I am willing to trade for anything that grows in South Florida (Zone 10b) Description: The white flesh of the ripe cherimoya is sweet, juicy and very fragrant. It is most commonly eaten out of-hand or scooped with a spoon from the cut open fruit. In Mexico, sometimes people add a few drops of lime juice. Occasionally it is seeded and added to fruit salads or used for making sherbet or ice cream. Colombians strain out the juice, add a slice of lemon and dilute with ice-water to make a refreshing soft drink. In Jamaica, the dried flowers have been used as flavoring for snuff. Alcohol: . The fruit is fermented to produce an alcoholic beverage. Poison: The seeds are crushed and used as insecticide. Blindness can result from the juice of the crushed seeds coming in contact with the eyes. The seeds contain several alkaloids: caffeine, ( + )-reticuline, (-)-anonaine, liriodenine, and lanuginosine. Human ingestion of 0.15 g of the dark-yellow resin isolated from the seeds produces symptoms resembling the effects of atropine. . Mixed with grease, powdered seeds are used to kill lice. The twigs possess the same alkaloids as the seeds plus michelalbine. 8 alkaloids have been reported in the leaves: ( + )-isoboldine, (-)-stepholidine, ( + )-corytuberine, ( + ) nornantenine, ( + )-reticuline, (-)-anonaine, liriodenine, and lanuginosine. Medicine: In Mexico, rural people toast, peel and pulverize 1 or 2 seeds and take the powder with water or milk as a potent emetic and cathartic. Mixed with grease, the powder is applied on parasitic skin disorders. A decoction of the skin of the fruit is taken to relieve pneumonia.

Thanks Sarah. Mario suffered soooooooo much! The smell from his neck wounds honestly was nauseating. I think he must have been injured longer than just the two days to have such a massive infection. But, the lady did care enough to find him and bring him in. As always there was no charge for a Good Sam doing good things. I thought maybe it would be better to just end his suffering but ... then again ... he's made it this far ... he deserves a chance to live. He made it through the surgery and rallied. His last hurrah. :-( I wasn't going to post this because it is ~VERY~ sad but ... sadly it is a reality too. Maybe Mario will help people think before they let their kitties roam around? Maybe not. Melly, rec.food.preserving's FAQ has this about tea jelly and there are a couple of threads as follow-up. A search on rec.food.preserving will bring them up. It appears the people who tried it weren't impressed, but I'm wondering if the Earl Grey tea jelly uses actual Earl Grey tea or maybe oil of bergamot to enhance the taste. "from Michael Teifel : I made a half litre Earl Grey tea 4 times stronger than normal. And I simply added 500 grams of a commercially available sugar/pectin mixture and followed the instructions for making jelly out of juices. It tastes real good, nearly the same taste of the jelly from the mail order tea shop I tasted before. The next time I will reduce the amount of sugar so that the tea flavour will be stronger. for a second batch: I made 250 ml of green gunpowder tea with mint flavour (4 times stronger, it means 4 times more tea, not 4 times longer brewing). Then I added 150 grams of a 1:2 mixture of the sugar/pectin box (1:2 means that you have more pectin and less sugar in the mixture, so the jelly results in more fruity flavour) and added a few pine nuts. (This tea is my favourite, in Tunisia it is very common drink: chinese green tea with mint and pine nuts.) Then I followed the instructions, and it gave a very good tea jelly with a fresh flavour of mint! Add 1 TB of lemon juice for each liter." Carol P.S. I haven't tried the packets but I've had the green tea in the bottle. It was a little too sweet for me but you can probably adjust that with the packet...just not use as much. Great idea for the condiment wallet. And I call it a "glove box" too.....is there another name? I guess it should be called the "map,insurance verification,salt packets,pen and owner's manual box". LOLOL
