From Kuffel Creek: Cripp's Pink Australia, 1979 Cripp's Pink apples that are grown to certain quality standards are marketed under the Pink Lady⢠trademarked name. A cross between Lady Williams and Golden Delicious, it is a favorite in supermarkets because of it's dense, crisp juicy flesh and sweet-tart flavor. It is not bothered in the least by hot weather and even excels in Las Vegas and Phoenix, once considered apple graveyards because of their intense heat. Cripp's Pink apples that have been in storage a while will often have seeds inside that are already sprouted, useful for folks trying to start their own rootstocks from seed. It ripens late (November-December) and is a good companion for Fuji. I've given it short-shrift in the past because the ones in the supermarket are decent, but this year I've really enjoyed ours off the tree, and the ones grown in the mountains have been mind-blowing. Tested good for Southern California. The patent expired in 2010, and so we will now be able to sell it. It ripens very late in the season, and needs a long hot season to be its best. It is considered low-chill and sets fruit very reliably, even when a tiny tree, and is very sun and heat resistant. The flavor is a pleasing sweet-tart and the texture is firm. It has a red skin on a yellow background. The patent expires November of 2013 and so we'll be shipping in spring of 2014. Thank you seil and kentstar! Kentstar, my Sweet Autumn Clematis did not come back so I dug it up and threw it away. I saw another beautiful one at the same nursery where my neighbor had bought it for me. I don't have anyplace to plant one now. How is yours doing? It is very exciting to see a first bloom on any plant! I have a hoya (anyone here heard of them?) that's going to bloom for the very first time and it is the very first one I got cuttings of. I planted one of these...several years ago and most likely a vivid color..It is now ginormous (6-7ft tall and at least 10-12' or more wide. I've had to move a couple plants and probably more... It has lost it's color..it's now primarily green and yellow with small hints of color. I can't remember what color I got but it wasn't yellow! Probably a wild pink or maroon. I just came across a review somewhere that says they do loose their color once they get big!! Damn it...here it is a huge architectural piece in the front of my house with out the color I expected..so be warned..If I remember correctly they loose the color when allowed to be themselves and grow wild..but not in pots. I live in Oregon south of Portland and everything grows big here.

I can't really speak to your situation but I can sympathize. I work with dementia in an assisted living facility. The thing to remember is to keep Mom safe while she does her thing...whatever the thing of the moment is. In my facility they have activity centers, similar to what you see in preschools but with age appropriate items. Interactive themed items that people can come and go and use for stimulation...there is an old typewriter and some paper...some wood blocks and sandpaper...stuff like that...stuff to engage mom while she is restless. What comes to mind is maybe a shelf with random items that she can shop from, and a bag to carry it in...when she is done put it all back on the shelf. Make sure to LOCK doors if she tends to go outside, and make sure your local 911 has current info and photo if she were to get lost. Within the home you might??? be able to manipulate lighting to minimize this sundowning.
