X- Post. How often do you clean your Vent-a-Hood?
Comments (2)We grill under the hood quite a bit so the cleaning is a bit more often, about once a month I'd say. Yeah it's hard to put off the fun sometimes. But a couple of things I've picked up on. 409 works great. Remove the sheild under the blower housing and spray some into the squirrel cage; jog the motor, spray generously, turn off motor. The idea being to coat the wheels but not have the 409 just fly off.Be carefull though because it may drip onto the cooktop. I put some newspaper down first. Let it sit, maybe repeat. Then remove the housing but again be carefull as the 409 is sitting on the bottom now. Wipe it out with paper towels or into the dishwasher if you like. Remove the wheels if gunked up to badly and if your lucky they will clean off real nice with HOT water spray. I don't know why but my wheels used to be a PIA to clean but now they are easy. I use the 409 on the inside of the hood to. The stuff works good for me. Oh, a whole mess of paper towels. It's a bit of a proceedure that may not be for you but with repeated applications seems to go faster. I like my stuff clean, don't like the smell of grease in there, and expect some effort will be needed. Being double jointed seems to mke it all easier under the hood..)...See MoreWhat brand is your hood insert and do you like it?
Comments (1)I have the Zephyr Monsoon II with the LED lights on it. It has 6 speeds, though speed #6 is called "Burst" mode and will only run on that high speed for about 5 minutes before going back to speed 5. We mostly use it on speed-3, it is fairly quiet on that speed, but honestly this is my first hood. We used to have a OTA microwave with the hood built it, so that is all I have to compare it too. So far with it over our 36" BS rangetop with 6 burners we love it and it does all I need. I have only had to use speed-6 one time when I was using a griddle and forgot I had it on to high and it started to smoke. In the past we would set off the smoke alarm in our kitchen area with the OTA micro-wave one, we have yet to do that with this hood, as expected. Phil...See MoreDo you like your glass range hood?

Comments (8)The installation instructions that came with our vent had the following instructions: COLD WEATHER installations should have an additional backdraft damper installed to minimize backward cold air flow and a non-metallic thermal break to minimize conduction of outside temperatures as part of the ductwork. The damper should be on the cold air side of the thermal break. The break should be as close as possible to where the ducting enters the heated portion of the house. I made sure the installer put both the additional damper on the outside and the thermal break. We do not have a cold draft from the vent....See Morebeachpea3
