New Tablescape idea by DH

Hey Y'all,

I have to tell you about the cute idea my DH came up with.

I had been working on a valentine table the other day and my DH loved it when he came home. (This is a new addiction since I found all of you enablers and he has no clue how much it will cost him in the long run!)

So, we're sitting down to dinner and he is saying how glad he is that I have developed a new hobby since I retired. But then he made the comment that he knows what kind of tablescape he is going to have to make if I keep spending money.

Let's just say it includes old newspaper and empty bean cans and leave it at that until I can borrow a digi cam and post a picture!! It was a hilarious dinner to say the least. I laughed and laughed! Like I said -( He is still in the dark about his future empty wallet!)

Betty, You are certainly as early riser in your retirement! LOL

I wonder how many of our DHs have made comments about the price of our dishes and accessories...I know mine has made enough comments that I could share them with everyone else. LOL And tell your DH we are looking forward to seeing a pic of HIS table setting idea. ;~)

How funny! Think I will keep that idea in mind for if/when my DH ever comments on the money spent. I'll set up the newpaper and bean cans and say "So is this what you prefer?" LOL In all honesty, he probably wouldn't care--as long as he could still watch his tv shows while he eats his beans!

Ah-haha (rofl) Oh my gosh this is getting worse!! ha Oh, Jim, too funny. Are you sure that thing's a fern, I'm still concerned that it could be some alien flowerpod that's come to suck out our brains. Looking closer I see those poofballs sticking up and I can feel a Little Shop of Horrors incident coming on! You are sitting there nonchalantly eating your dinner on your slab of concrete and suddenly YOU'RE dinner instead!! :) Luvs~ I didn't even notice the napkin holders. I think you are right. I saw the Trading Spaces with the feathers, did you see the one where they put straw on the walls??? They brought in a bail of hay and put glue on the walls and went to town. I was thinking UGH! I thought the homeowner was going to die! She was sooo disappointed. They also did a grass wall on another one. The HO (that's homeowner btw) didn't like that either. Thanks guys. The idea of one book will work well for us. Since we will probably be moving, we are trying to aquire less "stuff". It would be nice to do handwritten, but people are all over the country, and I think I'll get more responses through email. There may be duplicates, but I think that's okay. I can space them out once I see all the responses. I like the idea of using pictures. Since his father and grandfather are doctors, I bet there are lots of pictures of him younger at their offices. we also have pictures of our kids playing doctor. And I still have his acceptance letter and other important documents. Good stuff. Thanks everyone.

We celebrated our 50th last May and I got my husband a Seiko mantle clock. It plays six different songs and they are all so pretty. They had several clocks to chose from and each clock had different songs. We have had so many compliments on the clock and the beautiful music. My husband was so pleased and that is saying a lot as he usually doesn't pay much attention to such things. I had a plate engraved and put on the front of it. Felt like it was a real hit. The cost was around $300. Bought it at a jewelry store, but you might google and find one on line. By the way, it doesn't have to be a mantle clock, but that is where we put it. Congratulations! Did you try Party City for plates etc...they might have a tire table decoration. You could put NASCAR shirts over the backs of the chairs to decorate the chairs. Instead of streamers, see if you can get the checkered flag type banner, similar to what gas stations have flying around the pump area. Throw a bunch of matchbox cars on the table. Sounds like fun.

What a cool hubby!!!! You need to give him an extra hug for all of us!!!
It makes me smile when someone admires the table and/or dishes and DH gives me a silly look!!!! He thinks I'm crazy until someone else mentions it!!

betty, that is a funny one, can't wait to see the pics of the HOBO tablescape!

I buy a lot of my decor for tablescapes at yard sales, saves tons of money that way.

Since you are retired & up early, try hitting them & see what you find. Our's don't start up again til April, not sure what part of country you live in, but it's a great source of new goodies and a great hobby!
