ISO Kahlua recipe

I used to make Kahlua years ago and want to make some again. The recipe I had (and liked) called for putting the vanilla bean into the vodka and letting it set for a couple weeks and then add the "cooked" coffee, sugar and water. Does anyone have this recipe? All I can find anywhere are the quicker versions or ones where you make it all at once and then let sit. TIA!

here's one we make using espresso. regular coffee didn't seem strong enough. maybe this is what you are looking for?

1 cup espresso coffee
1 cup sugar
2 cups vodka (80-100 proof)
1/2 vanilla bean split lengthwise

Brew a fresh pot of espresso (or a very strong coffee). Add sugar, make certain it is all dissolved and let cool. Once cooled, add the vanilla beab and the vodka. Transfer to a bottle (we use a dark glass bottle). (For the first week or so, we shook the bottle to make certain all the sugar was completely dissolved) You can let it sit anywhere between two to four weeks. When it's done, remove the bean and strain it into a clean, new bottle.

I have one going now. it's keeping my lemoncello company. At thanksgiving, i'll make an italian cream liquer that will be served on christmas.

The only place you are going to ge a Kahluha recipe is from Pernod Ricard if you contact them, and I highly doubt if they are going to share their recipe and technique.

Would you believe I still haven't tried that recipe? It was on my "probable" list for Christmas but after Sue's comments it's now at the top of the "definite" list. Can't wait to try them.... and Hubby just bought a large container of cinnamon at Costco. Guess I'm going to have to make a lot of cookies. :-) Jen

okay, I dug through my library of cookbooks and found both the 1963 lst printing of Joys of Jello and an anniversary book. There are several choices. One is jello,& pudding, cooked together and then when cooled you added Dream Whip, That picture looks pretty fluffy. But I used to just make jello, & add real whip cream. Thats a Bavarian. but there is also layered cheesecake, with graham crackers, cream cheese, light cream. It also helps if we know when this started because these recipes were popular at certain times. There was a product called 123 jello I think that came out fluffy because it had whipped topping or something in it. So all of those recipes came out pastel and fluffy. The carnation milk --do you know if it was condensed milk or evaporated? I'll give you the recipe as soon as you guess which it was or have more clues. Maybe there are family cookbooks, or you could remember what the cookbook looked like. the original was spiral bound with a red wineglass of jello on the cover.

How about rum balls made with oreo cookies (found at Chowhound): Midnight Rum Balls 1 small package (8.5 oz.) Oreo cookies 1/2 cup confectioner's sugar 1 cup finely chopped nuts (optional - I leave 'em out) 3 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder (sweetened cocoa is fine, too) 2 Tbsp corn syrup 1/3 cup rum (don't use more!) granulated sugar Put whole cookies in food processor and whiz until finely crushed. In medium bowl, combine crumbs, powdered sugar, nuts, and cocoa. Blend in corn syrup and rum. Wet hands and shape mixture into one-inch balls; roll in granulated sugar. Store covered, in a cool place. (Rum balls are better after they have "mellowed" for a day or two.) Variation: Prepare marinated cherries: soak a jar of sour cherries in rum or kirsch for a week or two. When ready to use, drain cherries well, then pat dry. Wrap mixture around a cherry and roll in sugar as above. I've also made these cookies with a different alcohol - Chambord (black raspberry liqueur) is really nice. I'll bet an orange liqueur would be good, too.

It was that or send it to ”Clinton.” 🤔 Seriously, one email address I found was clinton@veranda.com I have very little anticipation of success but I also had nothing to lose. Sherry, I had forgotten that Veranda was part of SL. A lot of their old recipes are at myrecipes.com. I need to look there. This thread is reminding me of lost recipes. DH and I had dinner at an old hotel in Heidelberg Germany. I had read in the guide book not to miss their cream of escargot soup. I ordered it and it lived up to its reputation. When we got back home, I wrote the hotel and asked for the recipe. To my surprise, they sent it. I put it away someplace very safe. That recipe has never been seen since. I was too embarrassed to write and ask for it again.

Would you share your Italian Cream liquer recipe? That sounds wonderful too.

Leaveswave, KahlÃºa is a brand name for a coffee liquer. It has its own recipe that the producers are not going to share.

There are many other coffee liquers out there for sale, most notably Tia Maria and Pahsa, and also many, many other "off" brands available.

You may be able to make something with a coffee recipe, but it is NOT KahlÃºa and won't taste anything like it.

And BTW you can't make Bailey's either, for the same reason, although you can make any number of types and tastes of Irish cream liquer, each having their own unique taste.

bud_wi: Do you also feel the need to lecture people who ask for a Kleenex or Q-Tip instead of a facial tissue or cotton swab? Using a brand name in this context is common and accepted in colloquial English, and there's no need to be a dick about it.
