelf allow 2 feet to ceiling....rarely used/out of season blankets in storage bags/etc.... very handy so make it bigger....you'll need a stepstool anyway...so allow for substantial storage there. Are you placing fixed positions....can't this be flexible/adjustable shelves.

Hello, I think increasing the depth just a little bit to 24" would be a smart move. It will give you a little bit more space for storage (as we all know, everyone can always use more storage space), and it will visually balance out the space nicely. I would just make sure that you do have enough clearance to open the linen closet doors without hitting the tub or getting too tight!

Need to see the closet in conjuction with your plan. It's all about proportions; our linen closet is 39" deep and 72" wide with double doors having three 36" deep full width shelves and one 24" deep top shelf. It is designed to provide abundant usable storage. Admittedly one needs the space for such a large linen closet, our corridors are almost six ft wide. I designed the home.
