Reasonably Priced 5ft Soaking Tub Recommendations?? Pic!
Comments (12)We are remodeling two bathrooms. Looked at the Princeton Americast (also at Lowe's) for our daughters' bath - it does feel like a solidly built tub. May, in the end, just refinish the turquoise tub that came with the house. It looks brand new but we don't care for the color. For our master bath, we are looking for a freestanding, pedestal tub. Fell in love with a Victoria and Albert's tub at a local bath store but it is $$$$. Saw something similar online - made of a composite resin called Aquastone. Price is much less than the V&A tub and it is only available online (can't sit in it before ordering!). Have any of you heard of the manufacturer - the Aquatica group? Or this material? Could only find a few reviews online (which makes me rather nervous!) Thanks....See MoreDuravit Tubs Blue Moon Pool?
Comments (5)I don't think we really are much for stretching out and floating. The 55" round tub is the same basic size as our existing Japanese soaker style whirl tub ( 27" deep and fully recessed) The Blue Moon is 22" (to overflow) so it is deeper than a standard tub, which DH wants. We both prefer more upright seating. We don't really use the tub for daily baths- it is more of a spa feature used after the sauna and steam. I'm just curious about how the Blue Moon actually works and if anyone knows much about the quality of Duravit whirlpools. They win all sorts of applause for design, but I never hear if the baths are as loved by homeowners as they are by interior decorators, you know. I have a couple of odd questions. While my husband uses the whirl features, I often use our existing tub more as a soaker, often with bubble bath or something. I sometimes crave quiet over massage. We are thinking about getting the combi (air+whirl) tub... it has 24 air jets in the floor. I'm wondering if it is uncomfortable to sit on the jets, if they are not in use... They seem to have small nozzles, not just holes like some air tubs. That sort of stuff. I'm just curious about quirks. Thanks for thinking about it! I talked to Duravit and the only showroom near me (6 hours away!) that has a Blue Moon is in Austin, TX... and they only have the larger, outdoor version. If anyone knows anything about ANY Duravit tub system, please chime in! Stephanie...See More60 inch air tubs
Comments (19)Wanted to say thanks to all who posted here and raised other perspectives, offered suggestions and in general made me think about things I probably had not thought of before. Very helpful and very appreciated. I managed to go out and see some empty tubs today but even that helped me see some things. At this point I am going to visit with my contractor to see if there is any reasonable way to fit a 66 inch tub into the bathroom. I am 6 ft 1 and while I can fit inside the 60 inch it is an easier fit to go one size up. Sometimes seeing is helpful! My list is now fairly short: Kohler Underscore Aquatic Serenity 35 Mirabelle Edenton 36x66 or 36x60 I had thought about the MTI Andrea 11 but pricing there starts to climb rapidly and there just comes a point where I have to say "enough". If I spent 60 minutes every day in the tub an in line heater, arm rests etc might be a good idea. One thing about the Serenity that was good to see is how high and wide the borde rof tub is. Definitely will require a long reaching faucet and I wonder if climbing out an dover will be difficult (tub I saw today was not yet set up in its box) The Aquatic certainly looked ok. As did the Mirabelle (lowest price option). I did not see the Edenton but one similar. Overall I am probably somewhat partial to the Kohler underscore "look" but then it wa salso undermounted. I do prefer an under mount appearance but not sure I want to go there. Seems more involved for the installation. I also need to see what the 240V aspects will cost for the install (not sure I have space in breaker box). Still deciding but the list is very much smaller now! Water depth on all of these tubs is more than deep enough.. 17.5 to almost 19 inches to overflow....See MoreSearching for the perfect soaking tub
Comments (5)It will cost less to use if you do bathe together, as an average adult displaces about 15 gallons of water in a tub, so you wouldn't use much more water than one person in a small 60" tub. But yes, be sure you have an ample hot water supply to fill your tub. Especially in the winter in cold climates where the unheated water it mixes with is near freezing, a modestly-sized tank will struggle to fill a deeper tub. You may need to turn up the temperature on your water heater (and install anti-scalding devices at the faucets and showers unless you have thermostatic valves), upsize the water heater, or go tankless....See Moreavossohouse
