Warm alcoholic drinks with no coffee

I'm looking for ideas of warm alcoholic drinks not made with coffee. Any ideas?

Hot Buttered Rum

1 Lemon Twist
1 Stick of Cinnamon
1 Clove
Boiling Cider
2 oz. Rum*
Pat of Butter**

In a mug or pewter tankard, add spices and rum. Fill with cider & float Butter in top.
Notes from Marlen:
There are versions out there using vanilla ice cream but I prefer it this way.
*I prefer dark rum but either will do
**NEVER margarine!!

This one is good and easy to make in a crockpot!

Mulled Wine

2 bottles dry red wine, like Cabernet Sauvignon
1 cup light corn syrup
1 cup water
1 square (8 inches) double-thickness cheesecloth
Peel of 1 orange
1 cinnamon stick, broken into halves
8 whole cloves
1 whole nutmeg
Orange slices, optional

Combine wine, corn syrup, and water in slow cooker. Rinse cheesecloth; squeeze out water. Wrap orange peel, cinnamon stick halves, cloves, and nutmeg in cheesecloth. Tie securely with cotton string or strip of cheesecloth. Add to slow cooker. Cover and cook on HIGH 2 to 2.5 hours. Discard spice bag; ladle into glasses. Garnish with orange slices, if desired.

cinnamon tea with Hot Damn(I believe it is a cinnamon snopts) or you could also make the tea and put tequilla in it.

Fun comments -- thanks! I think I have "found" space in my peninsula for a microwave. Any votes for a particular type? 24" cabinets in peninsula. lalitha: gonna get an oven. Thanks for asking! Right now ogling a Bosch oven that has dehydrator function. Honestly have no idea what I am doing! davidro1, glad to hear you enjoy hard core commoner coffee. Even though it really isn't anymore (it's seattle's best). Im a functional coffee snob. Used to work in the small-batch specialty coffee industry in SF area, then was spoiled in Seattle. But if I am in need, McD or Dunkin Donuts will be just fine, thank you- so long as the milk is warm, not scalded.

It was fun reading all of this, especially since it goes back to '06. That first post of Lars with the cherry cream soda...yummmy. I only consume coffee if it's ice cream, Kahlua or some other dessert. I like tea, black, green, but not any spiced teas. Really dislike mint too. Mostly I drink flavored unsweetened seltzer, iced tea or lemonade. Occasionally I'll have a fruit soda, but I find them too sweet these days so I mix them with my seltzer. Alcohol? Not really. Don't like wine as a rule. I can deal with a little champagne or Asti. Will drink vodka, that Kahlua making it a Black Russian. Smiles. I can go several years or more without having any alcohol. Last year I turned my current [at the time] vodka into vanilla. This fall an old friend from high school came to visit and brought a bottle of vodka. I had 2 light Cape Cods and when he left I turned the Svedka into vanilla. LOL. In winter in the evening we either have hot tea or hot cocoa often. I do love hot chocolate made with cocoa or even a nice chocolate bar.

I love hot buttered rum. This is a basic recipe from Emeril: Ingredients * 1 stick unsalted butter, softened * 2 cups light brown sugar * 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon * 1/2 teaspoon grated nutmeg * Pinch ground cloves * Pinch salt * Bottle dark rum * Boiling water Directions In a bowl, cream together the butter, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt. Refrigerate until almost firm. Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the butter mixture into 12 small mugs. Pour about 3 ounces of rum into each mug (filling about halfway). Top with boiling water (to fill the remaining half), stir well, and serve immediately. Mulled wine is also a good warming drink. This recipe looks right from About.com. I'd use whole allspice rather than ginger. When winter weather swirls in, nothing could be cozier than a toasty mug of mulled wine. Mulled wine, the vineÃ¢ÂÂs version of a classic hot toddy, is a traditional holiday treat in many Old World countries. Mulled wines have been warming people for centuries, they are wines that have been sweetened, spiced and slightly heated - offering a delightful alternative to traditional coffees, ciders and toddyÃ¢ÂÂs at holiday gatherings or just on a cold winter's night. Prep Time: 5 minutes Cook Time: 25 minutes Total Time: 30 minutes Ingredients: * One bottle (750 mL) of red wine (suggestions: Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Merlot) * One peeled and sliced orange (keep peel to add zest to taste into cooking pot) * 1/4 cup of brandy * 8-10 cloves * 2/3 cup honey or sugar * 3 cinnamon sticks * 1 tsp fresh or 2 tsp ground ginger (allspice can be substituted) * Serves 4-6 Preparation: To make the perfect cup of mulled wine, combine all ingredients in either a large pot or a slow cooker. Gently warm the ingredients on low to medium heat (avoid boiling), for 20-25 minutes. Stir occasionally to make sure that the honey or sugar has completely dissolved. When the wine is steaming and the ingredients have been well blended it is ready to serve. Ladle the mulled wine into mugs (leave seasonings behind) and enjoy! my two favorites are a Peppermint patty, which is just hot chocolate and peppermint schnapps with a candycane stuck in, whipped cream and shaved chocolate on top, and a version of hot buttered rum thusly made:
Mix in a bowl 1 stick butter, 1 cup dark bown sugar, 1t each nutmeg, cardamom and ground cloves, 1.5t cinnamon. Mix well and refrigerate. Boil a mug of water and pour off enough to add a tablespoon of the butter mix and a tot of good rum.
The rum makes a lot of difference, so don't use the cheap stuff.

Hot toddy....
scant teaspoon sugar in a double old fashioned glass, dash of Angastora bitters ( optional) generous wedge of lemon, cinnamon stick, shot of bourbon and fill with hot water.
Squeeze the lemon if you wish.
There is also tom and Jerry....but I don't know how to make them......just know eggs, sugar milk and booze of some sort! LOL!

Here's a couple more...

Eggnog Latte

1 tablespoon General Foods International Coffees, any flavor
1/2 cup boiling water
1/2 cup eggnog
Ground nutmeg (optional)

Place instant coffee in cup or mug. Slowly pour boiling water over coffee while stirring. Stir in eggnog, heated until hot. Sprinkle with nutmeg. Serve at once. Makes 1 serving.

Hot Buttered Cow
1 lb Brown sugar
1/4 lb Soft butter
1/2 ts Vanilla
1/2 ts Cinnamon
1/4 ts Nutmeg
1/4 ts Cloves
1/4 ts Mace
1/4 ts Allspice
1 pinch Salt
Optional: for each serving add to mug: 1 1/2 ounces dark rum and 1/2 ounce gold or white rum

Beat sugar and butter together until thoroughly creamed and fluffy. Beat in vanilla and spices. Chill.
For each cup to be served, place 1+1/2 teaspoons batter in a preheated mug (add rum if desired) Stir well. Fill with hot milk and serve.
