Looking for fridge without an icemaker.

I'm remodeling the kitchen in my 120yr old house and I really don't want to run plumbing to where the fridge will go. Besides, we don't drink the water from the town supply.

I'm looking for a french door or side by side without an icemaker and certainly don't want a water dispenser.

The only one I have found in the $2500 or less category is the GE PFS22MBW. Does anyone know of other choices?

Am I being a luddite? Should I just give up on this quest and just not hookup the icemaker? I hate to give up the freezer space for something I will not use.

We bought a GE FD CD in November. It had an icemaker, but we didn't want to run a special water line for it (altho our water is great--our well), particularly since we don't use much ice. So its in place, but no icemaker in use. It doesn't take up much space, so its not a problem. Of course, I also have a full freezer in the laundry room, so the freezer space isn't critical for me. But the frig is great & very quiet.

Buy what you want. Most if not all can be easily removed.

I measured all these fridges. Inside. I multiplied the inches and divided to get cubic feet. I did the same exercise for many commercial fridges too. Commercial fridges always had accurate documentation. Residential fridges never did. In commercial fridges, the stated capacity is an accurate volume number. In residential fridges, the stated capacity is just a number. Anything "nominal". Nothing related to reality. They are still being honest, since the number is a general indication of order of magnitude. It gets a bit dishonest when they start dividing the "general" and "nominal" number into decimal parts. It misleads us all into thinking there is a correlation with real capacity. Executive Summary: (Or, all you really need to know:) Inside the Summit is as much space as inside the competitors' fridges, and nobody has lied. It's either the same volume, or just about.

SxS models with ice maker in the door are sometimes problematical. The door areas tend to be at a slightly higher temperature than the interior-proper (on both the freezer and refrigerator sections, thus the oft-stated advice that milk stored on a door shelf doesn't last as long). Coupled with air infiltration from the ice chute opening, ice in the storage bin may melt ever-so-slightly into a chunk, jamming the dispenser and the bin removal mechanism. Higher room temperature and humidity, such as in southern states where air conditioning may be run at 80Â°F contributes to the problem, as does low ice usage, infrequent "rollover" of the ice supply.

We are in the process of replacing our SZ with a GE Monogram. We had a lot of issues with temperature control as well as issues with the door seal. A number of posters on the forum recommended the GE so we decided to switch. Not sure how much freezer space you are looking for but the freezer on the SZ is not large. Probably worth measuring out before you make a decision.

ok it is not the best method. I have two one for an icemaker, one for a flowthrough humidifier. What would be the best case scenario? tee then adapt it 1/4" compression with some sorta brass fittings? And where exactly do I put the shutoff in the mess? Cost aint the biggest object (as long as it aint $25 in materials per hookup), appearance wise I dont want it to stick out 6" from the pipe (seen a friends house done this way...first f'ing thing I seen walking into the basmemt, didnt care for it) I always used saddle valves cause thats what was supplied and any project that doesnt mean additional trips to the hardware is a godsend. And I am not being sarcastic. I am not a plumber (or anywhere close). But I am fairly knowledgable on most aspects (though I prefer electrical work)of residential repair/ upgrade type of stuff.

We have the Jenn-Air CD FD fridge and just disconnected the ice maker since we have a separate undercounter ice maker. I wanted to use the ice bin for food storage, so it was no problem just to turn off the switch.

When I looked at Warners-Stellian last fall, the LG, GE and Amana/Maytag/Whirlpool were all available without the icemaker. I wouldn't want one either and don't like the idea of being charged for something I don't want.

FWIW, the ones we looked at for my Sister were all under $1500. Seems like the more expensive, the more they push the water/ice on you.

I went with the Samsung FD and I dont plan on using the ice maker... the tiny little water dispenser is inside and doesnt steal any space at all (we dont drink vegas water) You can find the frig at costco right now for 1499.00 or at Best Buy for 1549.00
