I totally agree with sheila's advice on salicyclic acid - it's a beta-hydroxy acid that's a bit kinder on your skin than the BHA's. it's also the active ingredient in asprin, and a lot of us crunchy-granola types use regular old dollar store, unbuffered asprin as a mask - a few drops of water, and they dissolve into a paste that can be used as a scrub. the over-the-counter shampoo for psoriasis is the strongest concentration of the stuff you can get - stronger than anything short of a medical peel, actually. if your skin is sensitive, I suggest you get your 'fruit acids' from the source - payaya, mango, even strawberries have enough of the enzyme to soften up the dead layer of skin - and I'm taking an educated guess that your pores are literally 'skinned over' and an aestetician would steam you, apply a mild peel, and then 'pop' the cap on each pore with a lancet before extracting the blackhead. steam and mild fruit acids may well be your best bet... the other end of that is that all of this is mildly to moderately irritating, and you will need to calm your skin back down afterwards - cucumber slices are the 'organic' method (use a veggie peeler to get nice, soft, moldable strips) but there are also cleansers and moisturizers especially for sensitive skin out there.

This may be my answer to dark spots (aka, age spots) on the backs of my hands. I've tried so many creams over the years I could have bought a couple of laser machines with the $$ I spent. I've heard of Hand Spa but cannot find a salon that has one. I think that may be laser, but I'm not sure.

DD has been following the regimen on the acne.org site for nearly a month. The CSR 2.5% benzoyl peroxide has really helped her mild acne, and she hardly experienced any irritation, just a lot of dryness at first. We liked the stuff so much I ordered another six tubes to cut down on S/H costs. I thought we would try the CSR before investing in the much pricier ProActiv package. There is also a section on the site where people can rate various products such as moisturizers. Apparently, different people absorb moisturizers differently, and some cause some folks to break out but not others. I also tried some of the suggested products like the Cetaphil cleanser for gentle skin. It made me realize that the harsher oil stripping products I had used for so many years actually made my skin oilier as it tried to compensate.

Teixeira also has a beeswax/mineral oil combo, that is way better than mineral oil alone. Mineral oil alone, dissipates quickly. Contact with any cleaning agent, removes the oil, as does simple contact with silicon feet on a trivet. The beeswax/oil paste, on the other hand, lasts for many, many months. The counters don’t look wet after application, like with the oil, but rather smooth and dark.
