Here's ours. We did the permanent elements in classic black-and-white and added punch with pottery barn kids towels/shower curtain (which you can't really see in this photo). As the kids get older, we could easily update this with a funky paint color (think purple or lime green) and accessories from, say, PB Teen:

Nice bathrooms! Love the decorative tiles, Bill - I'm sure my kids would too! Holligator - going classic makes sense becasue yu can add the pop - although with a boy & a girl sharing, I'm always going to be limited (blue, green, yellow?)I would love to see more if anybody's got photos.

here's ours. We have a boy and a girl aged 4 and 2.

You can't see the floor tile very well, but it is almost black (Daltile Continental Slate in Asian Black).

We have since had the 1950s tub refinished, added a light above the mirrored cabinet, and handles on the door fronts. We still need to have glass shower door/surround installed.

mayland - THAT is what I'm looking for! What is the mosaic tile you have there? It's gorgeous!

Here is ours. My 8 and 6 year olds share it -- one boy and one girl. I did in a classic style which fits our house. I am going to add more whimsical elements with artwork, towels and a real shower curtain -- if I ever find ones that I like and that are on sale. These aren't the greatest pictures, but give the general idea.

Thanks Coleen, our kids love it and we are pleased with it, it makes an otherwise white room feel very happy.

The mosaic is called Kismet by Kaleidoscope Colorways, and I got it from mosaictilemarket.com on sale for $4/sf (i was SO pleased, i had been looking at blends that were >$20/sf!). That site has now become modwalls.com - while they dont carry the Kismet blend, they do have other bright colored blends you might want to look at (more $ though).

I did find the Kismet blend at MosaicTile.com though, with a lot of other very nice blends. Its now $6/sf although i bet if you called you could get a better price.

Here's a close-up pic of our niche (the colors are a little lighter than this in real life), and a sample pic that i kept when i was choosing (this is closer to the true color).

There's no yellow in the blend, it has a mauvey blue, aqua, green and lime-ish green. I do have a yellow Alessi Mr Cold soap dispenser though (the kids think he's a duck), and he looks great with the tile!

Alexamd - LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your bath! When we first moved in our house, I painted the bath a color similar to yours and I miss it.

Jill, I am sorry to disappoint you, but it is corian. I wish it were soapstone, as I am a huge soapstone fan. Unfortunately, I had to cut it out of my kitchen budget. I would have been jealous of my kids if I put it in their bathroom. I would have been making lots of excuses to go into their bathroom just to drool over it.

Those are exactly the towels I have in my black & white bathroom -- and I also got a mix of blue/pink for boys/girls. I did skip the stripes.

Alex: I love your color scheme. I'm thinking of something similar for a jack-and-jill bath we're going to be adding. Do you have a close-up of the shelving that you did on the end of the shower? I really like that idea, and would like to see how it was done.

The PB Kids towels are really cute in person & I think they would look great with your green walls!

Weedyacres...here you go. I wish that I put a cupboard below, but originally the toilet was going in that nook and it wouldn't have worked. The other bookcase is on the other side in our bedroom. This was empty space because we pushed the tub up to give the toilet more room. I hate dead space, so I put the shelves in. It ended up that there still wasn't enough room for the toilet...bad measuring on the part of the plans. This room was done in two parts, so it was hard to get a good feel for the space until all the plumbing had been roughed in and walls of the old space were taken down. I guess this is more than you need to know. I haven't figured out what will go in the shelves yet.

alexa - i like those shelves a lot, too. are they just wood all the way around & inside? how were they created? i have some space like that and the studs are 2x6's so i *really* hate to waste that space, but i can't find pre-made recessed shelving very easily other than mirrored cabinets or game room stuff.
