The dormer needs some fine tuning. If you keep it a gable, it should be steeper pitched, because as rendered, it matches nothing else. Consider changing it to a shed roof or a hip?
The windows don't read as well as they might. Consider a trio of equal-sized mulled double hungs.
I could also envision a set of french doors and a curved, wrought iron railing instead of windows.

I like big dormers too, but this one seems to be too wide for the width of the house. There's probably some rule about proportions that architects use to get it to look right.

I think the dormer is a bit big. I also don't think the window on the right should have an arch. It seems out of place. I would leave off the semi-circle on top.

i agree the dormer is a bit large and the pitch of the roof should maybe match the right side. there's also a lot going on with the windows: too many variations. the dormer window is huge in comparison to the others, you've got an oval window on your door and a paladium widow as well. i'd love to see some continuity instead of a mish-mash of different style glass.
i believe simplicity of form is key for this style home. and while i appreciate certain updates on traditional styling the paladium window and oval glass door seem very out of place.
that said, it looks like it has good bones. it should be fun to watch as you progress. good luck and please let us see the final rendering!

I'd leave the dormers. That garage/loft overpowers the rest of the house without the dormers.
I like the porch. We did the wrap-around porch and modified the plan somewhat regarding the front elevation.

If you needed the big dormer, I agree you should mock up a version with a shed roof as opposed to the lower pitched gable.

If you're willing to break it up into 3 dormers, I have to wonder what the purpose of them to begin with is, or what the plans for the upstairs is.

Here is an original elevation. We chose to eliminate the bonus room, changed the garage to 3 car 28 feet deep, eliminated the porch columns(cost..) and made the entire rear elevation a garden level. Our builder pushed the bedrooms upstairs out and added toyboxes to sit on in the window well. A trademark on all of his homes. It's nice to build your own.

biglumber- Thank you for sharing the picture of your home. It is beautiful. We are in the planning stage. We are waiting to sell our current house before we have the blueprints done. Hopefully, we will be ready this Spring to start building.

bungeeii- The purpose for three dormers would be to create more natural light in the bedrooms upstairs and to create a more appealing front elevation. Houses with three dormers is common in TN. I welcome any opinions on if the three dormers add to the front elevation or take away from it.

We have three dormers on our house which is similar to the one you posted & are in the South but our house is Plantation southern style. With a bungalow ,I don't know what the rule is. Our plan came with three & we did three. Maybe the rule of three or one is common for the outside too. Good luck with your building!
