Patio door height for 9' ceiling master bedroom
Comments (2)Definitely the 6'8 or a 7'. An 8' will leave you very little room between the moulding and ceiling. You have to factor trim around the doors into the equation as well. Is this a traditional or contemporary build? If you hang window treatments (i.e., drapes), they need to be hung just below the molding, or so the experts say :) This enlongates the windows and looks great. There are some differing rules if you are doing a valance and have higher than 9' ceilings, but with 9' you should hang below the molding for sure. As far as the 10' patio door - hard to say without a plan. I love the idea of a wall of windows, but would have to see it in plan form to see what other space you have. I must say though we were at the Wynn in Vegas a few years ago and one of my favorite things was the wall of windows across from the bed (the curtains were on remote!). Beautiful view and if you have this it might work great!...See MoreHUGE master bedroom; TINY master bath
Comments (24)I'm bumping this back up because I've been thinking about scaling back. We are reno'd out after our kitchen, and now bogged down with painting nearly every room in the house. We also have to take out some carpet and install hardwood. The thing I hate the most is the sink right across from the toilet. We do use the bathroom at the same time, but there is barely enough room for toilet and sink use simultaneously. Plus, I hate having a mirror right across from the toilet. So, I'm thinking of keeping the vanity as a single vanity, 48", but moving the sink closer to the shower. Then we'd put tall cabinets across from the toilet for towels, toiletries, etc., which we currently keep out in the hall closet. Though I still worry about the huge size discrepancy between the bedroom and bathroom....See MoreIs my bedroom too narrow?
Comments (24)Thank you all! I feel so much better. It has been bothering me for a couple weeks and I decided to let it go. Then when my friend mentioned it (who is not the architect for the project-met him after I started the planning), I became stressed about it again. I hope never to have to sell the house, but resale is always on the back of my mind... I guess I didnt think it through, but we are limited on land for the addition as there is an 8-10 foot drop off 4 feet from the exterior wall. So I couldn’t make the bedroom wider. And the closet door and bathroom exterior door are lined up and to widen the bedroom would throw it off. Plus I was trying to stay true to the original architect’s vision, and this room is the same size as the master he designed on the other side of the house. Lastly, I didnt want clutter. As Mark said, an Eames chair or womb chair, some walnut built in’s at one side of the bedroom, just simple and no clutter. I didnt want clothes in the bedroom. I wanted it a place for sleeping. Mrs. Pete - it’s 12’ 1” before drywall.... the only other thing I could do is indent the wall, but I dont think this stays true to the house......See MoreSingle or Double Door to Master Bedroom?
Comments (13)We may need to start a thread about "why are architects designing double doors to master suite". It looks fancy/dramatic/whatever. But they will not block sound as well, lock as conveniently, or open/close as conveniently on something people use every single day. It gets in the way of light switch placement. It is madness, I say madness, to do a double door into a master suite. Just a small pet peeve of mine..... (and yes, I had to tell our designer to delete our double doors into the master bath from the bedroom - which I close every morning while my wife is sleeping)...See Moremdln
