Trunk mat

Want to protect the carpet in my trunk. Checked out places online for trunk mats, and they were very expensive. Do you have any ideas that are less expensive?

Thank you

I suppose that would depend on what you want to protect it from. First if your talking some type of spillage, how about remove it, and use an old blanket, cardboard and a layer of plastic? Then when you want the car to look the way it was made, simply clean out the trunk and put the original carpet back in. Of course this applies more towards the bottom only and not the sides. the sides while they are not normally difficult to remove, and indeed more difficult than just the bottom.

I tried to come up with something before I gave in and paid the price.Glad I just went with the factory option trunk mat liner.Because it is one piece molded and has a lip that goes up a few inches on the sides all the way around. Not much of a way to get such a precise fit.I have one in my wifes car 2007 Malibu because she often hauls a crock pot full of things like baked beans. If it does spill tip over it will not get under the mat.If it did not have the side lips it would just get under the mat.If you plan on keeping the vehical a long time its a worth while investment.

Not sure what type vehical you have. But I found mine online from a discount GM site. That sell the same GM accessories for less then the dealers and GM direct.Same way with GM extended warranties you can get the same GMPP on line for about 30% less then the dealers want.

I think this is one instance where properly dressing the wound might be beneficial. I'm often the first one to say that, under normal circumstances, tree dressing/sealer should not be used. The presence of oak wilt makes this a special circumstance. The jury is still out on this but seems to be coming down on the side to use sealer. In a recent USDA pamphlet on Oak Wilt, they write... "Tree paints are normally not recommended for general use, but in this instance use of these products can protect trees from oak wilt. In the North, if trees are wounded during the dormant season tree paints are not necessary, but judicious use during the rest of the year is acceptable. From Missouri to Texas, tree paint should be used immediately after trees are wounded, at any time of the year." Here is an ISA published study that concludes that... "Pruning paints and proper pruning are considered to be important measures to further minimize the likelihood of an (oak wilt) infection and promote tree health." I'd be very careful about getting any spray on the trunks of young trees. RoundUp CAN cause damage this way. (Ask me how I know.) There's a lot more information out there about how we've been misusing glyphosate products all these years and need to get our act together. We may have been causing problems for our trees all along. Glyphosate products often contain surfactants, too. This makes them much more problematic to thin-barked (not necessarily young) and pigmented trees. Severe bark cracking is one of the symptoms. I would always use a shield when spraying this product around trees, just to be safe.

With enough water and maybe a little shade from the hottest part of the day, it would probably do fine in your climate. They are heat loving plants (as long as its not a dry heat) and grow all over the tropics (which I will say never does get to 100F in most cases, but the heat index is VERY high and the sun and humidity also strong. Not all bananas are edible, but a pretty good amount of them are. You can determine the type of banana you have from a lot of things. The most common can usually be ID'ed by growth habit or leaves, but some bananas can only be ID'ed easily by there fruit. Its hard to say what banana you have, but my guess is that its Orinoco, or maybe basjoo (I dont think its cavendish because the "trunk" or pseudostem as its called in the banana world is completely green, or at least almost, and Cavendish is usually blackish). If you have a basjoo, it will not produce edible fruit, but you will get seeds from the fruit and it will also survive your winters with very little protection if any once established. (Basjoos are the only banana as of right now that can reliably survive a zone 7 winter when established, however there are others that will come back in a zone 7 during warm years, or with protection, but they may not produce fruit because they would be sent back the ground every winter). Good luck! -Alex

I would say yes it's more important to keep the soils warm. Be sure to mist it a couple times a week but be carefull not to spray too much in the crown. I believe that's one of the things that killed my first one. I've been much more carefull with my new one and even though I've been keeping my house cooler this winter it seems to be doing great.

I still have the boot trim from my first car, a 1979 Chevette. When it was written off in an accident I kept the boot trim as it may come in handy, and it certainly did. It nicely covers the fancy carpet in my 2006 Opel Vectra's boot when I have messy stuff to take to the tip, or when I am picking up coal for the stove from the co-op. So stuff expensive boot linings from the shop, go to the junkyard and get the boot carpet out of some old shagger that is about to be crushed. Just pick a wreck that is about the same size as whatever you drive now and you can't go far wrong.
