Just Finished Bathroom Remodel (Thank You; Third Time's a Charm)
Comments (33)Kevin, when we built our house (going on 13 years), we used corian in the bathroom and I love the integrated sink of corian. So easy to clean that sink. But now we're thinking of a minor re-model with new mirrors, granite countertops, fixtures and of course the sinks will have to be replaced. Still trying to decide about replacing the flooring as we already have warm tiles and I like the flooring ok. The Archer sink is one I've looked at. We have Kohler faucets now and they are still perfect but I will replace just because it's wise to do so with something used as much as our MB fixtures. I'm still leary of ceramic sinks as I remember the days of old chipped ceramic. The thoughts make me shudder sometimes. I think that's one reason I keep putting off this project. I'll be back on here one day advice-seeking for real!...See MoreOT--Shower design help (sorry, sorry)
Comments (31)We redid our master bathroom 2.5 years ago so I feel qualified to weigh in and ditto some of what other people have already said. We did something kind of like a pony wall but shower - it is just a bench seat in the shower that the glass then sits on top of. See photos below. In general here are some of my other tidbits of advice: 1. Do radiant heat flooring. We live in Atlanta and it doesn't even get all the cold here but I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it in the winter time. And it really isn't all that expensive. We did small 2x2'' tiles on the shower floor and I like the variation it gives. Haven't had a problem with cleaning those - however, I also did 4x4 on the side of the bench and the grout between those can get grimy. 3. Along the same lines - do NOT do tile on top of the pony wall or the ledge where the shower glass will sit. We did and this is the one of only two things I would change about our remodel. The grout lines under the shower glass door get slimy. Do one solid piece of granite, corian, or cultured marble. We did the top of our bench seat in the shower cultured granite and it works great. Cheaper than other options but still looks nice. A remant piece of granite would have done the trick too. (On a side note, the other change I wish I had done was 4 rectangular pieces of cultured granite around the drop in tub instead of tile for the same reason more or less. I priced it out for one giant piece but you pay for the part that is cut out for the tub and it was ridiculous. I just didn't even think through doing it with 4 small pieces.) 3. If you are doing two shower heads, which I'd recommend, put both controllers on the same side, near the door. This way, you don't get wet when you turn on the "far" controller. 4. We did a small 28'' glass door which is slightly smaller than what most people do but it is perfect. 4. Lastly, ditto on the two shampoo niches. We have "his and hers" which means I can have 5 bottles of shampoo in my niche without annoying my husband. Hope that helps. Apparently I need to go check out the bathroom forum side and give my advice via expertise over there....See MoreShower tray comparison: Onyx Collections vs Porcelanosa Krion
Comments (9)Here is my search for cast iron. the Bellwether has a more modern look than the standard fare. https://www.us.kohler.com/us/browse/bathroom-showering-shower-bases/_/N-2d8rZ1z13vg7?Nr=AND%28product.language%3AEnglish%2CP_market%3AKPNASite%29 I have the 5x3' salient center drain pan and I love it. Comes in a lot of colors. I see that the other 5' lengths don't come as wide which is a shame, cause the 36" width is nice....See MoreTrying to come up with ideas on what to do with our tiny master bath
Comments (7)Appreciate everyone's inputs. Main level laundry is not possible with our floorplan. And impractical for us. Laundry is currently in the basement level. So why wouldn't you want to take your clothes off and throw em directly into the laundry. Wash/dry. Fold and put directly into closet that's right there. Why you would want to take them down two sets of stairs is beyond me. Thank you calidesign for you opinion on the bathroom doors. Completely forgot about swing factor and how that'll affect the space. We planned on doing a pocket door for the master closet but didn't think about the entry door into the bathroom. Might looking into sliding doors for the laundry instead as well. So appreciate the positive input....See MoreRelated Professionals
