LOL. I had to recheck to see if I wrote your post. I, too, had a short hair style for many years. As we all do from time to time, I decided...for the umpteenth time...to let it grow. This time, however, I periodically went to a modestly priced salon and had it shaped. It made quite a difference and I persisted in letting it grow.

Eventually I had to keep removing the hair from my mouth, etc. just as you've mentioned. I had the stylist cut it shorter, but not short like I used to wear it. I like this shorter âÂÂlongâ style much better. It looks much perkier - definitely needed at my age - than having long strands curling under my chin.

I also found I preferred my hair after I'd slept on it - it isn't as fly away on the sides. Did a little research on hair products and found that if I purchased those which have hydrating in their name, and leave the conditioner on for one minute before gently rinsing, the fly aways were gone.

I think a low ponytail on the back of the neck with a pretty bow or similar is attractive. But that's means the face is really front and center, perhaps not as desirable as we age. Since you mention not wanting to wear yours in a pony tail, maybe you need to consider a trim to get some "perk" back..

I recall a funny essay Erma Bombeck wrote many years ago about her quest to grow long hair. I tried to find it online but wasn't successful. You and I, and probably many others, could relate.

2. Tangling & knotting way too much
Get a Tange Teezer or any type of detangling brush. It will change your life, seriously.

3. Hard to roll in curling iron

4. All over the place when sleeping
I always braid it, put it in a bun, whatever. Otherwise my DH will sleep on it.

The rest just come with long hair :)

I have been fighting cancer for 3 years, before that, I always have had long hair and really don't look good with short hair! Well you know what I look worse bald LOL.I probably won't have enough time for my hair to get long again. Yes I bought wigs, but wigs are not your own hair and not as comfortable!
I guess I am trying to say : I don't know how old the rest of you are or your how good you are medically, but if you like your hair long do it now, non of us are going to get any younger. Enjoy while you can ! !

Hi!! I have to ask....but about how old are you? I never looked great with my dishwater blond hair long, but then, about in my mid to late 40's, it turned silver...not wire-y, but straight and a really pretty color with really ash (brown) hair underneath (although I still swear I am blonde) AND people on the street and in restaurants and stores, complete strangers, would stop me and compliment me on it. YES...it gets to a point where I cut it off (every 2 years like clockwork and I donate a 10-15" ponytail to charities that make wigs for older people with cancer).

I put it in a low pony tail for sleeping (so my neck doesn't hurt from the "knot")

When it starts getting caught in the car door that's a good sign it's time for a hair cut

Learn a cute style, like a pony tail that you pull through, it becomes a "flip" and lays close to your neck.

I use a good detangler, leave-in....every time I wash my hair.

I think you think you are losing more hair because it's longer and you just notice it more. We lose something like 20-50 hairs a day! (personally, I think I shed more than that).

If you could grow it out with the goal of donating 10+", then every couple of years you can start fresh. Remember, it's always going to go through an awkward stage. The nice thing about hair is that it will grow back!! You can change your mind over and over.

Thanks for all the info ladies. Its been so many years since I had this long hair I forgot just how aggravating it can be. I'm 65, and my hair grows very slow, I'd be 80 before I could donate hair LOL. My other problem is ..... my hands go numb and I can't feel anything in the morning. Long hair actually seems to be easier on my hands but has its other cons.
I'm still thinking on it. No DH anymore, no BF so why should I even worry about it really?

I have never had long hair. Recently I started watching some beauty videos on youtube. These are made by women in their 20's. They all have long hair. One thing I noticed is that people with long hair are constantly touching their hair! I guess I never noticed it before watching the videos.

I got my hair cut yesterday. Its a long bob, I think I like it much better. But.....it being one length I still have some of the same problems.
