RB: I really don't know who pissed in your cornflakes ! If you read carefully , perhaps starting within the Fri Oct 1 st Post of mine . You will see that I agreed with your Viscosity Recommendations and also cautioned very clearly of lighter grades syn oils within extreme service applications . IE: Air Cooled Engines and Diesel's are Prime examples. I later stated that I never said semi or full syn oils Killed Engines ! Never have ! These oils can cause premature wear , within High Stress Components on the example High Mileage or Hour Stationary Equipment ENGINES that I have given. None of the failures were catastrophic in nature , but oil consumption and engine noise change became noticeable . I really don't see where your confusion is on contradiction if your read the notes within their intent , just a simple misapplied oil usage for the application 10W-40 or 15W-40 Dino Oil would be the Safe aternative on my examples. Anyhow Dude as for the Capitals , yes I probably do improperly use them for a form of Ownership and Emphasis , Sorry was a College Grade (Diesel) and Stationary Engineering not University Grammar Graduate. Secondly when you get my age your find it hard to drop bad habits . As for trying to impress , Hell No but these terms are familiar to me , did not think we had any 5th Graders on the Forum ...woops more Capitals . Last but not least try referring to internal combustion equipment as Engines not Motors which are Electrical Prime Movers. Have a Great Week . This Dude is off to MOOSE CAMP !

First car... wow. 1970 VW Bug. Never tried jumping a curb, but it DID have a mind of it's own. It used to start honking the horn on it's own, blow fuses at will - boy did I get good at changing fuses, it would pop the tailpipe at will, I had to keep track of my miles because the gas gage fuse used to blow... if I had passengers in the back, the fender rubbed the tire... but all in all I loved that car - paid $1500 bucks for it and got every dime back out of it when I sold it 10 years later for a used 1987 Kawasaki Ninja... I used to pick up my girlfriends on that thing... parents LOOOOVED me! Still have the dang thing! NCTomatoman - wasn't a olive green pontiac tempest in My Cousin Vinnie??

What pops into my mind first off is the Studebaker. It might have been the same as Monica's. That would have been in 1962 or 3 and I have no idea what year it was. The "Green Bullet" was fun to drive when I could manage to shift it correctly. That really doesn't count because that was the car my Dad bought for us 3 kids to drive, so it wasn't actually mine. The first car that was MINE, would be a 1974 Pinto wagon. It was the coolest car I have ever had. It had an automatic floor shift (between the buckets.) It was brand new (Yes, nobody owned it before me!) and I made all the payments. It was bright red with black interior, with black and white plaid in the center of the seats. Even my kids thought it was cool!

Remember my little red '90 Dodge Colt, made by Mitsubishi, that I bought about '97 and drove for about seven years: it had a standard tranny and when I drove out almost daily to look after uncle's farm before it was sold that I found that I could coast over 16km. of the 20 km. trip? At something over 200,000 mi. the mechanic told me that I shouldn't drive it any more. I took it to a TV evangelist-related drug rehab "Teen Challenge Farm" nearby and they gave me a receipt for $400. for it. A friend at the investment group was surprised at my story, "What? They gave you a $400.00 receipt for that piece of _____!". They'd given one to him for something not too far over $100.00 for a newer (Ford, I think) that was in better shape, some time earlier, so his nose was rather out of joint over that deal. They signed the portion of my vehicle registration paper that's to be used for transfer, I took the plates off and took them home. A few days later I got a receipt in the mail for the $400.00 ... and had no trouble with it from the income tax people when I claimed it. ole joyful
