Closet Storage: Elfa Classic vs Decor?

After researching GW, it seems like the Elfa system gets rave reviews. Do people have any experience with Decor vs classic collections? Is Decor worth the extra cost? They have the 30% sale till March 2nd, so I am looking to make a quick decision. I like the flexibility of the system and how it allows room to grow. Other system I am considering is freedom rail, anybody have any thoughts on this system. Looking for a nice system while trying to maximize dollars.

I think it all depends on how you are using it. In my reach-in closets with doors that are always closed, or my basement laundry room, Classic is fine (especially if I might slide a door closed while a drawer is open, don't want to chip it). If I were doing a highly visible space or a home office or my main floor laundry which is visible from a few rooms, I'd go Decor.

I love my elfa, have installed it in every home. Need to go get some of the new backrack stuff to add to my garage elfa!

Which closets are you needing it for? (are you likely to need to change the layout?) and are you near an Ikea? We just put in IKEA ALGOT as an alternative to the more expensive Elfa in our children's closets... I haven't decided yet what we'll use on the larger, more likely to change, parent closet.

But, here is an image of my daughter's closet with the Ikea Algot.

We inherited a small pantry with bifold doors, and it works great. We have elfa shelving floor to ceiling and total flexibility because of the open space inside. In fact, in the upcoming remodel, we're converting the laundry room to a huge pantry room, with spare fridge and freezer, extra prep space, and wall-to-wall pantry space. I was going to put cabinets along that wall, but decided it made more sense to put 2 sets of double doors and elfa inside, just like our current pantry only much bigger. 10' of floor-to-ceiling pantry/storage shelving that I can close off ... can't wait!!!! One advantage of an open closet rather than cabinets is easy access to floor space. I use 40-lb buckets of grains, and can slide them in and out easily, directly on the floor. No lifting. :-)

I've tried some of the closets mentioned above for various closets around my home, i found that Modular Closet systems were far superior. (quite surprising actually, considering their cheaper price point then EasyClosets, CC and Ikea..) They're manufactured here in the US so that's good. They're made of hardwood with a really solid melamine surface. It's basically a fully customized closet storage system for the price of a store-bought shelving unit, plus they offer free design service which is really helpful especially if your like me and not a good DIYer. Assembly is quick and install is easy, I had my nephews help me with that. Little piece of advice: Once you got a good closet system to organize your stuff, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it!! Good Luck! I like a mix I saw a walk-in closet first time in my life when I first came to the States. I thought it's kinda neat)) When my late Grandma did her first and last remodel, in the eighties, she "borrowed" space between two rooms (we had three altogether, and it didn't go by bedrooms like here)-and that's how we had two big, not walk in but still quite big closets. That was neat too. It was a nicely sized apartment but we were six people there. Everything was very organized..had to be. But we had lots of free standing pieces..say my and my brother's clothes all except for coats went in a small wardrobe, and the wardrobe wasn't in our room, but in a different, bigger room, where Grandma and Grandpa slept. Books, we had in every room. We have a lots of books now too-but to be honest, it's but a small percentage of what we used to have when I was a little girl. One can't compare. In short, I still find the concept of built in closet pretty neat)) But I love free standing pieces too, a lot. I think the right mix gives one function, form, flexibility and beauty. So I go by that. Except for the garage..that's my DH's kingdom..and he abhores the thought of ruling there too..:) but doesn't want anybody's help as much as I beg. He thinks closets help, shelves help, this or that surface will help..no, nothing will help..I will help if you let me:) The concept is important, but it can't be fully functionable and enjoyable without people handling it, you know.

My husband and I never agree on art and he had strong feelings against the flower. He said he doesn't hate this one so it's probably the closest to a win that I'll ever get. I think I'll stick with it, make a final decision on pillows, and call it a day. The last decision I have to make is the color of the credenza that will go under the TV (hardware will also be changed). I would like to keep it fairly neutral so it will go with future decor or possibly another room down the road. I was originally thinking navy but it's a big, boxy piece so maybe it should stay light in this tiny room. I was leaning towards a stained top and painted bottom. Light gray, light blue, cream, white? Any thoughts? As previously demonstrated I'm not great with colors or tying a room together- or any form if decorating for that matter lol.

We are doing a new build, so I am thinking 5 bedroom closets including master. Foyer and mudroom closets and kitchen pantry. I was thinking of basic setup in 3 bedrooms, so we can expand later. I wanted a nice system, but container store is about 1.5 hours away so it is a little hard to make it before sale ends. Ikea is 1.5 hours away too.

we have our butler's pantry, food pantry, entry closet, and master bedroom closet all in the standard, with platinum finish. The master closet has an island that is 4 shelving units locked together on casters with a hard top. We have a closet, extra wide with huge bi-fold doors fitted as an office in the Decor line. It looks great and functions great too. We only have the wood look work surface in that area. My concern with the decor line is strength on shelves, etc. metal on metal is strong. when you put wood in between the two it weakens it. The dark wood on the office system has to be dusted a lot more too.

I too am building a custom home and the container store sent a complimentary designer to measure my rooms and he quoted 6 closets and pantry including 3D and 2D renderings within 48 hours. I am planning to place my order tomorrow to get the discount.
