IMO, Rojo Alicante is one of the most beautiful marbles on the face of the planet... And it would tend to cast a warm peachy glow onto your complexion which would be very flattering for many. (Nothing against Dark Emperador -- but between the two? No contest!)

The one caution I have with the Rojo is that it can be easy to overdo. With just vanity tops and tub deck, I think you'd be in no danger of that. But I wouldn't also do shower walls, wainscot, etc. (Maybe Rojo accents in a plain field.)

Both stones are so vivid in color and veining that they're stone that either you love, or you hate. There's no in between, and there are just as many on both sides of the equation for each stone. I don't have any pics of the Rojo, but there are a couple of pics of the Emperador, first polished, and then sandblasted:

Thanks everyone for the ideas and encouragement. I'm leaning more towards the Rojo Alicante for the countertops....but I'm not sure what colors we would paint the wall, so that everything goes well together. It is such a beautiful stone. I'm wondering if I will get "stuck" with colors you can use for rugs and towels.

Some slabs of Rojo have rich swirls containing white, bisque, cream, taupe, mushroom and gray. If you can find a slab with these swirls, you won't have any trouble finding towels or complementary wall colors.

I used Rojo for the floor in my foyer and powder room. I used the color of the veins running through it to choose paint colors for the trim. I intentionally chose a batch with lots of veins, and some wide ones, because I wanted the drama and had a lot of space to cover. The veining is a warm white and a champagne/taupe color (and like Sweeby said...all those shades). Those were very easy to match in paint and I think towels would be no problem either. ThinkÂvanilla, mushroom, or a subdued, non-yellow taupe. For walls in the powder room we picked a color about halfway between the Rojo base color of salmon, and the light trim color. It is called "Mesa" Âhard to describe the color, but it is perfect. I think Rojo would make a beautiful countertop. If it were me, though, for a counter I would opt for narrow veins to keep it from looking too busy for a small area.

Great ideas for wall colors and accent colors! Even my husband agrees now that Rojo vanity countertops would look awesome! Thanks for the encouragement! ....Now we'll just have to make sure that we can fit it in the budget. I really don't know how much it is going to run. I'm crossing my fingers that we can make it work though!

We stumbled across Rojo vanities in Lee Lighting in Arlington, Texas. We were able to see them installed. One fabricator told me that I was a little crazy to want Rojo in the bathroom, as it is extremely delicate. He said it is softer than other marbles and easier to stain as well.

I must say that there was some obvious discoloration in both the men's and women's vanities at this lighting store. Mostly around the sink. We asked the sales peole how long the store has been there -- 3 years. That isn't very long! The employee we asked said that the discoloration was from the cleaning lady who used the wrong chemicals on it. She said that she has also ruined some flooring by not using marble/granite specific cleaner.

If anyone has any comments to special, extreme care that will be needed, please advise! We are still pursuing this route for the tub deck and the vanity top.

I think Emperador Dark is incredibly stunning. But I like dramatic marbles. Did you make a decision, and if so any pics?

I have a similar marble, Rosso Verona, as my kitchen island top. Yes, it's delicate, it etched right away, and it has chipped in the places that are we a lot by the faucet. I love the color tone and beauty but after only 2 years I don't think I would do it again. If you go ahead, the paint color Desert Tan by Benjamin Moore looks super with it.

Sue B - When you are facing the windows in your kitchen, is there another room to the left or is there another wall to the kitchen? I noticed your soffits and was wondering how they "end" if it goes into another room. I'm planning to open my kitchen up into the adjoining room and am trying to figure out what to do with the end of the soffit, which will not run into the other room. There will be windows under the soffit, like yours and no wall cabinets on that wall. By the way, very pretty kitchen! (Sorry OP, if I'm getting off topic!)

Bill - Is that Light Emperador in the last two photos and is that it mixed in with the Dark in the first two photos? They are just beautiful.
