Water pump $$$$$

Thanks everyone...I'm getting my timing belt changed on the 92 Camry soon and told them to do the water pump at the same time...A-ok but wow he quoted me "about 365.00" as the water pump is 150.00!!! Does that sound right? Plus my AC is out and who knows what that will be....

I'm in dollar shock over the water pump....

That sounds about right to me ($150 for parts and labor for the water pump?) or is it $365 for water pump replacement and more for the timing belt?

Reekola ... yea he quoted "ABOUT" $365 for timing belt & pump. Don't know that much about the inner workings of the car so I'm glad it sounds about right to someone.

There is a variety of pump called a ram pump, or water-ram pump. While I don't now remember the exact principles nor the plans, it uses the force of the water flow itself to supply the power for moving water from one place to another. While it might not be able to be used in this situation, if you google for plans and details, I am sure you will find some. It would have the advantage of cost, since you would only need to buy/find the parts - it is 'self-powered', after all. The sling pump might be a variation on this...., already set up.

For a small pond like you describe I have found the pondmaster 190 kit (part number 2019) to be a good fit. It is a one piece pump and filter. It comes with an optional aquabell attachment that you probably won't use. I have a very small header pool on top of a stream that used to get a lot of sediment in it. I put this pump/filter in there without the attachment and it just discharges under the surface. The turbulence is minimal and it has really helped the water clarity. The whole process of replacing my water pump was about $95.00. I brought the pump($65.00) and the manual for my car($25.00). With a descent socket set and a couple of hours of reading the manual...your capable of just doing this yourself. Im no mechanic but I changed my water pump in my 2005 Dodge Ram 6 months ago and never had problem since. The step by step process is very easy to follow.

When using a booster pump fed from an above-ground cistern, the storage tank klem1 refers to is actually the bell housing on the left end of your booster pump. I suspect the delay could either be due to a restricted intake line from the cistern tank into the pump or a worn/stiff pressure switch diaphragm on the booster pump that is turning the pump on too slowly.

Chevrolet and Ford will survive the Toyota onslaught as long as they can keep their repair costs about one half's of Toyota and Honda...
$365 for a good 2 to 3 hours labor including $100 or so in parts.. sounds almost fair to me.. but I should have stayed in this field...

Just paid to have a water pump put in my car. The pump alone was $100...and that's for a chevy with a 350 v-8. Couldn't be more than 100 million of those out there. I'm afraid the days of the $15 + exchange water pumps are over.
