Anyone have a special alcoholic holiday cocktail (martini, mixed drink, punch etc) that is festive either in taste or in color?

Thanks!

Sue

I think you are looking for the word "trivia". ;-) Google something like "Santa, trivia, games". Substitute "Christmas, reindeer, snowman, etc." in place of "Santa" and I suspect you will get more hits. Here is a quick one I found. Here is a link that might be useful: Christmas Trivia

Melody, Have you ever been to WildWood before?? The hotels off the beach are usually very reasonable. If your kids are young, shoot for staying in either "North WildWood" or "WildWood Crest". Downtown Wildwood is more of a "party" area and can get rowdie (In a Mardi Gras kinda way) I can highly recommend a place in North WildWood called "The Acropolis". Its located at 3rd and JFK and there is a bandstand closeby so you can sit out at night and listen to music. If you want to stay in the "Crest" I can recommend a place called "Madrid". My family stays in a place called "The Summer Sands" and they like it a lot. We used to go to WildWood every summer, but we are not big on the bar scene. A few years ago we started going to Cape May because its more quiet and relaxing, It all depends on your preferance. I hope you and your family have a great time!! Cheers! En route home from the library, after my comment here last Friday ... there was a "RIDE" check, with a couple of cop cars with lights flashing at a road junction, and we all had to roll down the window to let one of the cops get a sniff of our breath. If one blows too heavy on the breathalyzer - give up keys, right there ... walk home. Didn't envy the cops their task, on that snowy, rather blowy, night ... ... but, 10 mi.from town, with no phone nearby to call a cab (expensive!) ... it'd be a long walk home! And the fine for drinking and driving is massive! ole joyfuelled ... and fuelled by just gas in the car, that night

LOL You're right, Maire_Cate. I have almost no closets in this house, no built-ins other than a couple of bookcases, and a severe shortage of storage. So what do I have? An overflowing liquor cabinet and a filled wine rack. The reason is that I like the idea of having a drink with friends, but it doesn't happen often. And I think drinking alone is no fun. I do come up with a special drink each year for my family at the holidays, but all that experimenting requires more ingredients than I'll use in the end result. As for the wine, I love searching for bargains in decent wine, but I would never open a bottle just for me. Wine doesn't keep well. So it sits there on the rack until I have guests or until (like this weekend) I bring a bottle to a party. I think another factor is that my parents always had a well-stocked liquor cabinet. They didn't drink wine, but they had lots of close friends, couples who would stop in for an evening. My dad would make Manhattans, or Tom Collinses, or serve beer, depending on the season. No one ever got drunk; it's just that the cocktail hour was a tradition in our circles in New York. My in-laws in CT did the same. But although it was what we grew up with, my DH and I didn't drink at all for about 20 years when our children were growing up. No time to "relax with a drink" with three kids in the house. I didn't learn to like good wine until about ten years ago.

Apple juice with cinnamon schnapps is a very good holiday drink. And of course there's always eggnog. Here are two recipes that are very good. Christmas Punch and Hot Buttered Rum.

Christmas Punch

1/2 cup white sugar
2 cups orange juice
2/3 cup lemon juice
1 (4 ounce) jar maraschino cherries, with juice
1 fluid ounce triple sec liqueur
1 (750 milliliter) bottle light rum
1 orange, sliced into rounds
1 lemon, sliced into rounds
1 (8 ounce) can pineapple chunks
1 liter carbonated water

Directions
1 In a punch bowl combine sugar, orange and lemon juice, stirring until sugar dissolves. Add cherries, triple sec, light rum, orange slices, lemon slices, and pineapple chunks. Set for 1-2 hours to allow flavors to blend.
2 Add carbonated water and ice just before serving.

Hot Buttered Rum

Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 (16 ounce) package confectioners' sugar, sifted
1 pound light brown sugar, packed
1 quart vanilla ice cream, softened

Directions
1 In a large bowl cream the butter and the sugars together until smooth. Add the softened ice cream and mix until a creamy consistency is obtained. Transfer this to a freezer container with a tight fitting lid. Place in the freezer for up to 1 month.
2 To Serve: Place a heaping 2 tablespoons of the frozen mix in a highball glass or coffee mug. Add 1 to 2 tablespoons dark rum. Pour over the mix 6 ounces of boiling water and stir until the mixture is melted. Sprinkle top with cinnamon or nutmeg and serve forth!

Vodka as desired....the Berry favored is supposed to be good in this..we just added the cheap stuff and it still was very good.
