Fisher Paykel dishwasher problem

My mom had the Fisher Paykel dishwasher drawers installed in her new kitchen 2 years ago. She bought the panel ready version and slowly over time the moisture and heat from the dishwasher is ruining the finish on her cabinets and there is mold growing on the cabinet face abutting the dishwasher. I have 2 friends that have also had their fisher paykel drawers for around 2 years and don't have a problem. However, their dishwashers are not panel ready. They are the stainless steel ones. So I am wondering if anyone else has had the problems my mom is having with her panel ready drawers. I have noticed that the panel ready drawers do not have as much rubber seal around the drawer as the stainless steel ones. This seems to be the obvious problem with them, but no way to correct this design flaw now.

No, that's not normal. My paneled FP dishdrawers have been in operation almost 3 years with no problems. There are specific installation instructions that allow for space between the upper and lower drawers to allow moisture to escape from the lower drawer so it might be an installation problem. With any luck DadoES, the resident FP dd expert, will weigh in with ideas.

Thanks for the feedback. I went to FP's website and downloaded the installation instructions. The problem is not between the two drawers, it is around the top and sides of the top drawer. I double checked, and the panels follow all the spec. requirements. She is going to have someone out here from the extended warrantee company out on Monday to look at it again.

Well, for up to 6 grains hardness, the FP user manual says to set the softener on setting "0", which I am guessing means "off". I don't think that the FP senses that actual hardness (like maybe some Miele models do) and adjusts, you just set it on 0 to 5 and it varies the amount of softening. Its only with hardness above 14.6 grains/gallon that they "require" softening (external or internal). So, there's a good chance that I will find "0" to be my best setting anyway. There is also a good chance that my wife will accidentally put rinse aid in the salt reservoir, which will kill the softener...

Longest cycle on Eco = Heavy Eco. That's good, heats the main wash and final rinse to temps high enough to deal properly with food soils. I don't know anything about Trader Joe's, is it considered a "green"/eco formula? Dishwashers nowdays need chemicals (enzymes) to perform effectively. Try Finish Quantum as suggested above. Tabs and pacs are OK to use on the longer, higher-temp cycles (I wouldn't use them on Fast, Fast Eco, or Delicate Eco in case of incomplete dissolving), place one on the side shelves or in a compartment of the silverware basket (NOT in the dispenser cup). Cascade has a Platinum product that'd be a different formula than Complete, and one touted as "with the power of Clorox" ... assuming that means some sort of bleach, perhaps it would solve the problem.

You have an integrated model without an alphanumeric LCD on the handle? Fault codes are not displayed on the badge LEDs. The center LED is red when a fault occurs but the fault code is displayed on the cycle selection lights. You can check what fault codes may have occurred by accessing diagnostic mode. - Open the drawer. - Turn Power off. - Press and hold the Keylock button, then press Start/Pause at the same time for 5 seconds. - All the cycle selection lights should turn on. - Press Start/Pause button. The first fault code (if any) is displayed on the cycle lights for a couple seconds, then the second fault code (if any). Press Start/Pause again to repeat if necessary. Make note of the lit cycle lights for each code. - Press Power repeatedly until all the lights are off (should be 4 times) to exit diagnostics. The next time a problem occurs (with a red light on the badge), open the drawer to check the cycle lights for a fault code.

Do you turn on a hot and faucet briefly to bleed the pressure from the lines after turning off the mains? If not, then either there's a slight seeping/leak somewhere that's releasing it ... or does your refrigerator have an ice maker? The ice maker may run a harvest cycle unless it's directly turned off, which will open the valve to fill the mold and release the line pressure (on the cold line, anyway). Also, keep in mind that it's mains water pressure that makes washer/dishwasher/ice maker inlet valves shut off. It's not unusual that mains shut-offs are worn and don't close 100%, allowing some minimal pressure/flow through. Ran into that recently helping a neighbor clean up one of his rental properties between tenants. The exiting renter had the city shut off service but there was enough flow-through to run one water source (kitchen sink, or bathroom sink, or flush a toilet) ... just not two or more at the same time. The washing machine there went to seeping (there wasn't enough pressure to make the hot or cold valve, whichever, seal properly shut) and would fill up with a couple gallons over the course of several days. The seeping stopped when the water main was turned back on for the next tenant.

I don't have anything specific to offer on this problem. I have a prefinished DD603SS, no direct experience with custom panels. The only rubber seals of which I'm aware are the self-adhesive filler-strips that attach around the top and sides of the DD's exterior cabinet for purpose of providing a tighter fit and more finished look if the kitchen cabinetry opening is cut a little too wide. They're not directly related to sealing the front panels against moisture.

Is the machine perhaps set too far back into the cabinetry? I'm wondering what might be happening back in there, what would be found if the DD was removed for a look-see.

What cycle does your mother typically use? The Fast and Fast Eco cycles have either minimal drying/blower time or none at all, so would release more moisture when the lid unseals. Another option to consider is using the Child Lock function to force the lid to stay sealed after a cycle until it's manually unlocked for unloading, which would help prevent excess moisture release.
