Ice Skating at the Pond

I'm planning to get my Christmas village packed up in the next day or so, but wanted to do this table for our dinner tonight before I start putting things away. I was sort of rushed for time and basically threw the setting together.

I used several of my Colonial Village figurines to create the centerpiece.

This couple has been out for a lovely ride in the cool crisp air and they are just arriving at the pond. I don't see any skates in their buggy, so I think they've simply stopped here to watch the other skaters.

Doc Mitchell has arrived to check on little Kevin Banks who has taken a small spill on the ice.

Kevin's sister Monica Banks stands close by to make sure he's ok and maybe to lend a helping hand if he needs one. You can just barely see Pamela Henley skating away. Do you think maybe she's perhaps the reason Kevin fell?

This is what we're hoping for this week! The weatherman is saying we might possibly have some snow Thursday...there has already been some flurries tonight. It's been ages since we had snow, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

I'll send you our snow. We've got about 4 inches that has been here all of 24 hours and I'm tired of it already. LOL

When I saw this picture, I immediately thought:

Whose woods these are, I think I know.
His house is in the village though.
He will not see [us] stopping here,
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

Thank you, Jane. Yes, it snowed again last night, and more expected tonight to add to the stuff that was still there! Thank you , Lynne. I love that cloth too, I have had it for years! Jeanne, yes, doll Baby must have a cloche. CTS had the little butter cloches for 1.50! Karen, yes the skates are from CTS. I was hesitant to buy them. They are breakable so may be a problem to store! Candy, Hans Brinker was a fave of mine. I remember getting it in 4th grade from my aunt, and couldn't put it down! Luvs, none of your comments show up on my blog. But thank you for trying. Seems a lot of us liked our paper dolls. I remember when you could go to the five and dime (we had two, Danner's and Ben Franklin's) and buy a whole booklet for a dime. Of course, a dime was pretty hard to come by back in those days and when you were 7 or 8. We cut furniture out of old Sears and Penney's catalogs and make pretend rooms. I read a lot, too. Like YogaLady, we got library cards very young. The library had a summer reading club. If you read 10 books and gave an oral book report to the librarian you got to go on a picnic at the end of summer. I usually had read at least double that amount. We also played games. We played riddle-dee-dee, I see something you don't see. Then you would give a hint--like it begins with a "B". When we would go to Grandma J's, she'd play cards with us. Mainly "War" which can last forever--bless her heart. Summer was for bike riding--with some friends we used to ride 5 miles out into the country to my grandparents' farm. We'd go to the creek to cool off and explore the woods. This was in 7-8 grades. Winter was sledding and ice skating at Herkles pond. Usually a fire to warm us when needed and hot chocolate in thermos bottles. Gosh, sometimes it'd be fun to be young again.

Now watching again here on the east coast.The men are on now. It's amazing what they can do. I do wonder why they wear such goofy (to my eye) outfits. The women look so elegant. As ley Wagner, Gracie Gold and Polina Edmunds are the US Olympic Women's Team.They are so young, especially Polina. I think of what a dorky teenager I was at age 15. I do like Scott Hamilton's announcing. He skated at my local club, where I skated as a kid. Dick Button was so critical of the skaters,although he obviously cared very much. Last night they showed all the past Olympic female skaters who were there to watch. It was so good to see them again.

Oh, please do! I think it's been maybe 4-5 years since the last time it snowed here in southern Alabama.

Kim, so glad you made a new table for your dinner tonight. It's pretty and would fit right in here. They are predicting 8" tonight. The roads were slick on my way home so more snow may be a good thing.

Pretty dishes and I like red so your cutlery and napkins look good with the darker beaded placemats. I really like the shape of your tray for your skating pond and the way you set it up.

I've got some for you too. We've been getting so much and expecting more by the week's end. I've had enough already...especially once the Holidays are gone...I want the snow gone too..lol
Well, as the saying goes.. 'The Grass Is Always Greener'..however, in your case, I guess it would be 'Snow'!!

Cute, cute, cute. I like the red flatware and the little white trees are really different and nice. We had 3 inchs of snow yesterday and the kids were out of school. We don't get much either and DH and I really enjoy watching it when we do. We are supposed to get more tomorrow night and I hope you get some too.

Except the "envious" part, LOL.
How can anyone "throw together" a beautiful table is totally beyond me. Wasn't it Kathleen who said "its not brain surgery". LOL, heck no, its Rocket Science!
