Chelone, how are you and your DM? Haven't seen you posting much over the past few months, so hope that all is well.

Hi Chelone,

I recall when you were taking time away for yourself & also have wondered how you were. Wasn't your brother helping out for a while?
Now I realize I experienced burnout last year when I was still working w/Seniors & caring for my Mom altho' she was in a Foster Home. She passed away last August a month after my Father's death & I'm just now getting myself back to where I want to work & serve again.

I'm here, goin' through the motions. I do what I have to do and things are OK. Mum did return and she left again and now is about to return, make sense?!

While she was gone we "rehabbed" her bathroom. New floor (over painted concrete!), new wall and ceiling color (to matcher bedroom), new bathmat and towels, more shelving and towel racks in more carefully selected sites.

I am to pick her up on Saturday and I'll be interested to see her reaction to the changes... I worry that she won't "notice"... indication of deteriorating mental faculties.

I bought her two new pair of slacks and some matching tops... reminds me to buy matching SOCKS, too. (matching socks are important to her).

Chelone, yes. Germinating seed is not impossible. May need a period of cold (stratification). Here's one recommendation: "These seeds germinate rapidly depending on species and origin. If germination does not occur after 3 to 4 weeks a cooling period of 2 to"4 weeks is recommended." Good luck. Gary

chelone lyonii 'hot lips' - ok in full shade?

Have also read contradictory statements on this for Chelon lyonii 'Hot Lips'. For instance Monrovia and Dave's Garden say/include full shade. Usually the recommendation is fall or partial sun. Sorry also can't say from experience because the large bulk of my gardening is done in full sun. Consequently my problem is rather soil drying out. As others have noted, classifications include degrees (and types) of shade beyond partial-shade, with "deep shade" being the end of the line. In the latter case: thankfully none of us are likely to be gardening inside an old growth coniferous forest or gardening underneath the deck of a house!

Just so you know, if there are any pink chelones near the seed-bearing white, you'll get probably solid pinks from the seed, though there could be gradations. The best way to get a white, is buy a white plant or divide one.

summer flush of leaves can appear wonky.. especially in hard summers ... if i saw something like this.. regardless of the type of plant.. i would think to myself i ought to check back in mid to late sept.. to see what came of it all .. and odds are.. i would never think of it again ... lol ... unless it was so bad it caught my eye again during fall cleanup ... and then id think.. i better remember to look at this again in late spring... and odds are again.. i would not remember .... .. lol .. it would either be dead.. or just fine ... and if it was dead.. good riddance.. i dont need your BS in my garden ... yeah.. rely on your memory ... it works for me .. because im not doing anything about it regardless ... ken

HI Chelone......Glad you got that little break. But you "sound" tired. Sometimes the every-day wears you to the point that the crises are hard to deal with!
