Chocolate walls....need help with accessories!

We are building and are going to use chocolate (french press-BM) paint in our bathroom with china white trim and beaded board on lower portion. I will be using oil rubbed bronze faucet and shower fixtures(tiled shower w/off white tile) and clawfoot tub w/oil rubbed bronze feet. I need help with a mirror to go above old pine dresser converted to vanity and sconces to go on either side of mirror. I found a mirror--aged white tin framed mirror. What finish on sconces...thanks so much.

That sound very pretty. I would go with polished silver or brushed nickel. Both would look very pretty with what you've described.

Thank you lukkiirish...I love both of those, but felt since I'm using oil rubbed bronze(very dark brown)for faucets and shower head, that those finishes weren't an option. I wish I could see some pics. of bathrooms with brown walls. that would help me!!!

Njdjs, The gallon-sized baggies are a good idea. Debra, I can bring her seeds of lots of things.....most of the heirloom winter squash and melons do best when direct-seeded. I have a Texas Indian Moschata that should be perfect for her research. I am bringing lots of the purple-flowered Angel's Trumpets. They reseeded prolifically in three different large pots that had the plants in them last year, so I have a lot. I'm not sure if any of the Angel Trumpet sprouts I have are the yellow, pink or white-flowered ones-now that they are larger and I can see the leaf shape, they all look purple. When it stops raining, I'll go out to the garden and see if they white daturas there have sprouted. They usually pop up about the last week of April and I haven't seen any yet, but there might be some lurking underneath the mulch. Next fall, I'll start pink, white and yellow angel's trumpets from cuttings and grow them inside so I'll have them for next spring's swap. So, everyone can get purple ones this year but may have to wait until next year for the other colors. I'm bringing some tomatoes, but don't which ones yet. Usually I have all mine in the ground by now and know exactly which ones are "left over". This year there are barely any in the ground, so I'll just have to look at them this afternoon and decide who stays and who goes. I'm bringing a few extra muskmelon (cantaloupe) and squash plants--common hybrids. I haven't planted any of the heirlooms yet since it has stayed so cold. I'm bringing a few Malva 'Zebrina' which have just about replaced my hollyhocks this year since they are so much more vigorous and quick to come out of dormancy in early spring. I'm bringing 4 O'Clocks too. They are a great plant--they won't die and you can't kill them. : ) On top of that they are gorgeous and very fragrant in the evenings. I've also got paper products covered and plasticware and Okiegarden is bringing cups. I know Lynn has the nametags covered, someone is bringing drinks, a lot of folks are bringing food, a couple of people are bringing doorprizes, and a lot of us are bringing plants. Can anyone think of anything else we might be forgetting? It looks like rain, so bring your a windbreaker, raincoat, jacket etc. Oh, and George is bringing his new Lee Valley tools with their ash handles for "show and tell". Wait until you see the quality of these tools--you'll know why I always recommend them. : ) We are less than 24 hours away and I can hardly wait. Dawn

Well, after living with it for a few days, the Peppered Pecan is growing on me. It is a nice rich color. I think once I pull off all the blue tape and get everything up and installed, pictures and towels hung, etc., it will recede into the background. When you are staring at nothing but a wide expanse of wall, you notice any and every perceived flaw with the color. I absolutely love my satiny cream and cafe au lait shower curtain, though. I finally hung it last night and I don't think it would look as good up against a lighter paint color. I also love the way my pale aqua rugs and towels stand out against the color. Can't wait to find more turquoise and aqua accessories to add. I really am falling in love with aqua for some reason!

A lovely space, and the chocolate brown wall is luscious! I know you said you wanted red as your accent color, but I would think in terms of red being a second color - everything else really is brown. For the accent? A deep turquoise or teal - great with the brown, and amazing with red, too. I assume the tv is going over the fireplace. We don’t see the wall opposite the fireplace, but from looking at the kitchen pix, it would seem that the wall is solid on the left side as you look at it, and has a sliding door on the right. I don’t know if you are thinking sectional or separate pieces, so I will just throw some ideas out there. I would look for a piece like this, to put facing the fireplace/tv. thomasville derby sectional, fabrci 1331-40 You could add a leather ottoman if you feel you need a comfy place for feet , or this round copper coffee table. I think this could be really great in there, with the brown and red tones in it, and the curves to work with the rug and chair shapes and balance all the rectangles in the room. tribecca round copper table A sofa table or low cabinet behind the couch with a pair of lamps for lighting there. Then I would put a pair of upholstered swivel chairs on the left of the couch, facing the window, with a lamp/table between them. Perhaps a deep red fabric like this: sutton swivel glider chair, fabric 2622-91 Then over in the corner to the right of the fireplace, I would love to see a big reading chair, floor lamp and side table, perhaps a chair like this, in leather: linden street leather recliner Finally, a rug with all your colors and some great pattern, perhaps this: linden street chunky loop rug, in the aquamarine background On the back wall to the right of the slider, if there is room, you could have a desk and chair, if that would be useful, or perhaps a small table with two chairs for playing games. I don’t know what you are thinking for window treatments, but panels would be nice just for a finished look. If you need privacy you could also consider woven wood blinds. These panels from JCP might be ones to consider: linden chenille panels in henna stripe Then pillows and accents that pull in the reds and turquoise/teal. And of course art, but that is a personal choice.

LOL about the football accessory it is an excellent representation of our family. If only there were two lacrosse sticks on top of the island, it would have been perfect. I do love my cabinets, thank you for agreeing they are pretty :) The pictures really don't do them justice, they just glow. Rhome, I never thought about that wall as being framed in wood, that image gets my brain ticking. I went out and looked for tile this morning and did some soul searching. I was feeling under pressure to make a decision about the stone slab behind stove vs. tile because the fabricators are reviewing the templating today with the slabs to see if there even is enough stone to do it. I was contemplating the stone slab mostly so that I could be done, I think. I realized that I always planned tile on that wall and that I need to be patient a bit longer and keep true to my vision. So now that I have made the decision not to do the slab, I have breathing room to find the perfect tile as well as to decide where to end it. I am still far from finished, but that's OK.

that sounds like a lovely color combo! Can't wait to see pictures. I think it's fine to mix bathroom fixture finishes. My own preference is to keep all the undertones either warm or cool. I'm assuming the bronze has a warm undertone so polished nickel would be very pretty, perhaps even brass. Maybe you could find a sconce that accepts shades to bring in a little pattern to the room. I'm sorry nc cowgirl, I read that in your post and it didn't even register. The brown on brown for the lighting might be...well too much brown. The walls in our little powder room were brown when we moved in, it wasn't a good match for the space, but the fixtures are all chrome, which we kept. I realize you can't post a picture of the bathroom, but could you post a couple of links to lighting that you have in mind so far or that you at least like?

Thank you all very much! I've just been browsing...I've always loved the oil rubbed bronze fixtures and since floor and shower tile are off white and the beadboard will be a backdrop for vanity, I thought "I'll go with that finish"...even the clawfoot tub will have ORB feet..then I fell in love with pics of bathrooms with brown walls...oh, no! I have seen baths in which different finishes were used! I should be smart and just go with chrome or nickel. I guess I'll work it out in the wash!

IMO Chrome will be too bright and modern with what you have selected. Polished or brushed nickel would be nice if you want go more towards silver..

You could do copper sconces. Copper and ORB look really pretty together.

I'd like to see a bit of contrast between the lighting fixture and the wall. If the walls are dark chocolate, then I agree that nickel sconces would look nice.

I'm a bit opposite from you in my master, we have lighter beige-tan walls, so we have dark ORB sconces. The sink faucet below the ORB sconces is polished nickel. The mirror frame above the sink, and between the sconces, I painted that a chocolate brown to match the color of the ORB sconces.

If you want to hide the sconces then have them coordinate with the wall color. ORB sconces and chocolate brown walls. If you want them to stand out, have them contrast with the wall color.

In your case with your mirror being "aged tin", maybe you could coordinate the sconce finish with the mirror frame? Pewter sconces?

Tough to say without seeing the actual finishes and the style of the fixtures, but check out the options and go with your gut. If your gut says matchy-match then there you go. If you find you prefer a mix of various finishes, then feel confident to travel that design path.

I have BM Navajo brown and BM ?MOnroe(from memory) in my two bathrooms. I went with Goldenlighting.com's Alante collection vanity light. It is described as a golden pecan and it is gorgeous!! For the basement I went with Maxim fremont in platinum dusk. I think they really go well with my ORB and seperate brushed bronze Kohler faucets...

Try doing a Google search on "all glass sconces" and see if you like any of what you see. Maybe you can find something you like that has little or no visible metal. I've seen a few in both traditional and contemporary styles.

sounds like a lovely space
may i suggest - a porcelain white-like sconce and or that you check out the vintage-repro items at Rejuvenation.com(hi qual...have installed 10 of their things indoor and out and my fussy electrician commented on them). Not trying to advertise for them but as a satisfied customer, that was what came to mind reading your description. I've used Detroit, York and Ankeany of their line. The swing arm sconce lamp ("Ontario") is something i am considering for one of our bathrooms.
