Playing around with centerpiece ideas!

In the midst of my boxing things up today, I decided to take a little break and "play" with some of the things I had out.

I have absolutely no idea what dishes I could use with any of these, but I loved all the sparkly things and pretty colors, and it was fun to try to see what might go together.The fabrics are just some I've used for tree skirts or other decorating.

Keep in mind that I was just "playing"--and it just felt good to have a little fun with it all. If you see anything that might actually have possibilities, let me know. ;o)

WOW, Luvs, you sure play NICE. I love all of them, and you've really got a knack for the stacked plates it seems!!
I think I'm quite jealous, LOL.
My plates are sitting empty and I hate that, but no clue what to do with them for now till Valentines! I'm leaning towards using some of my bird figures but HOW or with WHAT I am a blank. Need to go to Michaels and see if that might jog my poor ol' brain someway.
Your sparkly gold things are beautiful too.

Each one I saw I was thinking that was the one I liked best. The color combinations are all so nice. You have some terrific sparkly pillar candles. They're like a party all by their little ol' selves.

Yesterday I was in Bed Bath and Beyond and found the cutest shower/bath set of soaps, body spray, etc. It was on the clearance counter and I bought one. I actually got it because I wanted the container for my bathroom. It is in a bronze color and would be good with what I have there. The thing is that the container looked so much like a leprechaun pot of gold that I actually considered buying two of them so I could paint one gold. I think I will run back by there and see if they still have it. I don't/won't use the products inside but they would be good for my dear neices for Christmas or to go in with birthday or Easter gifts for them. Hmm... I knew I should have picked one up. I just didn't know how I would use it. Thanks for the idea! By the way BB&B has lots and lots of cloth tablecloths, napkins and napkin rings on sale. I spend around $40 and got the bath set, a decorative mirror tray, six (yes 6) tsblecloths, 2 sets of napkin rings, and four napkins! One tablecloth has a large turkey in the center and turkeys on the corners, one is a fall harvest tc, a beautiful coral colored one with the matching napkins, and then three in the same autumn gold in various sizes.

Thanks all. :-) I'm looking forward to setting up a "pumpkin themed" table for the brunch we're having on Thanksgiving for my parents. I'll switch out the centerpiece to include my large ceramic pumpkin tureen (it matches the little bowls I just got) and the bowls will be serving pieces for that meal. I'll post pictures when I get it all set up. DD, I really didn't do much decorating. A table in the living room, the fireplace mantle, the front window, and the outdoor basket is all (aside from the dining table, of course). All very minimally done. My thanksgiving stuff fits in three smallish boxes...a far cry from the tubs and boxes for Halloween. You're right, I don't have the energy for much after October! :-)

so we "named" our tables after our favorite writers/philosophers. I found wonderful quotes that involved marriage, love or friendship from each of the writers/philosophers, and framed it (with 5x7 frames). People said they really enjoyed going from table to table to read what the other quotes said; it encouraged mingling! Each table had a stack of hardback books and i wrapped them in a thick piece of ribbon that matched the bridesmaids dresses and then wrapped that in a thin piece of rafia and tied it on top. (does that make any sense?). Instead of a table number we used quotes so i went to bed bath and beyond and bought 10 frames (about 10 bucks each) and typed up a quote from the author of the table. For instance there was a JD Salinger table and it said: Salinger Table It's just like a girl to go ahead and do that they wind up saying something amazing and you go falling head over heels in love with them (okay that isn't the exact quote but it was something like that from catcher). So the picture frame with the quote was placed on top of the books so it was higher and easy to read and on either side I had two little candles and I tied rafia around the clear candle holders to match the kind on the books. This idea is an obvious fit for academic/literary types, but could be extra funny with cheap romance novels and pulp fiction, which you can get for pennies at any second hand store. Stack 'em and wrap 'em in ribbons Â suddenly trashy fiction becomes an entertaining conversation piece. Stick a wedding-branded bookmark in 'em and they're kitchy favors! Like Muglies, only readable.

Thanks for the further suggestions. There is a lot more sun on the right end. Lilies do well. I think delphiniums would be fine there. On the shady left, I just had to cut down an overhanging branch due to the trunk cracking in a heavy snow, that may make the left end more sunny than it has been before. Hopefully my gold hostas will not get fried. I’m thinking about a monkshood in the shadier end too. I think the path idea, though it appeals to me, will be dependent on whether I can get at least 2 of the bushes behind it dug out. Though I love the way it looks, I can’t keep frosted Brunnera alive. I was slowly getting some to expand in the backyard, but the lack of snow cover seems to have done them in too. They would be up by now if they were alive. A plain green one in another bed is up. One silvery plant that came to mind is pulmonaria. That does well in one bed around a tree (same location where the silver Brunnera croaked). I have one I got in trade (so don’t know that name) that is almost all silver, with just a fine green edge, rather than spotted. Since I have not done much planting around the gate location recently, I don’t know how the drainage compares to the adjacent hosta bed at the left, which is at the base of a very slight slope. Since I have a lot of gold and purple, the easy route would be to just use Hakonechloa macra 'Aureola’, since I already know I can grow that. Though where I have it now gets a lot of sun, conditions for both areas would be comparable. At least for now, I can’t extend the stepping stones. It will be a while before I can kneel well. It was a marathon of kneeling to prepare the base, paver base, etc., and lay the stones 2 years ago. The gate color I’m keeping. I matched the original paint, which a friend told me was a very traditional shade for garden fence in France where this came from. I have an outdoor metal/wood bench on the patio which I will paint to match. It also goes well with my house trim.

I think you could do a Valentines table with the first stacked plates! Replace the silver balls with something maybe.... Go for it!

Every one is very very pretty but I love the first one - what a beautiful transition into Valentines day. I am going to have to start scouting the GW, SA and flea markets for some plates that can stack and jars that can be filled - love it - love it......

Hmmm! Kathleen, for Valentines, I have collected quite a few cupid pieces that I plan to use in the stacked plates. I will probably use my red roses since I have quite a few of them already and the white cupids will show up good against them. I'd better start thinking about what I want to do since I will probably need to shop. ;o)

Jenn, those gold sparkly candles were on sale at Marshall's and while really pretty, I don't know what to do with them, Just seems they need to be in some kind of an arrangement.

Lynne, the thrill of the hunt is half the fun! Surprising what we can find sometimes. I'm trying to look at things and think how I could use them in a vignette or centerpiece, but I don't think I have a knack for it! ;o( But I'll keep trying just because it is fun. ;o)

Karen, you are doing great with the stacked plates. Bird figurines sounds cute, hope you come up with a plan so you can show us a new "creation". ;o)

I just have to keep "playing" and "experimenting" partly because it is sort of fun, and partly because I am really trying to learn what things go well together. Hope you all had a little fun looking. Now back to the packing up and putting away Christmas decos! LOL

It was very fun looking!! I wish dh wasn't such a paper pack rat. My dining room table always looks like a sloppy desk!!! Tons of mail and such. You all are very talented at decorating tables and place settings.

Luvs, love your apothecary jars. It looks like you have a lot of fun decorating your tables. I have not used my stacking cake plates yet. I did see several pretty white ones at Hobby Lobby yesterday. They had pink ribbon running through the eyelet edges but I already have a set. It is time for us to decorate for Mardi Gras. I love those colors but am not sure if I will do anything this year since I have so much to do with our painting chapter.

Luvs, All 3 of your centerpieces are very pretty. You could use any of them for a vignette on another table for Valentine's Day. I think my favorite is the 3rd one. It is so sparkly.

I particularly love the second centerpiece. But I think that, with some cupids instead of winter decorations, your stacking plates would be great on MY table for Valentines ;-))

Otherwise, the second one is so lovely and not only reserved for the holiday season!

Thanks ladies, glad you enjoyed seeing my experiments. I probably won't do anything with the stacked plates until Valentines now. They are just sitting empty in the middle of the dining room table--looks so blah and sort of sad! ;o(
