Experience with Duravit?

I'm looking at Duravit's 1930s washbasin and toilet for one of the bathrooms in my 1931 house. I don't find their website particularly helpful and I have several questions:

How well do the toilets flush? (I like the Totos' flushing power; any idea how Duravit compares?)

How do those wall-hung toilets work? Can they be combined with regular tanks, or do they have to be used with in-wall tanks?

One Internet vendor says the washbasins can't be used with Kohler faucets. True? If true, why - and are there other restrictions/limitations about hardware that can be used with them?

Their technical drawings do not say how tall pedestal sink set d10005 is when assembled. Anyone know?

I have this Duravit sink in my powder room. I have a Kohler faucet (memoirs stately) on it. I don't know the exact height but I will find out and let you know a little later.

I have a duravit wall hung toilet and a Geberit tank in the wall - the new 4 inch depth unit was used. The in wall system is very different from a traditional toilet and the components are not interchangeable. I like the in wall toilet very much and any future renovations will have this style of toilet.

If I were you I would just call Duravit and ask them if it can be used with Kohler (or whichever) faucets. The only reason I could think of that they couldn't is if the hole area is too deep/thick for the faucet in question. If they say, "It can't be used with some faucets" ask why, and then if it's a dimension/clearance issue you can easily look up the specs of various faucets on line to check.

UPDATE: Duravit got right back to me, *with* a schematic, even, and YES, the doors swing a full 180 degrees, so they can open out as well as fold in! I figured since I saw the Open Space in a US publication, it had to be up to US code. My husband had been concerned that we wouldn't have room to open the doors, but I just measured it out and it would fit, so now I'm thinking the next step would be to try to see one IRL or at least hear from people who have them installed or who have installed them. It's such a new technology I'd really need to hear of dependable, non-leaking (guess there's a big gasket?) installations before I'd feel safe. And *if* it can work, it would be so wonderful to have the extra open space so we don't have to feel crowded in in that tiny space!

Duravit Tubs Blue Moon Pool?

I don't think we really are much for stretching out and floating. The 55" round tub is the same basic size as our existing Japanese soaker style whirl tub ( 27" deep and fully recessed) The Blue Moon is 22" (to overflow) so it is deeper than a standard tub, which DH wants. We both prefer more upright seating. We don't really use the tub for daily baths- it is more of a spa feature used after the sauna and steam. I'm just curious about how the Blue Moon actually works and if anyone knows much about the quality of Duravit whirlpools. They win all sorts of applause for design, but I never hear if the baths are as loved by homeowners as they are by interior decorators, you know. I have a couple of odd questions. While my husband uses the whirl features, I often use our existing tub more as a soaker, often with bubble bath or something. I sometimes crave quiet over massage. We are thinking about getting the combi (air+whirl) tub... it has 24 air jets in the floor. I'm wondering if it is uncomfortable to sit on the jets, if they are not in use... They seem to have small nozzles, not just holes like some air tubs. That sort of stuff. I'm just curious about quirks. Thanks for thinking about it! I talked to Duravit and the only showroom near me (6 hours away!) that has a Blue Moon is in Austin, TX... and they only have the larger, outdoor version. Does anyone have experience with the Duravit shower bases? We are remodeling our master bath and want a surface easier to maintain than tile. We are thinking of the Duravit P3 or Stonetto. Thanks for your input.

Catherine: Thanks a lot for the info about the wall-hung toilet. What in particular is it you like about the system as opposed to a traditional toilet?

I like the wall hung for many reasons. In no particular order, some of the benefits include:

1) being able to decide how high to place the bowl,
2) easy to clean the floor with nothing under it,
3) it takes up less space - protrudes into the room about 20" depending on which bowl you choose,
4) quiet,
5) personal opinion - looks pretty cool.

All for about the same price as a regular toilet.

i have a Duravit wall hung bowl on a Geberit wall carrier.

i have another manufacturer's wall hung bowl on a Geberit wall carrier, too. I like the Duravit more, because it flushes better and quieter.

Hi, yes, I measured it. It's about 33 3/4 inches tall and about 19"wide. Yes, I love it. It's petite enough to fit in my very, very tiny powder room. I looked high and low for something that was small enough to fit but still have a nice classic style that I was looking for. HTH
