Finished: Striped Marble in the Attic
Comments (52)Hi Pipdog and Jaqueline5, I found the fabric for my shades at Hancock fabrics. Its a linen/poly blend that looks like plain linen. I trimmed them with gray velvet ribbon I found online. My window treatment woman said she has seen that fabric so many times--I'm sure the have it at Calico Corners or whatever fabric chain you have locally. It is translucent while still maintaining privacy. I DID line them with a sheer fabric for added privacy and body. Both Smith and Noble and Restoration Hardware have "Relaxed Roman" shades and both have several linen colors. Smith and Noble does the trim, too, but probably not velvet. Here is a closeup, more true to color: I also did them in the adjoining closet, but with navy blue trim. I love them! (Don't bother with cord-free or continuous-cord. The basic ones work beautifully.)...See MoreCarrara basketweave kids' bathroom nearly done; pics
Comments (20)Rachel, I got the accent pieces from a local stone warehouse, and the carrara pencil liner on top from a different internet source. (TilePost I'm thinking? On sale for $6.99 per foot). Found it, here is the link. It is still on sale. http://tilepost.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=26&zenid=t405qf0cgqefervb87etj1gn10 I was a little concerned about bringing the carrara together from 3 different sources but there is enough variety in the carrara that it all works. The accent pieces were on 1' square sheets and I just cut it into strips for the accent band. The challenge was that these pieces are a bit thicker than the subway field tile, so the tile setter had to butter the adjacent edges a little thicker to make them all flush. My floor is honed. The carrara on the wall is also honed, but the black marble dot is polished. Good luck! Anita...See MoreFinished kitchen: Ikea, walnut, marble and glossy white
Comments (77)Hi cv2014, I still love the look of our Semihandmade walnut, to me it's very warm. We briefly looked into having Semihandmade make panels for the side and the back of the island, but we wanted a more substantial edge and it just seemed like we'd have better luck getting it to all work out if we hired a finish carpenter to do the job. We're very happy with how it turned out. You can go to almost any good lumber store and purchase a full sheet of walnut veneer for not a lot of $$s. Depending on where it's used, it could be ok if it doesn't match perfectly with the Semihandmade walnut. The corner cabinet has a filler piece, I think it was around 4 inches, that gives enough clearance so that the cabinet door can open without worrying about having it hit the door to the right. In my case I think I was also concerned about clearance so it wouldn't hit the oven handle as well. That was solved by making the pull-out next to the over slightly wider than originally planned. These are the older Ikea cabinet style, so I'm not sure if the new style has the same kind of corner cabinet or not. Good luck with your planning!...See MoreWould I regret a marble niche or backsplash in my tiled shower/bath?
Comments (3)We used polished White Thassos marble in our niches (top, sides, bottom in three bathrooms, plus shelves in two baths). We also used it as border tile on our MB tub surround (but it doesn't really get wet during showers as it sits outside the shower curtain liner, and curtain itself). I sealed it all when it was installed, and that's pretty much it. I use a "sealed natural stone-safe" spray cleaner (7th Generation Disinfecting Bathroom Cleaner). I spray it on, let sit a few minutes, and buff off with a microfiber cloth. No rinsing necessary (I do try to wipe it all off, as I'm not fond of the lingering scent left behind, mostly in the corners). As far as I can tell, the WT still looks perfectly fine....See Moretina_ma
