OOOHH, what a deal! I have seen them, they are great! So now is that a promise to show us your table next Thanksgiving?? Nothing like a great buy to warm you up on a cold day!
My dear friend whose dh died last year has decided to sell her house and buy a condo 90 min from here, closer to where she used to live. She has been gifting me with some of her "pretties" as Sandi calls them. She just brought over a large pretty bowl from Portugal trimmed with ceramic pink ribbon and some green. Perfect for Spring. Also a beau wicker lamp, but I will have to find another forum to talk about wicker, LOL.

YEA Tam!!!!!I can feel your excitement as I have been there MANY times, and it wasn't even with dishes!LOL And what an awwwwwwsome deal! Having the cream dishes already makes life a lot easier. I went over to my Mikasa store the other day and it was closed~was I bummed! Your table is going to be beautiful! Look for linens that are on sale, too. Homegoods still had a great selection.

Judith, I do not like brown, but I love those little brown plates. And that stemware looks just like the yellow seeded glass Target had recently. I sure wish I had bought some of them, but they only had 3 or 4.

Kathleen_li, You can talk about your wicker lamp on here. Where are you going to use it? And your bowl from Portugal sounds just beautiful.

Judith...I like that picture...I have some of the cream decorative pumpkins...and some beaded fruit in harvest colors...I want to use a chocolate brown tablecloth and napkins and either the beaded fruit or gold accents with the cream dishes...I picked up those gold colored seeded goblets at traget around christmas...yeahhh I am well on my way with this table...LOL

I have a friend who has a very lifelike big dog, it must be resin, and she moves it everyday to a diff spot,. People walk up to it thinking it is real, LOL. That"s what I have to get, I wonder where they are on sale!
Sandi, I had those brown dishes for years, you know 70's earth colors, rust eewww. I never thought about the food being the right color on the plate, they always ate it. Thank goodness no one turned me in to the can't put a certain color soup in a brown bowl police! Now I know better... Get white, goes with everything!

kathlen, I have actually seen those birds nests in person at a "fancy" store in my area, they are actually quite "involved" with the twigs and such, one could probably do a simple facsimile. But, for the price on the web, and in the "fancy" store they are in no way worth the price to me IMHO. But they are very nice looking because they are more evolved than the regular bird nest one sees for sales in craft stores and such.

I am sure they are more involved, but I think just to use for Easter the cheaper one would do. I don't know that I would use it on the table, but maybe on another table or mantle. I bet our crafty ladies would come up with something lovely! We have a Villeroy and Boch in town and they have them too, very $$$, Me, I would make my own, unless I was into collecting nests, which is for the birds, IMHO, ha!

Kathleen, I agree, the cheaper thing will definately do. I was only attempting to point out that in trying to do those particular ones would be much harder than one would think. I have the simple nests myself that I bought at Michaels and they do just fine.

In this glass bowl I used the simple bird nest (they even came with 3 blue eggs) I hope you can see them, this is the best pic I have of it. Then I just added loose feathers, some sprigs of white flowers and a larger wreath of red "twiggy" things to finish it off.
The bird is a little resin "key box" bird I bought at BLs for a couple of bucks.

Michael's also has a candy birdnest you can make on their website. Just search for nest and it will come up. Remember the haystacks with butterscotch morsels and chow mein (I think that's what they were) noodles? You could substitute the chocolate morsels.

Also, where I live I see lots of little bird nests that are gray & mossy looking. A nest could probably be made from crossing 2 little twigs and either tying or hot gluing them together and building a little nest from sphagnum moss.

I haven't seen the bird nests at Michael's, but will check them out for sure.

I understand what you mean, Judith, and I am sure the one on that site is very intricate and fine craftmanship. And for some people that is a pittance! Sometimes you have to have the "real" thing, and others store brand is just fine. I want my gold to be at least 18k, but Michael's or homemade is good for me for the nests.LOL

Kathleen, what other site was the birdnest on? Did I just overlook it? Not sure if I can offer suggestions until I know what we are talking about.

Oh, when I stopped at Tuesday Morning, they had small (like 3 or 4 inch) little birdnests with a couple eggs in them and flowers along the rim for $4.99. I kept looking at them wondering what I might use them for--ended up passing on them.

For a larger birdnest, I always thought one could sort of take apart a grapevine wreath to loosen and shape it, then hot glue or wire it to the shape. Then just add some dried moss here and there on it. Haven't actually had a reason to try it yet--maybe I will after you tell me what pic I missed!

Kathleen, Those look like the twig wreaths with the ends of the branches cut off and something added to the middle. By the time you bought the wreaths, the soft liner materials, and the eggs--you'd probably have close to that amount invested in making them.

Loved those big wooden bunnies, and the white statuary ones too!

Kathleen ...I think the basic look of the nest can be recreated with something from Michaels...I too would not pay $15 for a birdnest...I can get 3 plates for that price....lol...and in the spring that robin in my neighborhood will build me a nest in my fuschia hanging basket like last year for free...now mind ya I have to run from her swooping at my head as long as she has the babies in the nest...but I guess that is a small price to pay for a nest...lol

Actually, there is a little tree I can see from my kitch window and there is a nest in it. Only trouble is, it is last year's model AND there are bits of blue plastic hanging out of it which wouldn't go with my decor!
Actually, I was thinking of displaying (serving) these choc cake eggs I have been making for years in a nest. I usually put them is a low rect basket I have, with Easter grass underneath, but I thought making a nest on a footed cake plate might be cute for the buffet table.

Kathleen_li, I like your idea of putting the chocolate cake eggs on a footed cake plate with a nest. That will look really good. And you have given me a wonderful idea for using a cake stand. I don't have the egg pans, but I have 2 different bunny pans. One is a stand up that you "glue" the 2 sides together with frosting and the other is a little lay down one. I usually cover the stand up with coconut and use green food coloring on coconut for the grass, but DH & DS don't like coconut which means I have to eat the whole cake by myself if we don't have company.

could you make the cake with something other than coconut, maybe a white icing, or my fav choc!I have a very easy del choc icing, which would be great on your bunny, Of course you might not want them to eat your centerpiece!!

Kathleen_li, I could make him with any kind of icing. I just think he looks much cuter with the white coconut on him. I guess this year I will make him without the coconut though. I don't care if they eat him. LOL He's going to be on my bar if I put him on a footed cake plate.

If you have a dormant honeysuckle vine, you can cut off the thinnest ends and wind yourself a nest!!! Start at the bottom and make it sort of a solid pinwheel medallion about the size of a silver dollar...then wind it more loosely coming up the sides...slip the smaller offshoots in among the windings to hold the entire thing together...a little bit of brown twisty will secure any layers that don't want to stay intact. At the top I usually use some short clippings stuck into my wound layers, to give it a loose "ruffly" top!

Tam, here is an inspiration pic showing some pumpkins. I like it cause you can use all your pumpkins as part of a centerpiece, if you don't want to use them for holding food.
Plus it's a good example of a all white/cream look, and since you do have a set of white/cream I thought you might like this insp. photo.

Jaybird, we must think alike~I did something similiar years ago using the vines from ivy, and it worked beautifully! I also 'collected' branches and made a small arbor over a small brick path I laid. One side connected to the house, and the other side I needed to dig a hole and cement in several larger branches I had twisted around a closet dowell to form another 'pole'. I put them in the bath tub to soak for a day first. I love working with nature! ;o)
