Okay...so I am glad you asked. I am going to suggest that you do not buy the Miele. I have the 36" in my home and it will be leaving shortly. It is a very long story but I will tell you that the outer glass is very breakable on the 1134 model. Two have already broken -one in transit to my home and one at my home. The second one was the fault of my contractor but to have TWO break (SHATTER) it should make you think twice. I also know that Miele has had many issues with this glass and will probably be changing the door shortly. Having said all that --the range is GORGEOUS and I am very sad to see it go. I have decided to just go with a dependable Viking. The Dacor is very pretty but I am not sure if they have worked out the kinks with their ovens? I hope this helps.

In July 2005 we installed a Dacor Epicure cooktop, remote blower and downdraft and Epicure double wall ovens. They get a lot of use since both of us love to cook. The cooktop has been nearly trouble free- we had one minor issue. One ignitor began clicking after 6 months. I called Dacor and they said they had recently improved the ignitors and sent 6 brand new ones to my local authorized repair who installed them at no cost to me. The Epicure oven seemed to have excessive condensation between the glass on the lower oven door. I called Dacor and they sent the same authorized tech who replaced the glass pack and the insulation around it. While some mist like condensation is considered normal it should dissipate during cooking. The condensation on my oven was larger drops of moisture. Changing the glass and insulation didn't correct the problem. I called Dacor and spoke with a very knowledgeable customer service rep. She told me that this has happened to others with the same oven. I thought she'd offer to replace the door itself. I was stunned when she offered to either buy back my 10 month old double wall oven for my purchase price - or - replace them with Dacor's new model - the Dacor Discovery wall ovens which were significantly more expensive than my model. I don't remember the exact price difference but it was close to $2000. And it came with a new one year warranty. The Dacor rep told me that with earlier customers they had simply replaced the ovens with the same model and sometimes that did the trick but not always. So they decided it was easier to buy back the old or replace with the newer model. I went with the new model. I did have an issue with the meat probe not beeping when the meat hit the desired temperature. I was one of the first customers to report this problem to Dacor. They said they'd have their engineers work on new programming to correct it. It took about 6 months until they developed a new control panel which was installed without cost to me. All of this is something I would expect a reputable company to do. But we all know that this is the type of thing that seems to rarely occur. I can't speak for the other posters here who had difficulty with their Dacor purchases. Maybe I was just lucky - I don't know but I have been very pleased with their customer service. As for your appliance store standing behind the product - I wouldn't rely on that too much. Unless they have their own repair techs they're probably just going to call Dacor. The manufacturer only gives a one year warranty and it's doubtful if an appliance store is going to absorb the cost if your appliance needs repairs after the warranty. The cost to repair these new electronic models is high.

To follow up on the sequence of events since my original post . . . Costco agreed to replace the second NXR range (including the cost of the switch out). Even though this saga does not end well, Costco has a customer for life because they went out of their way to make things right with a range that was nothing but wrong. The third range arrived last week. The delivery guy was in the process of packing up the range with the chipped enamel as my contractor installed the new range. I am so glad he was able to be here at that exact time, because once it was all hooked up, all 4 ignitors would not stop clicking, even when the knobs were in the OFF position. We turned it on and off several times, unhooked and hooked back up the gas, did what the troubleshooting manual suggested, and tried calling DURO but could not get them on the phone bc of the time difference. After exhausting all of our ideas on how to remedy the ignitor situation, I threw up my hands and refused the range. The second range did not not present with this issue, and my contractor had not ever dealt with this issue on any installs before, so I did not feel confident in keeping the range. Luckily, the delivery guy was still here, so he packed up the third NXR and took it off with the second one. I came to the conclusion that even though we wanted the NXR to work out so badly, it was not meant to be for us. 0 for 3 is a strike out. Costco offerred to ship and install a fourth NXR, and we are grateful for their generosity, but refused and got a refund. We promptly purchased a GE Cafe gas range. It arrived quickly, installed easily, and is working perfectly so far. Athough it was 1K more and is not nearly as sharp looking as the NXR, in the end, I think it worth our peace of mind to go with something more ubiquitous. To all those NXR owners out there who have nothing but praise to heap on your range, I am envious. I really wish I could have been among your ranks.

LG LCE30845 induction cooktop (since 2008). It replaced a Jenn-Air induction cooktop that we purchased in 1999, so we are almost a third of the way into our second decade of induction cooking. Pros: o Exceptionally skinny under the countertop, even slimmer than our former Jenn-Air; we keep all of our spoons, spatulas, etc. in a drawer immediately under the cooktop. o Relatively low current draw: rated at 32 amps, which gives an extra margin of safety for our 40 amp wiring. o Relatively quiet, and the cooling fan vent is above the counter and does not vent into the space below the counter. o Inexpensive (relative to the "my cooktop can whip "your cooktop" bragging rights brands) and inobtrusive (no "styling" gimcracks to call attention to itself). o True bridge burner: a third element activates between two round elements to make a continuous large oblong element for a griddle long enough to cook bacon without bending the slices. o More than ample power for any task we ever have thrown at it. Cons: o Cooling fan on/off is related to whether an element is on or off, not according to the actual temperature (that is, it is not thermostat-controlled). So far, this design decision has had no adverse impact. o Liquid spills onto the touch control ares confuse the cooktop's logic, requiring a power off/on cycle. o Steps between power settings on the burners seem to fall short of full linearity: that is, the step between, say, the 3 setting and the 3-1/2 setting seems to be a slightly larger increment than the step between the 3-1/2 setting and the 4 setting. (But that is a difficult matter to test objectively.) o It's an LG, which means that if the cooktop ever needs to be serviced, Lord help us; LG customer service is nonexistent. (We have been lucky so far.) BOSCH convection wall oven (circa 2000 vintage) mounted under-counter in a standard counter cabinet. Pros: o Short vertical dimension allows us to have a shallow drawer underneath the oven for spare oven racks, cookie sheets, etc. o Analogue controls. Personal preference: we prefer visually assessing settings from the position of dial pointers to reading digital settings and we prefer turning dials to fingering touch-pads. o Concealed bottom element under the oven floor so inside-oven drips land on easy-to-clean floor instead of on or under the heating element. Cons: o None.
