I paid less than retail for every piece.

I do have a upcoming purchase. My old Kenmore DW was reused my from our old kitchen because it was only two years old at the time. The thing is crappy. It doesn't clean well, even when I've pre-scraped so I have do a lot of rinsing and scrubbing. Plus, the thing is loud. I run it at least twice a day so I hear it a lot. Not sure which brand I'll choose next--KA or Miele. I was considering Bosch, but am so disgusted by their mistreatment and fraudulent use of Julia Child's image that I cannot give my money to Bosch/Thermador. I don't really want to cough up the cash for a Miele, but think it would probably be a better unit. I did like the KA I used in the past.

Poor Susan! What nasty critters. I read somewhere that SVB's range ends at the Continental Divide. We're 40-50 miles on the wrong side of that line, so I suppose the stinkers will come calling one day. It sounds like Brewguy's Jack Be Littles and Rodent's gourds are winners this year. Hopefully a truck load of Hubbards and WBPPs will welcome Howden back. I think the plants will only keep as many fruits as they can support. I don't know for sure, but I wouldn't expect more than 1 or 2, possibly 3 at the outside, per vine. I don't know about growth of the vine per day either. A fellow at work had his pumpkins try to lock him out of the house, though. Apparently they were sitting harmlessly on the ground when he left in the morning, but by afternoon, the vine had reached up and grabbed hold of the door knob. My own squash season has had a blend of moderate success and utter failure. Fordhook zucchini I did end up direct seeding a hill of these. The female blossoms are just now starting to appear. NOID gold zucchini These have been producing pretty well this year. They have that virus that turns yellow squash green. I can't remember what it's called, but the plants keep on producing. "Neighbor's NOID" These guys are just starting to show female blossoms. They do indeed look to be some sort of zucchini. Patisson Strie Melange scallop This one is a favorite at work. My friend says it looks like something from Disneyland :) Yellow Scallop I directed seeded a few of these at the same time as Fordhook. It's quite a ways behind, but it's also not in as good of a spot. More competition, too. Boston Marrow I'm embarrassed to say how many of these poor guys (girls, actually) I snapped off by accident when I was hand pollinating. Here's one of the survivors of my tender mercies. Buttercup These guys aborted fruit after fruit after fruit. I vaguely remember it doing that last year, too. It's finally decided to stop that. "Faux Buttercup"This plant came from the same seed packet as the Buttercup above. The seeds were from a trade, but the packet was commercial (American Seed Company) and appeared to be sealed. The packet had a whole 3 seeds in it. Two became vining Buttercup. The third is a semi-bush plant with a different type of fruit. Although FB was a little slower about producing female flowers than Buttercup was, since this plant didn't fool around with aborting its fruits the way Buttercup did, FB set fruit a couple weeks earlier than Buttercup. Also, the single vine several times had two and three female blossoms open on the same day. It couldn't support them all. Maybe if it had had a little better spot. Rouge Vif d'Etamps These seeds came from a trade, and I'm pretty sure they aren't Rouge. The vines have yet to produce a female flower. Crown This guy was a little slower to produce a female flower, but, when it did, the fruit grew quickly to what's probably the mature size. Gold Nugget Did not germinate. Hubbard, Blue Seed from a trade. Two different types of fruit. Although I hand pollinated, I have to assume the "pure" seed will have a mix of green and blue since I didn't note if I used a self male or a male from a different Hubbard vine. Jarrahdale This guy took off like it was going to do great things. The two or three vines have gone up and down three or four rows of peppers, beans, cucumbers etc. and escaped to the alley a couple weeks ago as well. Alas. For all the vines and foliage, there are only two fruits. Furthermore, the second fruit looks like it's going soft. I may have given the hill an extra drink of fertilizer by mistake. Sweet Meat As with Crown, these took a little longer to show female blossoms, but the fruit grew really quickly. It's hard to judge the relative sizes from the pics. I should have used something for scale. Anyway, the Sweet Meats are probably 12" in diameter. Cheese-type (possibly Long Island) Yet another seed trade and probably either crossed seed or something else completely. Pretty late setting fruit. It's also up in a tomato cage. I might have to rig a sling for this one. Delicata Has been shy about setting fruit this year. One plant set these two fruits right away. Then something happened, and the other two vines aborted their fruits and haven't set any others. Gill's Golden Pippen This guy has been gratifying to grow. It seemed to want to go vertical, so I gave the vines some tomato spirals to climb. I didn't think about what would happen when they (quickly) reached the top. Now the vines are happily running across the top of the pea trellis. If I had a dead tree or something like that, this variety would be the ideal decoration for it. Maybe next year I'll plant it next to the old TV antennae. Wonder how high it would grow ... Jack Be Little This guy has been fun to grow as well. I guess they're edible. We'll find out :) Melonette Jaspee Vendee What a disappointment! I noted male blossoms on June 25. Female blossom after blossom shriveled once they reached marble size or so. Probably nearly a couple dozen. I noticed this one made it to the blooming stage a few days ago. Hopefully it will stick, and we'll at least get to try it. Spaghetti Two of the three vines I accidentally roasted recovered. One is better than the other and has a two or three fruits. The other only has one fruit. Sweet Dumpling More traded seed. These don't look the way I expected. The vines haven't been very productive either. Winter Luxury Pie These were pretty quick to produce female flowers - and lots of them - but only a few set on. The more I write that, the more I'm thinking the problem is with the grower :) I'll have to do some studying and see if I can do better next year. "Magic Red" (received in trade from a member who bought the squash from a roadside stand) The seeds germinated poorly, and the single plant that survived hasn't been very vigorous. It produced its first female flower quite late and couldn't keep it. It's since produced two more female flowers, but the fruits don't appear to have grown. Don't think this is a repeat. Crown of Thorns gourd Didn't germinate. Any more reports?

Looking younger is a state of mind, not a physical, body. Good food, exercixe, sleep all help, not a specific "beauty product" you buy to rub into your skin. My cousin Marge has beautiful skin, all she uses on it is Ivory soap. She is 75. My Grandmother used to rub Crisco on her face. She's been gone a long time. I'm 55. last year I went into the hospital for some tests. The nurse looked at5 my chart, started freaking out. She said "I must have the wtrong patient. You look 45, not 55". The best compliment I ever got, another woman told me I looked younger than my true age. My husband and my favorite aunt think I'm "pretty". Yeah, both of them!

Hi Trail! The thoughts we have about ourselves & others & events completely shapes our reality, defines our world. Hell, stress, misery, pain, suffering is created by demanding reality be something other than it is. Besides, whatever we resist, persists. That doesn't mean we can't move out of a situation into another. Peace or pain is predicated entirely upon HOW are we going to make the journey. We are stuck in the mud. We don't want to be. So, we needn't stay stuck in the mud because that is "what is." We work to get ourselves out! But what is our state of mind, what thoughts about being stuck are we stimulating as we pull ourselves out? We will be more effective & will suffer much, much less if rather than cursing, blaming, ranting at the mud, we just accept that we're stuck in it & put our energy into getting out of it! It's important to note that thoughts come & go. Any thought that enters the mind is harmless unless...we believe it. It's attachment to a thought that can make us miserable. We can attach to certain thoughts for years, never challenging them or questioning them...for years, for a lifetime! When we suddenly see something differently, the pain is released & we are tranquil. Did anything outside of us change? No. Just our thoughts. Life is internal. Very powerful.

The china we use for everyday use is Finlandia by Churchill. My grandparents turned their old Victorian farmhouse into a small inn during the depression, and took in guests. My grandmother cooked for their boarders, and accrued a large collection of china. When she died, there were vintage collections of brown and white transferware, several sets of Syracuse china, and some lovely glass dishes. I inherited some of these pieces, and my sister has the rest. My favorite is a service for 10 that I use for special occasions, holidays and large family gatherings. That is the Old Ivory "The Hostess" china made by Syracuse in the 1930's. It brings back many fond family memories and I love the colorful vintage pattern. During the winter months when we eat a lot of hearty stews, soups and spaghetti, I prefer to use my antique flow blue pottery, because they have such deep wide bowls and soup plates. Then I'll use either the Burgess & Leigh, NonPareil soup plates, which date back to the mid 1800's, or my Waldorf by New Wharf pottery bowls. I have enough dinner plates and bowls for each pattern to serve 8. This is the Burgess & Leigh Flow Blue, the Waldorf pattern is shown in earlier posts.

Thermador fridge/freezer columns (30 inch/18 inch) with an extra French door Whirlpool fridge in the pantry

If anyone who has commented above can lean me to the best option for my hood please do tell! it will have to be 36inch not 42. And we'll have ext blower.

House came with:
LG fridge/freezer drawer.
GE microwave (I want to replace with a speed oven).
GE profile oven.
Replaced cooktop (they had ge profile with downdraft) with a Bosch induction 500 series.
Washer/dryer are Kenmore and will probably be replaced in the next year or so.
Came with a Bosch dishwasher (not sure which model). We bought an Asko when we planned to initially build, so would replace it (and hope it works!).

There is an exhaust in the ceiling but no real hood. Not sure if we will just leave as is.
Editing to add:
We just bought a Ticor sink, which DH plans to install in the next few weeks. Am still debating about the Blanco culina faucet.

We had a Magic Chef suite from 1988, not sure who makes them, but probably original to the house.

We have purchased in the last year as they died:
GE Profile induction range
GE Profile DW, SS tub
GE Profile FD bottom freezer fridge, water in door

To do in May:
Replace OTR MW with Kobe hood, currently in my living room waiting
Add 240 V Advantium, probably will buy during Presidents Day sale.

We've had a lot of GE appliances growing up and had very good luck. I like our GE stuff even though it's not popular here, and I have a relative that works there so I can buy through the friends and family store with great prices. I suppose eventually we'll get a lemon and rethink, but for now it's so much better than what was here we're very happy.

Here's my eclectic mix:

GE profile bottom freezer fridge(bought it used-it is the best fridge I have ever owned because the freezer is on the bottom where it belongs !!! Great design because not a lot of space is wasted on the doors.
Miele Crystal DW(replaced a GE potscrubber)
KA under counter fridge(not a dedicated beverage/wine fridge ) I use it for food. Very handy.
Magic Chef 1980's 30" gas range(bought used) and still going strong. I can't decide on a new range...and I can't vent to the outside.

Dodge59, exactly what motor did you use for your vent?

I have had all of the following for one yr except the fridge:
KA CD SxS --love it--4 yrs no problems, v. quiet
Bosch 500 induction cooktop -- love it
Bosch 500 single wall oven -- works well
Bosch 800 dishwasher -- would recommend
Old Kenmore v. small microwave on counter -- built like a tank -- plan to keep it till it dies.
Vent hood -- to be determined

I like this thread! A lot of times we don't hear about appliances unless they are horrible or phenomenal so this a good way to see other experiences.

We have replaced all our appliances since we bought our house almost 11 years ago. We now have:

- Jenn-Air dual-fuel slide-in downdraft range. We had no choice as it was one of only two dual-fuel ranges that would work with the existing set-up. It is now 10 years old and for the most part we're happy with it. The downdraft is just OK, not great and the convection oven is quite loud. But it cooks great and we've had no problems with it.

- Jenn-Air french door refrigerator. Probably 6 years old or so. No problems at all and we love it.

- Jenn-Air dishwasher. No problems at all. A couple months ago I would have said it was a little louder than I liked but we cleaned it out (finding several tea bags and who knows what else) and it's been super quite since. About 5 years old probably.

The future:

Hopefully our appliances will continue to serve us well for many years to come, however we are planning for the future. We are redoing our cabinets and we are installing an overhead vent hood (Kobe insert) so that when it comes to buy a new range we actually have options. And if I were picking a new range today it would probably be a Wolf dual-fuel.
