Artwork in bathroom

I tried searching for this question, but surprisingly couldn't find an answer here.

We're shaping up our master remodel and were discussing putting artwork over the tub (we can't have a window). I found some interesting looking tapestries online and thought a piece of fabric would also help with noise control in this hard surface room - DH says no way, it will get too moldy. Then I was looking at some prints transferred to canvas, and began thinking what keeps anything from getting moldy without glass? We've always had small prints and photos in our bathrooms, some with glass some without, never had any mold issues. Any ideas?

Recently I have been turning my own photographs into wrapped canvas art. It is totally archival and water resistant. No mold...no fade.
There are two places that do it that I have heard of or used.
Call The Lepp Institute in California, Hal does made to order canvas wraps that are really affordable. 805-528-7385. The other one is on Maui Hawaii. The Institute of Visual Arts, a little more pricey and the same process. Randy Hufford does all of that canvas. They are both schools for Photography and digital everything, but they do their own canvas work as well. All you need is an images that is at least 180dpi at the size you want it printed at. It is printed on canvas and coated with archival coating then stretched. I had them add texture with a clear 'paint' that makes it look more 'painted'.

I love artwork in a bathroom, but I don't know about over the tub where it's exposed to too much moisture. What about a tile mural instead there? You can even design your own if your artistic and a company like Susan Jablon will set the mosaic tile for you all ready to install. Also check on Ebay for them.

There are also some gorgeous tiles on the market that has the look of brocade, or trees you might use on the back wall. Even a slab of a beautifully figured marble like rainforest would be stunning on that long wall.

I have an oil painting hanging over my tub area and another near the sink.

Since I've never had mold on my crown molding, wallpaper, windows etc, I'm not sure why the artwork would mold.

I do run my vent/fan when we shower.

Tile Source carries Art Nouveau tiles. Even if they don't work out for you there are some ideas in the link below. You can also search ebay for light fixtures but be flexible with your search. A lot of people lump things in Art Deco. Art Nouveau influences are seen a lot in my area - more than Craftsman - it can be very pretty. Congrats on your find! Very happy with it....the matt is a bit more yellow than i wanted so i think i might get that changed....maybe Ill leave it for a couple weeks the forget about it :) But im definitely happy with size and all! can i use this on another wall and the use blue as my accent color or do i have stick in these kinda colors now?

I have the exact situation over my towel bar/near the door in my master bath. You don't have enough room for 3 pictures no matter how you hang them. I have one larger print slightly smaller than the width of the towel bar centered over the towel bar and 5"-6" above so you have room to hang and remove your towels without disturbing the picture. Something interesting with the colors of your bath accessories?

Definitely no rules apply here. Besides, it's your bathtub. Who is going to come in and see it but you? Since you will be sitting in the tub facing it, it should definitely be something that suits you to gaze upon, something you won't tire of seeing.. (I might tire of a quote.) You might have fun considering different shapes of frames -- round, hexagon, gothic arch -- or a long verticle rectangle. Hard to make suggestions without knowing if the style and core colors of the artwork you have is something you want to basically want to match or if you want something to contrast it in some way -- more minimalist or something distinctly figurative or a classic art work... etc).

Hhhmm, I've never seen moldy wallpaper either. I was planning a tile backsplash on that long wall above the tub, at least 12-18 inches high, so whatever I hang there would not get routinely splashed. I think DH is wrong, but he can be hard to convince.

We've had everything from nice oils, to watercolors, to kids' artwork. On canvas and "regular" paper. In both the master bath and in the kids' bath. Some behind glass, some not, but the ones in glass have not been in sealed frames. No worries.

I've had some art on fairly delicate paper in sealed frames. No problems.

Never had a tapestry in a bathroom. Not out of concern, but just because we never have. We do, however, have decorative fabric "things." I don't even know how to describe them. But no, no mold/odor worries with those.

We (okay, "I") did contemplate using fabric as "wallpaper" on our master bath walls. Another option was fabric-covered wood panels in the frame and panel trim in the master bath. It was a beautiful fabric, and with the right paint on the surrounding frames the mockups looked gorgeous. My wife and her friend with the keen eye for design were naysayers at first, but both agreed it looked fabulous. But in the end they nixed the idea due to moisture concerns. Probably a good call on their part. But man, it really looked sharp.

Ok let's just tile the ceiling ;)!
No, I'm already using 3 different types of tile, one in 2 different sizes, and this hypothetical art will hang above a backsplash that will extend a foot or two above the actual tub. I don't think I want another tile element in the room, although if the floor tile line had a mosaic... hhmm. The other consideration is that we don't think this will be our forever house and I would rather not put in something so ... permanent as a tile mosaic.
