Recessed style ceiling beam thoughts?
Comments (9)The miter would make that bottom board flush, vs recessed. I'm working with a bungalow arts and crafts style home circa 1950's. Those beams were typical in that style as well. Is there any chance you could share a photo liz? I've got 3 beams built and ready to be primed and painted. Did a small groove at the bottom so it is recessed less than the photo shown here. They didn't turn out as bad as I was thinking and I may be sticking them up. Going to have the husband hold one up so I can get a feel for how they will look. You are right, after browsing Houzz and seeing that style beam in many of the beach bungalows and arts and crafts homes, I felt much better about it....See MoreWhat to do with this outdate marble floor?
Comments (10)match the (20-40 ??) yr old cement grout? not likely i would not attempt to remove pieces. That floor may be back in style soon if it ever went out of style. This job / floor is a major demo , certainly some resulting substrate work and a new floor on top. what is your budget? have you considered an epoxy/colored float over the top? if im seeing things correctly your floor looks encased in resin/epoxy coated or is it polished/ground down and sealed? but i cant be sure ??? an epoxy float may work . also a temporary non comittal option would be a quick floating engineered floor while not committing to removing or damaging the current floor affordable fast and buys you time with minor expense. An epoxy float is very thin and may be a neat compromise if you like the look. again, i cannot make out the current condition ........many options.......See MoreWhat to do about outdated floor tile
Comments (2)On a 1920s house, we made the living, dining room and hallway into one room. Then we patched where the walls had been and removed a layer of ceramic installed with wire mesh and cement over the original hardwood. To keep it in budget, it was then topped with a quality laminate flooring. An expert installer knows how to level all the irregularities. (I'm not offering my services to anyone.)...See MoreIs this too outdated?
Comments (5)You mentioned "outdated kitchen" but we can't really see the kitchen from your photo. Please share another photo of the kitchen if you want opinions on that. The flooring is pretty neutral in my eyes. I think some rugs to break up the tile a bit would help if you don't love them. I don't know if it helps any, but I have a fair amount of 2001 tile throughout my entry, hall, kitchen, etc and I rather like it. It's not the most up to date style-wise but it's very neutral and functional for us. Just because something isn't 100% fitting with current trends doesn't make it bad. Can you imagine how much waste our society would generate if every home owner changed their flooring every 2-5years?...See MoreGena Hooper
