I think you've received some great suggestions. Of course, you came to the right place! I just wanted to say that I'm sorry for your loss. My mom passed away almost 6 years ago, and some days, it seems unreal to me, and we weren't even super-close. So many days I need to know someone's name, or fill in the blanks in a childhood memory, or just have a question about how to do something. I invariably find myself going for the phone. Then I remember that she's gone, and it's been 6 years! Anyway, my mom and grandma passed away within 5 years of each other, and my brother and I got everything from both of their houses. We sold a lot, and kept the stuff that had memories or an emotional attachment, like your tables and lamps. Some of the stuff I started using/had sitting out right away. But, my grandma had a china cabinet bursting with glassware and teapots and such. So much of it is not my taste... too pinky and too many ribbons and roses for me. But, my grandma was the center of my universe, and she loved those things. So, they still sit in a couple dozen cartons, in the basement storeroom. Fast forward ten years... I "made" a silver and crystal vanity table-top set for my MIL for Christmas. I bought the tray cuz she wanted the non-tarnish silver, and I bought a few crystal tumblers for eyeliners, lipsticks, and other tube cosmetics. I wanted a small bowl for center front in my arrangement. I had it in my head that there was a little crystal bowl in Grandma's stuff, and it would be so cool to give one of her things to my MIL, who has sort of taken her place in my life. So I started searching, and searching. Turns out that the "crystal" bowl was just pressed glass, so that was a wasted hunt. But, the good that came out of it was that after ten years, some of the emotional bond with the stuff had faded. I now think I am ready to go through it, pick out the stuff that I really do like, and consign the rest. So, some of the emotion/guilt fades after a few years, and it's easier to deal with these items. Of course, in your case, it's not two houses FULL of stuff, and you actually like what you got! Sorry for the long story. Your tables and lamps look great, btw!

Nanny2a - If I'm understanding what you wrote the bottom of my lamp shade should be like 20" in diameter? That sounds and looks huge? Did I do that right? I measured from the bottom to the bottom of the socket base and got 22". Hmmm.. Threed - Oh no I wouldn't light them. They don't fit anyhow. I'll have to head to a lamp store with the lamp in hand. Chloe - I don't know that the tea lights would look right. I don't think I even have any to try right now though. Trailrunner - Thank you for those sites! The candle covers sound way better than the folded paper idea. ha I like the look of the candle cover things. What do you put on the top part? Or nothing because it's covered? Here's the ebay lamp I was talking about. I emailed the seller asking about the height of the shade. The bottom of it is 17" the top is 13". Lamp height is 35" I bought this shade just to get an idea. This is made so that you don't have to use a harp so I think it sits too low and it's not wide/big enough. This shade is 14" at the bottom, 10" top and height is 9.25". So I'm thinking I need one similar to the size of the ebay one? I'm going to try and find some lamp stores this week. Hopefully someone can help me and what I need is all right there.

I'm back from the shade store and yes, friends, I've gone completely overboard!! I have yet another shade to consider. This time I brought home several shades to find the right color. Now, I think I have the right color, but the shape is new, believe it or not!! It's a little difficult to describe. Basically it's a rectangle with a bell shape. The shorter sides flare out in a soft curve. I have 4 pics to share, in order to hopefully show the true shape of the shade. Picture #1 Picture #2 (from the side to show the outward curve on the short side) Picture #3 (a complete side view) Picture #4 I think I like how the rectangle shape of the shade works with the rectangle of the piano. So, if anyone is still interested in this saga, which now has really turned into a saga, what do you think of the latest choice? Thanks to all who have responded. I really do appreciate your input.

Thanks Magnaverde. I am not published because it doesn't comform to the editorial content of the magazines that are published right now. I think it may be close to what Met Home and Domino published but they no longer exist. Photos of the apartment made it partway through the editorial process for three national design magazines. #1 design editor said "If it was up to me...but the furnishings lean too strongly toward MCM to get the nod from the chief" #2 said "spectacular renovation, but not in the direction of planned editorial content, ...have you considered [#3]" #3 said approximately what #2 said. All of them seemed to think it should get published somewhere, just not by them. #2 and #3 have published things that are similar in spirit, but mostly by people who are well known and published already...the unknowns' work tends to be a bit more polished or something. So basically, either I don't know someone, or they don't know me. My favorite response was from the local design magazine: " ". Once they saw the pictures they said nothing. They tend to publish neo tuscan suburban behemoths or 1990ish Beetlejuice cutesy. They once lavished praise on the homeowner/"collectors" whose "collection" was every piece of white pottery Jonathan Adler had made in the previous two years. It too no more effort than a single shopping trip, but it did require a large credit card bill which the local mag seems to approve of. But I'm not bitter or anything ;-) I am on the market now, and most lookers seem to really like it, but the feedback of one potential buyer was "I don't get it." I like that though, if everybody got it, I don't think that would be a good thing.
