Nora....your setting sounds like mine with the wren house and the hummingbirds. I just did put my feeder out and hadn't seen any, until you said you did, and I was standing out there and seen them also. Ofcourse we haven't been home, and I wasn't aware they had already started to come. One of them has a red throat. I just love to sit out there but lately but it has been chilly,the weather hasn't been to good the last week. We were having 80 degree weather, just wonder where spring went to.

Frankfort is close and I will be thinking of you being in this territory. Kentucky is beautiful this time of year and I hope you enjoy all the scenery as well as your family and helping them get the move done. It is always such a pleasure to get to see your kids and their family....right now I have my little grandaughter spending the night. They could almost live with Grandma, as they live just up the street from us.

We had planned to bring the R.V. home but think now we will just leave it put until he can get on around Louisville which then he can drive. We want to spend the summer at home, but with his line of work, it is on the road most of the time.

So your sister is watching your Mother and Dad now that you are gone huh? I say let sis get a dose of what you do all the time, altho it should be (a want to) to visit with her mother and enjoy her last years. When they are gone, then it is to late. THey should cherish what they can do with them now.

Well I hope you enjoy your stay with the family and that they get settled soon. I think they will enjoy Kentucky and Frankfort is a nice place. You take care and don't grow to many tomatoes this year, if so ship me a pound or two, along with some good corn on the cob... Friends....Hugs Gabby

Hello Gabby and Breezy, We made our trip and daughter and family are settled in.....we helped unpack some....I helped with keeping the kids busy...we took a trip to Sonic and the Dollar Store...they loved that....my Dad sent them each $5 to spend and they so enjoyed picking out their toys. They have a beautiful home with a big yard in a subdivison and they are the last house on the street. I plan on going back the last part of this month....Melanie will be out of college and she and I are going to help Sis finish up things. All went well here at home while I was gone....Mom has had good days....and Dad said that my sister said she really enjoyed her time with them. Hope all is well with you all.

Breezy, You have been in my thoughts and prayers...how are things going for you. Is your weather o.k.and are you going to plant a garden? God Bless you both. Hello Nora, I garden in Hyattsville, too. Can't speak from experience to differences between this area and NJ, but I can say that we have a nice long fall gardening season that you can take advantage of this year. Our first frost is usually around Halloween, and the first hard freeze not until mid-November. I often have tomatoes and zinnias still producing in November, and fall vegetables into December. So if I were in your position, I'd use July and August to get ready for Sept and October, as well as for next spring. Get a soil test and prepare one bed as a fall garden/nursery bed as soon as you can. The local soil is generally clay-ey and on the acidic side, but makes good garden dirt if amended. A locally made compost called Leaf-Gro is readily available by the truckload and inexpensive. Get a few yards or a whole truckload and start digging. Meanwhile, start seeds of perennials and fall-growing edibles in pots outdoors or, for cool-season vegetables, under lights indoors. (You can grow a lot of seedlings under a 4-foot 2-bulb fluourescent shoplight in the basement.) Come September, plant out your veg starts and direct seed fall crops into your new bed. After harvesting the vegetables, move the perennials seedlings into the same bed to winter over. While this is going on, you can also work on other beds to get them ready for spring. Hello Dear Friends, Yes I haven't been on much....just busy with one thing are another....thought things would maybe slow down when I "retired"...but as I am sure all know that just don't really happen.LOL I have moments when I think...how did I do everything and work!! Last week I did fill in Mon and Wed. at the florist...but Fri. I went in and about 8 got a call from Susan and she said Mom had a fever...I had gone in to give Mom a kiss before I left and thought she felt warm..but often she does feel warm...well to make a long story short I called the doctor and they said for us to take her in to the E.R...we had been having trouble with Mom coughing while we fed her...and finding that even with us giving liquid with thicket her diapers were not wet...we were at the E. R. until 6.30...they ran all kinds of tests...they gave Mom a antiboctic...doctor was so very kind...told us that we had caught it at the beginning but that Mom had started getting sick..said that this was just the beginning and he had talked with Mom's doctor at length...he ordered Hospice. We brought Mom home and Hospice came Sat. to talk with us. My sweet little Dad sat and listen and understood...he said only God knew when it was time for her to go home..but that he wanted her to die at home. We talked about how blessed we are...and cried...we talked about honoring Mom's wishes...and cried...we talked about loving her and enjoying each day we have...and cried...we talked about none of us knowing that we have that next day...and cried...we talked about knowing that when death does comes for any of us that we will be together again with Jesus. We agreed to take each day and not dwell on what is to come....my sister was here with us as we talked with hospice...I think that maybe she has finally realized...for me it is such a comfort to know that Hospice will be here. Mom had a good day today....eating went well...she has been talking....most of it we can't understand but at times we can. She walked around a little with help...I know that we will have good days and bad...Breezy...how true your words of wisdom...we are in His hands and He is faithful...He will sustain us. Your heart hurts...you long for them to not be in pain...with hospice they will help us make sure that Mom will not suffer....please keep us in your prayers. My daughter and family are coming this week-end from Ky...my daughter in Memphis is coming...we will all be together....the house will be full...that will bring joy to Mom and Dad. oh Nora, i feel so bad for you and your dad!and your right, you both need to be together and also your time alone to grieve!! thanks for asking about us, its been like a zoo around here lately, a lot going on!!!! Dh had to have a bunch of tests done to see where the cancer is, if spreading etc. went to dr on Monday, we knew they found a spot or something on his 11th rib, so had to have MRI done on it on TUes to have a closer look, haven';t heard the results of that yet, but might have to have radiation again on that the dr said, but we'll wait for the results. otherwise we were realy surprised that he doesn't have other spots or hasn't spread other than that rib, if thats what it is! he has a lot more pain in hips and legs, etc, but glad for the results he did get!! God is Good! our SIL Darren, had to have his testicle and cord removed last Friday. he's always had problems, but also had a complicated cyst on it too, dr had to make a cut up where a woman's ovary would be, its about 3 or 4" long, but it was as big as an orange the dr said, an he wanted it to come out whole incase it is cancer.Darren's been having a lot of problems with swelling an infection, was to er on Sunday night they wouldn't call dr, for him to see his dr the next day. the dr wasn't to happy they didn't call him!! changed his antibotic, and increased pain meds, but having more problems this morning, DD called the dr but he was in IN at a conference, said he could go to the ER and have another ultrasound done,but we know how our ER is! so he has to go see the dr tomorrow before noon! the dr usually uts a drain in but he didn't incase its cancer, doesn't want air to get to it, etc. pray its not cancer, bad enough he won't have any paychecks coming in! think he is a nervous wreck that it might be cancer!which is understandable! DGD K has been sick since Sat,coughs, throwing up, etc DD tok her to the ER last night, of course there everything is a upper respitory infection, her throat is really red, but didn't give her anything to take. i do't think she's thrown up today though, but wonder if some of it might be her nerves too, as they go to court the 2nd of Aug, about Darren adopting K!! DD is doing pretty good, hands full with her DH and K and the other 2 kids!DD starts LPN courses at Vo-tech the 1st of Aug! have to miss the 2nd day due to the court thing! I'm having a lot of problems with my neck and hand, been going to chiropractor to see if he can help, but hasn't made much difference. He says i have a double whammy, my neck has a herniated disc,degenerative disc and joint disease,spurring, something else but forget with it is right now, both my sisters have the same thing, only theirs affects their right hand!and I also have carpal tunnel in left hand. from below my elbow and whole hand will jsut start tingling like going to sleep,very annoying!!I would have thought i'd have it in right hand since that is the one i use the most and run mouse with!! so go to a specialst the 1st going to start there seeing about the hand. I also had to have a DnC done again an couple of months ago, but no cancer. go in Sept for another ultrasound on uterus. so now aren't you sorry you asked!! LOL so say a prayer for all of us too. never a dull moment around here! the other DGKs and our DS are doing ok though, so thats good! thanks for the prayers! take care and God bless! DianePA

Good to hear from you. Yes it is the hardest for my dear sweet Dad. He has not been feeling well...the heat and his blood pressure has been low...it is usually high...taking him for doctors visit and try to get him doing better. He is staying in out of this heat. Glad to hear your violets are doing well. I would love to come out for a visit....wouldn't it be nice if we could spend sometime on the beach....something to think about and maybe plan for next summer!!! Again good to hear from you. Nora

Hi Nora! How delightful that your "job" was to keep the kids busy! :) I'm so happy for you and your family. May God continue to bless their marriage and children. The home sounds lovely. So glad all went well for your parents and sister. God give you strength as you help out at the florists - Mother's Day and the prom at the same time!!! That's a lot of work. I've been busy doing things with my sisters. Mowed 3/4 of the yard yesterday; hope to finish it today. We had a bad frost last night. It may have damaged my lupines. I love them so much, but I've lost most of them over the years... I pray it didn't harm any farmer's crop. I haven't planted anything yet. My parsley is coming up beautifully from last year, but I'll have to plant more because it goes to seed so fast. I'll put in a few tomatos, and plant some beets... That's about all... I have a lot of work to do on my house this summer. Hey, Gabby! I always enjoy reading your posts. Have a blessed day. ~breezy

Hello Breezy, So good to hear from you. You are always in my prayers....we have had a cool spring...Dad's tomatoe plants are really not looking very good...several times we have had to cover them because of cold weather. Hope they come along and do good. I love lupines...have never planted them....need to try them. We also need to do alot of work around this house...since I am not working the plans are for me to get some of those things done...in my younger days I use to tackle anything but seems as I get older...that is not the case....LOL Right now it seems that I have stayed busy working in the yard and just doing things with Mom and Dad. Just wanted to share with you that after I got home last night on the table was my Mother's Day gift from my dear husband....a lovely book about Mothers....with scriptures and a beautiful necklace with 3 shapes...THE TRINTY....GOD THE FATHER,SON AND HOLY SPIRIT. A blessed reminder to wear near my heart. He is such a wonderful man and loves the Lord. Take care and God Bless You. Nora

Oh, Nora, what beautiful gifts from your sweet husband! It pays to serve Jesus, doesn't it... Money can't buy the precious relationship you have with your dear family. What a difference His love makes in our hearts. It may take some time, but God can bless your dad's tomato plants and cause them to produce abundantly even if they don't grow to their normal size. He did that for a scrawny one I almost pulled out one summer. It never grew very large but eventually became loaded with the sweetest tomatoes of the whole crop! :) My strength isn't what it used to be, either, Nora... I look back and shake my head in wonder when I think of lifting Mother in and out of everything for three years. We CAN do all things through Christ. He gives us what we need when we need it. I did my hedge and finished the yard. The pollen in the springtime causes my allergies to flare up big time. I think that's the hardest part of working outside right now for me! :) I know you're grateful to have your precious mother another Mother's Day... May God's peace, grace, and sweetness fill you to overflowing as you minister to your dear parents and family.

Hi Gabby! I'm glad to hear that you and your DH are slowly adjusting to life without Lara. I pray things work out for your hubby so that you won't have to travel as much and will be able to enjoy your beautiful home. I had to have my only tree cut down last fall, so I'm not getting as many birds this spring. I do have one bird feeder and get to enjoy them there. ~breezy

Breezy....thanks so much for thinking of us and the little prayer.You are a blessed friend and I hope you are enjoying the nice weather, and spring. We do love to watch the birds and this morning were on the bottom deck which adjoins the woods and we have a little bird house, like the old hillbilly birdhouse with a little front porch and a little wren has made a nest in there. We loved watching him, and singing . It is so enjoyable to be home and be able to do that. Take care Breezy and enjoy the summer!!! Hugs

Nora...What a blessing you have now that u can spend time at home,and with the family...retirement is lovely isn't it? I so wish we could stay at home but what days we are we enjoy it so well. I was telling Breezy we were on the bottom deck this morning watching a little wren make a nest and singing. I am enjoying Mothers Day and I hope all of you the very best and enjoymnet with your families.

I thought it would have been a good "idea" to have sent a balloon sailing with a card on it to Lara....we miss her this day. All take care....many hugs to you all.

Husband made me two Adriondack chairs and we are painting them white...I just love them. HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!!!!
