You may be lucky enough to find someone offering cuttings for trade; if you don't have anything to trade now, send them personal e-mail & maybe you can arrange something. Or directly contact members that you see here having plants you may be interested in (most have personal e-mail addy on member's page). If you want cuttings sent from USA to Canada, remember there are certain laws/rules/conditions & it may be more difficult. (So it would be easier to get stuff from Canadian members). Looks like you may have Detroit (?) location - in that case no problem to get the cuttings shipped there. So few Canadian members are offering cuttings... Otherwise use the nurseries mentioned. Boy, eventhough we don't live in the states, i found this very interesting! but, i will say and i hate to admit this, but we Canadians do have it lucky, especially if you are a senior! when i picked up one of Al's prescriptions on monday, i was listening to the lady explaining to a man, about how the medical plans work for seniors, it seems that there is a co-pay to the government of 100.00 per quarter after that MOSTLY all prescriptions are free or a 2.00 charge depending on the pharmacy. our health care - staying in the hospital is free this would be a ward type of room - 4 to a room, however at this new fancy hospital we have there are only a few of these rooms, and then you would be put in a semi-private room at no extra charge - or if you requested this and wanted to pay out of pocket i think it is 54.00 per day. Al has been lucky he usually ends up in a private room (we have semi-private coverage, free through his being employed at the College), and a private room is 118.00 per day. Eye exams are free for seniors, diabetics and people with illnesses that it might cause blindness or you pay if you do not have private insurance i think it is 42.00 per exams. if you are not a senior and make over 30 thousand a year you pay for health care and it is a percent, i remember on the income tax forms it would be about 200.00 per year for a family. we are very lucky here and the government does look after seniors and those on assistance (or welfare, as it was called before), i'm actually looking forward to paying the 100.00 and then nothing! - Al's meds would be paid for after just 1 of his prescriptions! Yes there are issues with any medical system including Canada's. My Dad's cardiologist, nephrologist and oncologist all have practices just north of Philadelphia. I've spent many hours taking my Dad to his specialists during the last 2 years he lived with us and I met quite a few Canadians who had come here for treatment. There were many reasons- the wait time for a pacemaker was too long, the treatment wasn't available, the patient was deemed too old to qualify for the surgery (not too unhealthy for the surgery, but beyond the age perimeters). One of the reasons Natasha Richardson died of her head injuries is that Quebec didn't have a Medivac helicopter which is something we see fairly regularly here. Yes she didn't wear a helmet and refused initial treatment - but after collapsing and a medical emergency was apparent the only option was a 2 1/2 hour ride to the trauma center. While the US is critiqued (often fairly) for too many tests like MRI's and Cat Scans as of a year ago Pittsburgh, PA had more units than all of Canada. My neighbor brough his mother over from the Netherlands because she needed heart valve surgery and she couldn't get it at home due to her age. Every aspect of medicine care is over due for reform. Please don't think I'm trying to be unduly harsh on the Canadian system, I'm just pointing out that one isn't necessarily better at across the board medical care. There's a lot we could learn from the government run systems and it's going to be a hair pulling experience watching our Congress try to find the remedy (and pay for it).

If you can wire that easily using wiremold, it's not going to be much more effort to fish cable and install flush receptacles in the wall. Have courage, man; plaster isn't fun, but it's not really THAT bad. I'm an old house fan and I've updated wiring on just about every old house I've lived in. I've used different methods for cutting in boxes. I started off using a jigsaw and coarse metalcutting blades purchased in bulk (they wear out very fast cutting plaster). That method is fast but it tends to rip the lath off the back of the plaster. Currently I use, at various times and in various situations : 1. The jigsaw, when I'm in a hurry. 2. A Rotozip with a tile bit, slowed way down (otherwise it fills the house with smoke from the lath). 3. A keyhole saw that uses a short hacksaw blade; make sure it's set to cut on the backstroke so you pull the lath toward the plaster. This is the safest method when you have plaster that's somewhat decrepit. One tip is to never cut out two lath. Always cut one lath, part of the one above it, and part of the one below it. This makes for a better box fit and a more stable wall. You may be able to find the lath with a mag studfinder, but often I have to drill some pilot holes. You might like to try these boxes so you don't have to ask the plaster to support old work boxes. Then of course you have to locate the stud before cutting.
