For Those Of You With Stained Concrete Floors
Comments (14)mdc08, what I wish I would have done is to talk to my builder about the height of the gap before the framing stage. You will still want to buy standard height doors because anything special size will be very expensive. Go see other houses that have stained concrete floors and see what gap you want. I have 1 1/2"--I think the correct gap would have been 3/4". Talk with your builder about the gap that you want--and then make sure you get it in writing. Make sure when your framer is framing your interior doors, your builder talks to him about the gap that you want....See MoreFor those of you with Stained Concrete Floors...
Comments (3)I use a broom or regular vaccuum cleaner on my stained floors. I have a shiny finish--I just like the way it looks. I clean with regular soap and water, though I am stingy with the soap. Every once in a while, I use the finisher I used when I first did the floors. The floors that get the most traffic get dull the quickest....See MoreShow me your stained concrete floors & share your opinions
Comments (7)No, never really thought about it being cold. Maybe on cold days, but concrete stays at about the temperature of the outside. We get afternoon sun, so it can heat up. I spend most of my time on the porch in the early mornings. We have been in our home almost 7 years, and just recently bought an area rug for the porch. The walls are a stucco look alike over concrete board. Re-sealing is very easy! I use a mop or sealer pad and a small jug of sealer from Lowe's. Just vacuum, clean and then mop each square with sealer, in even strokes. Let dry 24 hours and it's done....See MoreCan you stain a concrete basement floor?
Comments (2)Is it always dry? How much moisture does it wick up? Tape a 2x2 plastic 10 ml poly sheet to the floor in several places. Wait 48 hours. If you’ve got active condensation under the plastic, then you can’t put down anything but a breathable carpet or a porcelain tile. The hydrostatic vapor pressure would lift any topical coating and have a peeling mess to deal with. If there is no water vapor, you can have the surface ground, micro topped, and stained, then epoxy coated. It will be way more expensive than tile. Or you can do LVT. Or carpet....See Morearmomto3boys
